  2. http://intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5282 I’m starting off this thread with a question regarding the Goldsmith material? Did the music track for the film’s sound-mix use the Len Engel's temp-track-- the pre-recorded bits--of Goldsmith scores like ‘Rio Conchos”, “100 Rifles, “Morituri”, and “Stagecoach’ or was it the Lionel Newman-conducted recording of these said excerpts?
  3. My desire to buy complete film-score album releases came in the summer ’87 where I went to the movies for a double-bill-‘Masters of the Universe’ and ‘Monster Squad’. I enjoyed the action music in MOTU and I wanted to buy the album. I finally got it--the first album release by Varese--and I was disappointed that none of the action cues were on it. Since then, I started watching rented VHS tapes where the music was of interest and making notes of the music cues (I would give it names and action descriptions) and the duration of each cue with a stop-watch. If I was interested in buying the CD, I would take my list and check it against the track-list on the CD cover at a record store. At that time, I didn’t take into consideration that the music heard in the film would have been edited down or that music-cues would be combined for the album. The result of my idea of collecting the right CDs for me was a hit-or-miss. I was happy with ‘High Spirits’, but was disappointed with ‘The Fly II’. In the latter, the one cue I wanted to play on my stereo was not on the Varese CD. It’s where Brundle, Jr ransacks his room in searching for a hidden camera when he finds out that Bartok broke his promise on not having the kid under surveillance. Christopher Young’s music for that scene had some good fury coming from the orchestra. I guess some of us want a soundtrack album to have every cue of music from the film because we want an assurance that we get the music that we liked from the music, even if this album had a bunch of cues that we didn’t like.
  4. In the theatrical cut of that sequence, there was a splice in the end of the music-cue, “Total Logic”, so that it would fit the length of that sequence. I am thinking that the reason that new footage of the San Francisco sequence was created was because the filmmakers wanted to keep that music-cue unedited.

  6. I would think that releasing final footage of a highly anticipated movie over 7 months before the film’s release would not be in Universal Studios’ programming. That was certainly the studios attitude’s according to director Colin Treverrow and composer Michael Giacchino, who introduced the screening of the final-cut prologue from 'JW: Fallen Kingdom' at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC on May 30, 2018 during the world premiere of the JW-LTP concert. They asked the audience to shut-off their phones during the screening. To make sure that request was followed during the screening of that sequence, security guards were walking along the rows and looking at audience members to make sure their phones were not exposed.
  7. I hope Debney the survives the stampede by you fans when he comes to Buffalo, NY this December 3rd. https://bpo.org/event/elf-in-concert/
  8. I have a theory as to why no other orchestra in the world, outside of Switzerland and the UK, is booking Superman…and it is not because they don’t want to do it. The Citi Light Symphony Orchestra probably paid extra to FCL, the rental company that created the concert, to make sure that no other orchestra does this concert before they do. So any orchestra that wants to use this rental would have to schedule it after the time that Citi Light finishes with it, which as it stands now is after January 28, 2022. If it were the pre-pandemic days, we would now see orchestras have dates for ‘Superman’ from January 28th until, at least, the end of 2022. But since the COVID hasn’t ended yet and Citi Light has postponed this concert 3 times due to health concerns, I’m thinking that the other orchestras are waiting until after Citi Light's January 28th performance to start booking it. If the other orchestras had started scheduling the concert now and that Swiss orchestra had to postpone it again, then those other orchestras would also have to postpone and reschedule at a time after Citi Light's new performance date. The other orchestras do not want to go through another period, again, where they have to disappoint patrons and beg them to not ask for refunds on their ticket prices. I’m sure these orchestras have lost enough money. Maybe someone who is more experienced in the orchestra-administrative end, like @PoggoAOTS can weigh in on this.
  9. We’re only hearing this out of one person. Why not wait until other people in the industry corroborate with Karam’s statement. Knocking a pedestal out of James Horner is hard work for an 80+ year old man to do by himself.
  10. A third booking of the 'Jurassic World' LTP concert for this December in France. Orchestre Symphonique Européen conducted by Pierre-Yves Gronier. December 19, 2021 https://www.zenithdelille.com/programmation/jurassic-world-en-cine-concert/
  11. Apparently, none of us attended this concert, otherwise this thread would have blown-up about JW's appearance on stage after the concert. Source: Dallas Morning News With violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, Fabio Luisi led a Dallas Symphony gala with some surprises (ampproject.org) Also from that article: Until then, my suggestion would be to look-in the orchestra's Facebook page for any video clips of that concert.
  12. A line about mask-wearing got laughs at a 'Princess Bride' LTP concert. https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/amp/SF-Symphony-Princess-Bride-screening-16482159.php
  13. At least this new Matrix film has inspired a USA orchestra to book 'The Matrix' L2P concert for July '22. The last USA booking was over 8 years ago.
  14. A 'Variety' article from Jon Burlingame talks about the 'Black Panther' L2P concert this weekend at the Hollywood Bowl. 'Black Panther' Score to Be Performed at Hollywood Bowl - Varietyhttps://variety.com/2021/artisans/news/black-panther-score-hollywood-bowl-1235057552/ Here are the highlights: I hear that the Hollywood Bowl does their rehearsals of their concerts for the public for free. I wonder if one could get in on the rehearsals for that concert.
  15. Are you talking about excerpts from the score or the entire score? Are you putting on a 'film-with-live-orchestra' concert? When you have recovered from this forum's royal welcome, can you tell us about the event?

  17. Not necessarily. Mondo could use the 1978 WB Records album master and keep the production cost low. If they use the LLL master, they would have to pay an extra licensing fee to LLL for the use.
  18. ...and got smart by passing on this. MV said this: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=1&pageID=2&threadID=143595&archive=0
  19. Thanks for reporting that, @Omen II. Wondering if any orchestra in the world can still put 'Superman' on after January, or do they have to wait until after June when the RAH is finished with it? Here in the USA and Canada, there are still a few orchestras that haven't posted their new year's schedule of concerts so I'm wondering if these orchestras will put 'Superman' on during the later Winter/early Spring '22?
  20. KKL Luzern, Switzerland Citi Light Symphony Orchestra, Anthony Gabriele, conductor New Date: Friday, January 28, 2022 https://www.citylightconcerts.ch/event/superman-in-concert-kklluzern/ The description reads that it will be the 'world premiere', so the RAH will have to schedule this after January 28th.
  21. That quote references the TT Blu Ray. Does the Arrow UK Blu Ray retain the isolated music track where you hear the slate announcements, and JW's comments before each music cue?
  22. I think you mean the June 2019 screening of a 1981 UK 70mm print presented by AMPAS. Star Wars and Rogue One | Oscars.org | Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences After the screening, there was a seminar that featured the crew of Star Wars--including Marcia Lucas, John Dykstra, Richard Edlund, et. al. According to Dykstra at that seminar, the Academy took significant effort to get Lucas to sign-off on the showing. Yes, very exceptional.
  23. Although there are threads on this forum devoted to individual recordings of this piece and one thread devoted to a specific live performance of this piece… https://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/13616-tuba-concerto-performance-sept-27-usc/&tab=comments#comment-362501 …I thought I would start a thread devoted to current and future bookings of this piece. Here’s one to start you off: Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra Andrew Constantine, conductor Chance Trottman-Huiet, tuba February 19, 2022, 7:30pm https://fwphil.org/events/john-williams-and-dvorak
  24. We already know that Lucasfilm is working hard in preventing anyone from even screening 35mm prints of the Star Wars theatrical cuts. A non-for-profit organization in Stockton, CA, The Friends of the Fox Theater, was to screen the original ‘Star Wars’ 1977 cut in July 2019, but when word got around about it, Lucasfilm gave that organization a C&D notice. So, they ended-up screening the 2011 cut.
  25. Those who can't wait, these events are happening in September: https://www.hollywoodbowl.com/events/performances/1255/2021-09-10/black-panther-in-concert https://manncenter.org/events/2021-09-25/black-panther-concert
