I agree that the score can at moments it does have a bit of an everything and the kitchen sink feel. But I thought his string work and his more orchestral horror moments were really strong. Especially with the homages to Horner's snare drums.
Curious to hear it on album.

Because it took them months to renew. Usually when a show is a big hit, the news comes very quickly. I lost hope a bit.

Everything!
Love the swashbuckling stuff, love the awe-inspiring ("The Bubble" is the best underwater religioso track this side of the THE ABYSS finale), love the exotic/ethnic colours and instrumentation, love the electronic bits. "Swimming" is one of the best film music tracks written in all of history, perfectly capturing the feeling, sound, temperature and viscosity of water. Goosebumps and tears galore! It's a long album, for sure, but rarely a boring moment.
It also helps, of course, that I've adored the film since it came out (against all critics...that just reinforced my love!), have seen it probably 20 times, and it's one of the first soundtracks I got on CD. So enormous personal, nostalgic connection as well. Listening to it brings me back to a fond time in my life, and in my film music exploration. I try not to listen to it too much these days, though, so as not to "over-use" it.
Might sound hyperbolic to everyone else, but to me it's just perfection through and through. It's been on my top 10 list of scores (not only by JNH, but in general) for 30 years, and will likely stay there until I die.
I've never actually heard it before, but your words convinced me that I really should. And check out the film as well. I love a film critics don't. Hahaha

New trailer. Best they've had for this season.
It shows the stakes a lot better. And I love seeing more of the performances. Charlie Vickers & Charles Edwards are doing a fantastic job.

Of course. How did that slip my mind. Such a fun score!!

I've not seen it, I'm not a fan of these recorded trailers from conventions. I'll just wait for it to release officially because then I can actaully really see what's in it.
I did see a short clip of the fight between Yelena, Ghost, U.S. Agent & Taskmaster and it looked really cool. I'm excited to see where they take this film and what the * means in the title.

Multiple scores from his father as additional composer and orchestrator. He wrote the Batmobile highway cue from The Batman.
He did a bunch of shorts and last year the latest Muppet series, Muppet Mayhem.

That looks good. Love seeing Mary-Louise Parker again, always like her but she's been more absemt these past few years. Last time I saw her in anything was Red Sparrow

New trailer for Only Murders In The Building S4! 2 more weeks to week.
Wasn't aware that Levy, Longoria & Galifianakis were actually playing versions of themselves! That is so funny!!

I think I'm more optimistic than you about the film, but I do agree with you for the most part.

It's a quiet score, with 2 themes kind of dancing around each other.
But it's really beautiful. I really connected to it. Beautiful performance and clean recording as well.
I cut about 10 minutes of cues that were under a minute long, so left with a 39 minute album.
Just stunning. Really love it.
Cue below is definitely my favourite and one of the most beautiful pieces I've heard this year.
Listened to this again today. I still absolutely love it. It's so beautiful and it made me shed a tear a bit. Might be due to personal stuff, but it moved me nontheless. Cue I linked is still one of my favorite cues this year!

I do! Maybe it's because it's one of my favorites films ever, but Howard's work is soo good. The original album doesn't so it any favors though and should really be heard on the expanded album to fully appreciate it's brilliance.

Silvestri's Captain America theme is not iconic??
After The Avengers theme it's probably the most reconizable theme from the MCU.

That's true, and this is of course nothing against Melumad, but that felt more like Giacchino bringing her on board while he was scoring it.

I'm going to be honest, I never thought this was something you'd really like, but I'm glad you do. I love the main theme and "I Won't Leave You" is such a haunting cue. Whole thing is underrated.
