Been so long since I listened to this last I honestly can't remember anything about it.
Couple of tracks in, very Barry and Horner-esque. Nice theme.

Fine, ok. But he could, I don't know, take a vacation or something? Hard boil four eggs?

I purchased Malala, didn't had time to listen to it.
The two Marigold, even if I suspect it's music for very light movies (hehe)... are on my wishlist.
I think Newman has developped an expertise in oriental music!
I think the two MARIGOLD scores are gorgeous. Colourful, vibrant, serene, evocative stuff with some nice solos. The sort of scores you can imagine Newman really enjoyed working on, with all the exotic instruments and all. One of my favourite cues...

I love the way he makes atmospheric "high class" music.
He's not a kid playing with a computer, I mean he really compose.
You're right. I even enjoyed that little period after AMERICAN BEAUTY where he did pretty much nothing but low-key, atmos-driven scores for a few years (THE SALTON SEA, ERIN BROKOVICH, PAY IT FORWARD, WHITE OLEANDER). He's the guy you want for these sort of projects. One of the few who actually excels at it.

I've only heard SUCCESSION and DON'T LOOK UP and they're ok. Sounds like he has more orchestral chops than Göransson so that's promising at least.
Also... he's doing THE LION KING sequel??? Crikey he is branching out.

Hmm. I'll give him a chance. I guess he hasn't really scored anything like this before so I'm ready to be surprised.

Alright, Chris, that's enough... just make the damn movie already.

I don't know what it is about.
Described as a love story set in and around a beautiful old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s. [IMDB]
There's also John Madden's Operation Mincemeat and Marc Forster's White Bird: A Wonder Story upcoming on Newman's roster, both of which are set during World War II.

Channing Tatum's DOG drops this week but I can't find any news of a planned CD/digital release of Newman's score...?
By the sounds of this interview with co-director Reid Carolin there are a number of songs in the soundtrack and Newman's score plays a purely incidental role. Perhaps there isn't enough to warrant a release?

Liking The Postman or not didn't stop JNH from writing a great score, one of my favorites in the 1990s for me.
Yep. Expansion please!

I may talking out of my ass, but i think these two fell out over 'The Postman', which JNH even poo-poohed in an interview as a lousy movie.
Shame if true even if it doesn't sound like something James Newton Howard would do. He's scored some absolute stinkers in his career but I've never heard/read him speak degradingly of a project.
In any case, I'd love to hear another JNH Western, hopefully something with a little more 'oomph' than News Of The World (though I do like that one).

I've recently been back to my parents house where the vast majority of my CD's are kept. While most of them are already ripped to my computer, sorting through it all has inspired me to revisit some long forgotten favourites.
I've decided to embark on a James Horner journey... but the lesser known stuff. We're beginning with...
I've liked the songs since I was little when I watched it. Can't remember much from the score but I'm really liking it so far.
EDIT:
I was waiting for tonnes of typical 'Spot The Movie' Hornerisms (and they are there), but I wasn't expecting some [pre]-references to the sinking sequences in Titanic. Haha. Quite liked that, to be honest.
Anyway, this is great. Lovely main theme, and some great soaring moments.

I can remember very well the day I first listened to this. I was in my excitable beginnings of film music discovery and while I had gone through all of Horner's famous works at the time, I started eyeing up his lesser known stuff; spotted this on Amazon (or one of the equivalents) and begged my mum to buy it for me. It arrived in the post just before I was setting out to school a couple of days later.... I grabbed my Sony Walkman and set out for the bus. Anyway, I was scolded a few times by teachers that day for sneakily slipping on those headphones.
Ah, memories.

No shit...
I bet you the majority of armchair score fans would believe it is.

I'm not gonna judge too quickly... there's not much in that teaser to make any well-reasoned assessment.
But I'm sure it'll be rubbish.

I've seen that one called out a couple of times. What's so bad about it? It's energetic it's ominous. What?
I don't know, that clumsy horn line at the end. Does not sit well at all.

Happy birthday you brilliant man.

First complete listen in what feels like ages.
It's great, I love it.
A bit late celebrating John's 90th, I admit, but I've been working all week. Now, I have a bottle of unpronounceable Scotch and I'm going for it.
