LSH reacted to Thor in What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Spurred by someone posting about it over on Maintitles. Haven't listened to it a long time, but it's really a favourite. Shearmur not only blends orchestra and electronics, but taps into these gorgeous New Age/Café del Mar/chillout moments that just make the album stand out. Perfectly sequenced and perfect length too. "Taxi Drive" reminds me of the opening of Leftfield's dub techno classic "Release the Pressure".

A really beautiful score that I'd never listened to before. What a shame, I would have start to love JNH sooner.
Anyway better late than never!

This is a short era of Thomas Newman’s career that I absolutely adore. After his 80’s efforts but pre-Shawshank. It’s a great time. Thor will agree, I’m sure.

LSH reacted to TSMefford in The temp track or similarities thread
I've got two confirmed pieces of temp to contribute today. Was looking into some Lemony Snicket stuff (as probably the biggest fan of that score on the forums. ) and found a couple of looks at early scenes / rough cuts with some temp music!
1.) Here's an early version of the introduction to the three kids, complete with alternate lines in the voice over. Temped with Thomas Newman's "Dead Already" from American Beauty.
2.) I was able to cancel out the director's commentary in one of the special features to get a clearer listen to the finale music used during the first test screening of the film. Turns out, it's "Walkaway" from Newman's Meet Joe Black score. Since the clip is so poor, I opted to sync it up to the film myself with dialog and it fits pretty much perfectly. You can definitely feel the influence as the track builds.
Neat. That is all.

I'm currently listening to the albums I wanted to listen last week-end.
Michael Kamen - Band of Brothers, I love this score!

Have a nice musical sunday!

LSH got a reaction from Manakin Skywalker in Signs: Hand of Fate Part 1 or 2
I consider it to be one uninterrupted cue, essentially 'The Finale'.... and always listen to it that way.

A really nice score not like the usual Zimmer score (probably because of Fleming). It really has a nice atmosphere

Textbook example of how to make an action film.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day
This is pretty much the perfect blockbuster movie. It has amazing special effects and stunts (which look great until this day), but it also has memorable characters and a nice script. Edward Furlong delivers one of the best performances by a child actor in an action film. The score isn't something I'd listen outside of the movie, but it works great with the pictures.
Happy 30th birthday!

LSH got a reaction from Once in The Thomas Newman Thread
All of those are superb but, in my opinion, his magnum opus is ANGELS IN AMERICA (2003).
Probably the best mix of his different styles (the dissonant, the 'quirky' rhythmic, and the piercingly beautiful sweeping stuff). The opening titles alone is worth the price. Check it out if you haven't already, I can't recommend it enough.

LSH got a reaction from TheUlyssesian in James Newton Howard's JUNGLE CRUISE (2021)
Film looks dreadful but it is prime material for a good boisterous, exotic - and more importantly - melodic score.
I'm eagerly awaiting.

I have a feeling this film isn’t going to age well.

Yes.
I think it's a massively misunderstood film. Shame it was marketed as a straight-out horror. It's a romance story.

One of Söderqvist's best scores, IMO (perhaps even the best). Haunting, chilly, melancholic - like the film. I actually did the bonus commentary track on his CD (where I interviewed Söderqvist, sound designer Tormod Ringnes and director Marius Holst).

Nah it was reallesed in June 1987 (the 12 in the US).
Williams only wrote SpaceCamp in 1986 and Empire of the Sun, The Witches of Eastwick (+Superman IV) in 1987
Great score from Newman, lots of very fun moment, this has been a while I haven't listened to that one and I clearly missed it.
I although love the cover

Sorry for the tiny cover, this is another rarity. I adore electronic 80s Newman. SUSAN (which was the first time I saw Madonna act) has a remarkable Tangerine Dream feel about it.
And another great one from the same era and style, since I was in the mood for it this morning.

Well I've never enjoyed that score I find the main title quiet boring to be fair, it sounds more like accompagnating music than a true main title. I find the only two really nice things of this album was the first song Everybody Knows and of course the Beatles remix which sounds terrific. Plus it is because of this score that I've stand away for a long time from some older Elfman's masterpieces such as Returns or Scissorshands because JL was one of the few scores I've really listen from that composer at the time with the Alice in Wonderland movies and Avengers: AoU.
What a great masterpiece! I'm so disappointed that Goldsmith didn't write more trilogy because he really made a terrific jobs with this one.
I was wondering if the Varese DE of the trilogy where all complete or if they were some music missing that might lead to a reissue?
