  1. Anyone checked out the LTP concerts for 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse?"  It premiered in New York City (Brooklyn's Kings Theatre) this past March.

    Here's the generic description.

    Quote

Featuring a soundtrack that blends symphonic orchestral music with hip-hop, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert" pairs a screening of the Academy Award®-winning animated film with live musicians and turntables featuring a DJ scratcher live on stage. Emmy®-winner Daniel Pemberton composed a sprawling score of boundary-pushing original music that is complimented with song contributions by Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Jaden Smith and Nicki Minaj. The hip-hop based score results in a sonic universe that is woven throughout the fabric of the film, supporting its themes of resilience and universal heroism.

Here's a few videos from that event.

And here are future scheduled dates (courtesy of 'Movies In Concert' website)--both in the USA and the UK.

That's annoyingly close. I have to remember that I hate these things. Then "I can't afford it" becomes less troubling.

I just found out about it this morning.  A friend of mine texted me about it during the night.  He had been monitoring that orchestra's website and noticed that they haven't posted any LTP concerts for the new season's schedule.  That orchestra had just posted those concerts in the schedule yesterday.

I don't know whether that orchestra will still be in 'subscription' mode, where you have to buy, at least, three concerts to buy this one right now.

  3. From the CapedWonder website, here's a 9-minute video of select scenes from 'Superman' with audio from last June's RAH concert sync'd in.

I find it hard to believe that there aren't any crowd-reactions in that audio--cheers, laughs, etc.  To those of you that attended that concert  @rough cut, @Omen II, @crocodile, @ciarlese-- do you remember the audience being that silent during those scenes?

  4. In the center channel of my DVD rip from ‘Empire Strikes Back’, I noticed that there was this piano part in the score during the sequence where Leia warns Luke that ‘it’s a trap’ against the laser-gun fire exchanges.  This piano part would occur in ‘Carbon Freeze/Darth Vader’s Trap’ at the track's 6:19 mark but you could barely hear it.  Does this piano part appear in any of the channels of that cue from that Apple album from?

Now that Disney has a firm release of Indy 5, Disney Concerts can get off their butts and start preparing a LTP concert for, at least, one of the Indy films, so that they can take advantage of the fanbase who are now counting down the days towards the release.

I may be wrong in thinking Disney Concerts can do anything about producing LTP concerts of the released Indiana Jones films—TOD, TLC, and TKCS.  What I’m about to say are just theories based on facts.

My reason is that Paramount Pictures still owns the distribution rights (showing a film at a theatre, TV broadcast, home video, streaming, etc) to these said films, while Disney owns the music-score rights of these films--Bantha Music is the publisher of the Lucasfilm music-scores and Disney owns Lucasfilm.  So, Disney Concerts can’t do the LTP concerts of these films without the license from Paramount to show the films at the concert halls, amphitheaters, etc. and, apparently, Paramount is playing ball with them.

Can a concert production company-like Film Concerts Live, or CineConcerts-create one by paying the licensing fees to both Disney and Paramount? Perhaps, but apparently no company has been successful at doing that, at least not for this year.  According to the website, ‘Movies In Concert’, multiple bookings of the Raiders LTP concert are turning up for the next 12 months.

Theories as to why LTP concerts of any of these films hasn't been created:

    • at least one of the studios--Disney or Paramount--won't license their properties

          or

    • the combine license fees from both studios are huge.  The producer creating the concerts has to pass the cost along to the clients-the orchestras that use the rentals-and they won't pay it because they won't make a profit--it even if the concerts sell out all the seats at their venues.

Now, it may be possible that Disney Concerts can make a LTP concert of DoD, because Disney has both distribution and music-score ownership.  Disney Concerts created LTP concerts of recently released films like Black Panther and 2022's West Side Story.

  6. Looks like the next best thing is to attend a rehearsal of a LTP concert where there's no film-audio.  I’ve seen orchestras offer invites to rehearsals of classical concerts—called 'open rehearsals'.  Some venues charge admission, while others are open to only the donors for the orchestra.  I’ve never seen one done for an LTP concert.  I thought us film-music fans were in on a breakthrough when I saw this from Tanglewood on an open rehearsal for a Harry Potter LTP concert…

When I saw, 'Open Rehearsal', I am thinking, "Wow, finally a chance to hear even portions of this score without the film's sound."

Then I saw the time--August 26 at 10:30am--that is the morning of the show.

During my research into this, that schedule suggests that it is the last rehearsal before the show--the dress rehearsal where the orchestra would work with the film's sound, projection and all the technical stuff (the house lights, the click-track, etc).  Still, I'm very surprised that the orchestra-administration would invite the public to any rehearsal of a LTP concert.

I would like to be wrong on whether that rehearsal would have the film's sound with the music playing.  Jay, since Boston is your side of the street, maybe you can check-it out for us.

…but the link is dead and this event is no longer in the Tangelwood schedule.

The Hollywood Bowl is legend for free access to their rehearsals.  You can try attending a rehearsal of a LTP concert—there’s 'Psycho', 'Harry Potter...Deadly Hallows', '2001', 'SW:ROTJ', going on this summer.

I just figured it had already been discussed in another thread.

I noticed the ending changed. In 1980 that basically never happened.

It may not have been discussed in this thread, but this news is no longer a surprise to most of us, as this alternate ending was discussed in detail in the 2010 J.W. Rinzler book, ‘The Making of the Empire Strikes Back.’  Die-hard Star Wars fans have known about the alternate ending long before the Rinzler book came out as discussed in these threads from the website, ‘Original Trilogy’ dating back to 2005.

Also, before David Morgan became a TV-news producer and author, he was a pre-teen film-music geek who snuck in a tape recorder, which at the time was no bigger than the size of a shoe-box, inside a movie theater and made an audio recording of an ESB screening during the first four weeks of its release.  The cut that was shown during that time period had the alternate ending—where you do not hear the Luke theme from the ‘Yoda and the Force’ cue heard over the start of the Rebel Fleet scene and there is no mention of Jabba the Hut or 'that bounty hunter".  Some years later, Morgan had the recordings digitized and shared it on his blog.

A fan made this re-creation of the alternate ending with the audio-theatre recording.
