It's just ONE 3-minute song in an 8-hour season. I'm sure pretty much the rest of the score will be really close in style to what we heard in S1 which in my opinion, was brilliant! Really looking forward to hear more tracks before the release.

I agree. It's only the first 3 minutes of the new season we've heard. It might be used on multiple occassions, but it's not an indicator that the whole score is suddenly metal. This is one theme for one character.

  2. Is anybody wishing for a certain composer for this?

James Newton Howard would be really cool.

Maybe Christopher Lennertz in his orchestral mode.

Kevin Kaska would be a great pick as well.

Or how awesome would it be if Thomas Newman did it, but that's very unlikely.

  3. I think The Marvels score is great. There is a new theme that is for them as a trio.

I do feel maybe Toprak's theme could've been quotes a few times at the start of the film. But overall that score is great!

What If...? S1 was such a spectacular effort from Karpman. What she did there is nothing short of remarkable. S2 is just as good, but because we got that awful album release, we'll never really now how great it is.

  4. I saw this today at home. After all the discourse around it a few weeks ago, I really thought I was in for a trainwreck, but I actually really enjoyed myself.

It's far from a perfect film. It's also not great, but I'd say it's pretty good. There are a few issues that drag the film down quite a bit. The entire film feels like a setup for what is (hopefully) coming (someday). That means that nothing feels really complete and a lot of characters are just there, without doing much. There is both a lot happening, but at the same time there is also not enough happening.

The other thing I found really jarring is that there seem to be quite a few time jumps in the story, but none of this is made clear. It feels like it's all happening over a few days or weeks, but I read after seeing it that years pass by. Because that wasn't made clear in the film itself, I felt like I missed large parts of the story. Like chunks were cut out. Characters were suddenly acting differently etc. It was a strange thing.

What I thought did work was the worldbuilding, the cinematography, the music and most of the performances. Everybody is pretty good, but there are no real standouts because nobody really gets any good stuff to do.

The film looks stunning. Beautiful vistas, landscapes and shots throughout the entire film. When the action comes, it's brutal, gritty and well shot.

My favourite thing by far, was the music by John Debney. His score has so much heart, an incredible main theme, exciting action music and some passages that made me almost tear up. And that was all due to his music, because what happened on screen wasn't that captivating. So I thought that was just fantastic!

I love Westerns, so I'm really curious what Chapter 2 is like. I do hope some of the problems will be looked at and changed. And for completely selfish reasons I also really don't mind if Chapter 2 is more of the same and only okay, I just need more of John Debney's music.

  5. Ezra - Carlos Rafael Rivera

It's a short album, 25 minutes including 2 versions of a song, but Rivera makes the most of it. He builds his score from his suite, mostly based around piano and strings, which means the score is of the theme and variation type. But with this running time, it really works. His main theme is beautiful and a bit restless, which fits the film really well.

Rivera's has been on a roll over the last few years. Long or short, his scores always make an impression.

  6. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Tom Holkenborg

I generally really like Holkenborg's stuff and Fury Road is such a great score through it's adrenaline etc. But this, I'm having a hard time with it. I think I understand what he & Miller tried to do, and there are momemts in the film that it's really effective, but on album it's horrible. Really not for me, I'm almost inclined to say that it's not music anymore.

Atleast I still have Fury Road

The Last Starfighter is one of my favorite scores of all time!  Works wonderfully in its complete presentation as well.

I only wish I had been able to get into anything else Craig Safan did.

Really that is awesome. I'll definitely revisit it a few times after I've seen the film as well.

What makes it one of your favorites?
