Episode 3 is just one long cavalcade of fucking idiocy.

Ross was always my top choice, tying with Powell.

I always had high hopes, regardless of the composer, but I guess it's only now that we're hearing the final result, you wish they hadn't pissed around with it. I'm all for giving young new composers a chance to get on the ladder but it seems this was far too much of a prestige project to gamble on inexperience.

Yeah, I can see the merits of this. Williams/Ross' and Holt's contributions are already starkly disparate experiences within the show... alone on the same album would be a wildly inconsistent listen.

My brother just showed me this video he found. What could have been...

EDIT: LOL, posted this over at the main Star Wars sub on reddit:

"It’s too loud for the scene. Focuses too much on Vader and not enough on the shock on Kenobi’s face. They did it better bud."

"I think the score in the show matches the scene and tone better than this."

"sorry mate but i'm not feelin' this."

"There's more to Star Wars scoring than reusing old themes. There's a whole musical galaxy out there - you need to see that."

I'm not saying that I think this "fix" is perfect; it's more like a temp track, and obviously it would have been done differently in the show if Ross or somebody scored it. Either way, I don't understand these people... It's depressing. Thankfully, I've seen a lot of SW fans elsewhere who have been calling out the problems with this show's score.

I'm surprised that this doesn't get mentioned a great deal. This is among some of the best stuff Silvestri has produced in 20 years. What a fantastic and diverse collection of music.

I'm guessing they'll just dump it all when the series has finished its run?

Going by what we've heard so far, I can't imagine there's enough engaging material to make this a multi-volume release.

This is the worst thing star wars has ever done musically. I don’t want to hear any complaints about Ludwig Goransson, Shirley or Giacchino, this is sooo much worse

Ross would have been the perfect main-only composer for this series. Its a shame they wont let him shine.

I don't hate Holt's score, but I certainly feel that it lets the series down by not fully embracing the musical language of the Star Wars saga. I understand that incorporating Williams' themes needs to be done tastefully, and not simply copy-pasted all over the score - however the complete lack of the original themes detracts from so many of those powerful moments in the show.
There were are few (dare I say) good moments of scoring... however, on the whole, I've been finding Holt's score a bit distracting. It sounds rather anonymous and lacks the character of her other scores, which at least have a bit of personality. Tonally, it just doesn't fit with the show. If this was Mandalorian or Boba Fett, this score would have worked well, but it just feels so out of place when RCP-style action music is accompanying scenes of Obi-Wan and these other legacy characters.

I'm also curious to see whether William Ross's wonderful cues will be included in the soundtrack release, these have been the highlight of the score for me. They just make me wish that Ross had scored the entire show...

This quote from The Guardian's review summed it up for me:

"One of the very first scenes shows characters slaving away in the desert, earning a pittance by scraping scraps of meat from a giant, long-dead carcass. This is either a complete coincidence, or someone at Disney+ is a little more self-aware than they should be."
