I extracted the Leaving Home track from the Oscars broadcast recording I had....
It was a 5.1 AC3 source. I downmixed to stereo in "fake" lossless to not lose any more quality....

'themes' or cues'?
If you're talking about '9 different themes', there are a lot of scores with more than that.
9 different themes that good in the same score?
I don't really know the difference between themes and cues, my bad

Yeah, "Leaving Home" is made of two different parts: the first one when Clark finds the green crystal in the barn and then, what we heard at the Oscars, the morning after, when he's telling his mom he's leaving for good.
The first part doesn't fit for In Memoriam, it's a mysterious piece...

Well thats because half of the supposed JW fans didn't know what it was.
Superman deserves far more respect and love than it receives.
As i said before, IMO Superman is the greatest score ever: there are at least 9 different unforgettable tracks in this one:
Chronologically
- Prelude and Main Title
- The Planet Krypton and The Dome Opens
- Jonathan's Death
- Leaving Home
- The Fortress of Solitude
- The Helicopter Sequence
- The Flying Sequence
- To the Lair
- Love Theme From Superman
I don't remember another score so deep for a single movie....

Mike confirms on FSM

QuoteThis was done exactly like the first Harry Potter, 192k 24bit, with all the assembly & restoration done on the transferred first generation data and then output straight to CD master files.
Oh my God!
ORDERED!

Superman IV already came from first gen 2" 24-track masters in 2008 (La La Land reissued the same discs last year)
6 and 4 track mixdowns by John Richards were used for Superman II and III (La La Land used the same masters for the II/III boxset)
I don't think that Ken Thorne's adaptations for Superman II and III have enough market for a re-release. Thorne was basically hired to use and adapt John Williams' material from the first movie.

Well, they could also release a surround sound version...
that would be great but it's even more unlikely considering that DVD-Audio and SACD are even more dead than standard CDs

It is really time for Star Wars and Indiana Jones to get such a definitive chapter-ending treatment. This set is a great opportunity to give that score the attention it deserves. I was never a fan of the score, but maybe I will become one.
I guess I'm one of the few people here that considers Superman as John Williams' greatest work.
I don't think any other score compares to this: so many unique and unforgettable themes
It's my favorite movie ever, and the music is a big reason why

Mike agrees with me then: the only thing they can do in the future is to re-release this as a FLAC 96khz/24bit version... And it wouldn't be a physical release anyway, just digital.
Like I said I don't have the right equipment to take advantage of Hi-Res Audio anyway -
Actually if the Rhino release source was 3 generations down from the original it means it was 4th gen
FSM box source was one gen closer = 3rd gen
And we are going from a 6-track to a 24-track source

If this new LLL release was made from the first generation recording masters, then what was the FSM made from?
http://legacy.aintitcool.com/node/35754
QuoteThe Rhino release used a combination of source elements: 6-track dubbing stems three generations down from the original, 3-track stems at least one generation further away, a 2-track reel of "outs" and the original LP 1/4" master, all mixed and matched and combined for the purpose of restoring the full length of the cues. Just as that release was coming out, the 6-track "goody" reels were recovered which contained all the original lengths of cues in consistent quality that was one generation closer to the original.
Hi guys, long time reader. Huge Superman fan, I consider this the greatest score ever written. I'm beyond excited....
So we are going from a 3rd generation 6-track to a 1st generation 24-track source !
