I feel like any of these could be put in any spot depending on the day for me, but this is a good list I think. I guess I am more of a fan of his scores from the late 90's onwards! Definitely super hard to narrow it down to 10

  2. I am interested to hear peoples thoughts who have seen the Barbie movie. It sounds like to me that there is a little tad bit of Desplat's music left over in the final film during the scene where Barbie finds Barbra in the Mattel headquarters.  There is a bit of what sounds like diagetic music playing from a radio that sounds to me like an orchestral, quirky version of the main theme of the film. From my recollection, it gets quite big and colorful as well.

I am curious if anyone else noticed this? If it is his music, it seems odd that they would include it but not credit him, but if it isn't him then it is a very convincing Desalt sound-a-like.

It is also curious that the score proper wasn't released in anyway.

Ah, thanks. As someone who's done some professional engraving work for film music, that part raises some questions.

When it changes to 6/8, why have one measure of rest and then a 6-bar block rest? Why not just make it a 7-bar block rest?

And in measure 22, why is there a clef change to treble indicated when it was already in treble clef the entire time?

    Very weird.

The single 6/8 bar is to show the musicians what the click will be doing. You can see it on top of the bars in some places places. In this case they are prepping the players for the switch from 6/4 to 6/8.

The treble clef is likely just a mistake, which are bound to happen in any situation:)

Do we have concrete evidence that this is what the sessions are for or just pure speculation?

It isn’t pure speculation but I am fairly confident that these sessions were demos only. There were only three days of sessions and you typically need far more than that for a score of this size.

I can't remember if we have a separate thread for noticing similarities within just Williams music, but I was listening to the Cello Concerto this morning and couldn't help making this mental connection.  Really that whole section of the scherzo movement sounds so much like modern JW action motifs.

He actually directly quotes the the fourth movement of his Cello Concerto in this cue from Angela's Ashes:

  6. The Wow.. I have a real soft spot for this score and I hold it highly as one of my top five favorites. I cant' really even think to pick a favorite theme either. Every time I listen to any presentation of any theme, I always think "yep this is my favorite, no doubt" then the next one comes on and its the same.

If I had to pick I think "With Malice Toward None". Especially because of when it happens at the end like @Disco Stujust mentioned. This score is just masterful and a pure expression, it doesn't get much better!

The theme comes in at the exact perfect moment. Goosebumps

Also wanted to share something a little darker from the same film. This Scene is a very explicit scene where Dr. Goebbles (the head Nazi propaganda person, don’t know the offices title sorry lol) is threatening the main character because she messed up a line in the script and at the end he assaults her basically.

I will admit I feel like this one isn’t as well programmed but still open to feedback as well! All the material from this is derived from a short little theme I have for him which was a fun challenge.

I didn’t add the link to the second cue 😅 my bad. Anyways here is that!

    Sounds like a JW AI.

So this is a bad thing? Someone who can write colorful scores in the vein of Williams but bring their own tastes to it is better then?

BTW I agree with this notion 100%. I definitely think that there are elements of the Battlefront scores that does have a unique voice outside of a JW clone though.

When they began filming the movie in June of 2021, it had a released date of July 29, 2022.

In October of 2021, they announced that the release date was changing to June 30, 2023.

Either way JW would have written and recorded the score in the first half of 2022.  Previously it would have had a deadline of sometime in early July.  Now, they will probably continue post-production into August or September, somewhere around there.

I haven't really been following the development of the new indy film in any detail, so I am not surprised I missed this! Thanks for the clarification!

    Yes

The delaying of the film for a year does not instantly create another 12 months of post-production budget.  Everyone working on the film needs to get this thing in the can by the summer, and then Paramount will juts not release it until next summer.

Universal just did the same thing with Jurassic World 3

I wasn't aware of this delay of release, that is why I acted surprised. I know how film budgets work:)

    You never know!

Seems like more and more studios are doing that these days!
