  1. Yeah, seems like “Kevin Kiner” is practically like a band/company name at this point. Don’t forget, they pulled the same thing when they released the singles “The Bad Batch Theme” and “Enter the Bad Batch.” Both tracks were written by Sean, yet Kevin got the cover credit.
  2. The beginning of each of these, written less than a decade apart:
  3. Did you all order directly from Varese? I thought a lot of people advised against that these days(?). I had pretty bad luck the one time I did, so I ordered from SAE this time. Not sure if I just had a weird one-off bad experience, or if it was the norm, but from what I read online it seemed more like the norm.
  4. Oh man, wasn’t really looking forward to this show but I may have to tune in just to hear Abels! Really unexpected but exciting choice!
  5. Not sure where else to post this (do we have a general homage/plagiarism thread, or just one for Williams and one for Horner?), but I was listening to some Poulenc and the beginning of this melody sounded familiar...
  6. Well, now I’m regretting buying the 2020 one on the secondhand market just last fall… How many times are they going to redo this thing???
  7. Huh? Genuinely puzzled by this. The award isn’t for the composer who reaches/tops their previous work; it’s for the best score of a given year… It’s entirely possible for JW to write a score that “doesn’t reach the heights of his most classic works,” and for that score to still happen to be better than the other contenders...
  8. Yes, I get that. But saying “not at all” is incorrect, since according to the common definition of the term, it is very much a naked link. My initial comment was just joking about how even though you wrote more than just the link, it was still technically a naked link. Lol, never mind.
  9. How so? Google “naked link” and you’ll see what I mean; a naked link is when you have an exposed/visible URL as the anchor text, rather than a keyword.
  10. I never saw Dominion, but I thought that one was supposed to be the last film…?
  11. I haven’t listened to disc 3 yet, but I should mention that multiple people over at FSM noticed an issue on disc 1, track 20 at around 7:33. I hear it too. Apparently the same spot in the original RCA album didn’t have this issue, so it could be due to damage/a defect in Intrada’s source material?

  13. I mean, like I said, it doesn’t look to be the LSO. Lol. The first chair horn player there in the video is Richard Watkins, a top London freelancer who usually plays first on Powell’s scores over there, and who played first on Jedi: Survivor. EDIT: From what I can see, not a single horn player in the video is an LSO member.
  14. Jedi: Survivor wasn’t the LSO; it was a contracted freelance orchestra.
  15. Are we sure it’s the LSO? At least from the horn section, looks like London studio players to me.
  16. I mean this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/4508411-John-Williams-The-Reivers On another note, does anyone happen to have a 600x600 or higher image of the cover for the 1990 CD release of Marvin Hamlisch’s Ice Castles?
  17. Just wondering, what do you all use for the year field: the year the album originally came out (even if it’s a later, remastered version), or the year the CD itself actually came out? Lately I’ve been going with the year of the actual CD release, but am currently dealing with the frustration of not being able to find a clear answer for when a particular CD was released. (No year anywhere on the product, and conflicting information across the web.)
  18. Lol. Full disclaimer: I am not a sports guy, but am I the only one who finds it kind of tacky and laughable seeing football players (and college ones!) compared to NASA astronauts…? I’m a musician, but I would find it just as cringey seeing a video comparing musicians to astronauts. Anyways, love hearing the theme again, but sometimes I don’t mind forgetting what it was written for.
  19. Just noticed that the Hunter Eberly recording of the Trumpet Concerto is finally available, FYI: EDIT: Here is the press release from DSO: https://www.dso.org/watch-listen-and-connect/newsroom-2/new-dso-recording-john-williamss-trumpet-concerto-with-principal-trumpet-hunter-eberly-on-naxos-label
