John Williams returns to Berlin for three concerts, June 5-7 2025
Martinland replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I hope you will be too! We are already trying... (@GlastoEls knows) ...wait, Caleb Y.? Who conducted Raiders in Dublin for all three of us and many other excited visitors last Halloween? đŸ˜® Amazing. Thanks for that spot-on performance, Mr. Young, especially the nice additional intermission piece from Skull (didn't know about that) and the end credits rendition - more rousing in tempo and spirit than the original LSO film version, I felt. -
...not to mention the irritating fact that he seems to have misplaced his trademark glasses for quite some time now.

BREAKING: "John Williams - The Milan Concert" 2CD + DVD
Martinland replied to BB-8's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Fixed. -
Actually yes, after I saw that Variety article ... they could have honoured, for one last time before it's over, traditional Hollywood craftsmanship at the very least, and the oldest ever nominated personality. (if that is true?) I tried to forget about the hype around freshness, youth, and Oscar sweepers to believe in it... We even made it a point to stay up late and watch the whole thing, something I haven't done since over 30 years (Schindler year!) and probably never will ever again. I adored the Japanese folk, honestly and quite sympathetically accepting a trophy for Godzilla and the surprising but well-deserved nod to Miyazaki. (a Williams situation right there) ... and we even watched these two fine movies with our daughter at the earliest screenings possible here in Austria.

Still celebrating w/ listening to the 20-CD box and wine; maybe a tad too much of the latter as I briefly thought I read: "This will look great on one's heels"

Happy Birthday JWFAN! I too finally joined in anticipation of Vienna (that's what we thought) back in 2018, similar to @BB-8 with The Force Awakens. I thought I submitted my concert report from London 1996 to this site, maybe some day I'll find out which one of the ones mentioned above it really was. And like @Thor my own site is apparently the same age, amazing. :-D Finally I concur with @GlastoEls about finding and meeting friends during these amazing recent years... Cheers all around! /me raises glass of red wine.

The Most Williams like Score by Another Composer?
Martinland replied to GerateWohl's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
What about Frédéric Talgorn? He is amazingly close. There are instances when he is clearly sounding like Williams, not Broughton or McNeely. Especially without copying, like the latter; and Broughton, at least to my ears, has his own style. I only know "The Race" by Mike Verta and that's a detailed exercise in emulating Williams... -

If you wish for that I might do this ... heavy hand luggage though. I very much enjoyed meeting (both of) you in London, finally. -
Star Wars Star Wars Trilogy: The Original Soundtrack Anthology turns 30!
Martinland replied to Tallguy's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Very nice thread, this! <3 In addition to the Anthology and Close Encounters ads and various German ones I also have this in my Williams binder that I have been maintaining for more than 30 years now and that some of you saw when you added one of the last pages with all your autographs on the Milano programme (<3): -

The Emporium Strikes Back! -
Mine arrived just two hours ago ... a day early! Will open it in 24 days then... ...and usually I put CDs from such sleeves like the SW:SE and JP2 into a separate jewel case, but not in this ... case: Too many of them and it defeats the purpose of this nice box set. I also think these are manufactured differently (by the preview looks of it), to allow for easy access (e.g. a bit more space in the sleeve)? Plus: Tiny scratches that the error correction of my player won't even need to or will handle correctly shouldn't even build up that fast in my remaining lifetime... ...I am much more relaxed about that now. Anyways ... I have to skip this thread for the next three and a half weeks, I guess. Seeyalater!
