  1. Same. Why is Newman suddenly doing all these thriller projects. It's like he doesn't want to do other stuff where he gets to write more broader music. Really miss that Newman. Elemental showed a bit of that, but it still wasn't like he did back in the day.

I guess they'll be using another piece of existing underscore for end credits music for this episode, since the remaining season 2 concert arrangements (Stoors, Estrid, Eregion, and Damrod) are for themes that aren't in this episode.

"Sauron's Design" is the end credits piece!!!

    From 0:16 till the end.

Music in context was spectacular this episode! The whole episode is probably my favorite of the entire season. Lot's of interesting things happened and great setup for what's to come in the final 3 episodes.

"Deceit In The Craft" is such a fantastic cue. There is a small break before the Galadriel statement at the end in the episode, but the rest of the cue plays as one for 9 minutes straight. It's really well done on McCreary's part, how he works with all the different themes etc.

  3. ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Tallies $41.5 Million Opening Day — Second Biggest Ever for September

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” jumped in the line and earned $41.5 million from 4,575 locations across Friday and preview screenings. That’s the second-biggest opening day ever for a September release, only falling behind 2017’s “It” ($50.425 million). It’s also the biggest-ever for director Tim Burton‘s career, landing ahead of the $40.8 million opening day of “Alice in Wonderland” back in 2010.

That is fantastic! After a long career (with ups and downs) to have such a big hit with the thing that put you on the map more than 30 years ago. Incredible!

  4. I think there are a couple scenes that maybe could've had score replaced by a song.

For example, the introduction of Monica Belluci's character, Astrid riding through town and there was another, but I can't remember it at the moment.

But there were also scenes that were made for songs, like MacArthur Park 100% was meant to be in there, because the whole sequence is based around it.

  5. The Perfect Couple - Ruoeet Gregson-Williams

A decent modern thriller score. There is a main theme which Gregson-Williams uses exstensively throughout the series, although it won't remain in the memeory for long. It's all very undemanding stuff. On album it's really just okay, but in context the score works great.

I do hope Gregson-Williams gets to do something more in the future though than these thriller type scores.

  6. What I find most noticable and interesting is that one of the biggest differences between the original and the sequel is the way music is used.

In the original Elfman's score truly is it's own character in the film. It elevates so many moments and is very prominent.

In the sequel the biggest musical moments are songs. The score takes a back seat for most of the film, while a few songs are used for big and important scenes.

Does this maybe has to do with the way audiences watch films these days? Or that scores maybe serve a different kind of purpose these days to a lot of people?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
