SABRINA, really? I think SABRINA is up there with the greats.

I was surprised by how enjoyable this score was. Definitely more lush and orchestral -- and Zimmer mostly avoids the harsh sound design that pervaded his work on his most recent movies.

There's a sense of adventure, playfulness, pathos and romance in this score. Really accentuates the better parts of the movie for sure.

They are all great, but Hunchback has probably the best score overall, the best score piece (Sanctuary), and what is probably the best song and best animated sequence (Hellfire). Out There and The Bells of Notre Dame are also absolutely brilliant songs. I do really love all the choices, but Hunchback takes the cake.

I'm glad he didn't retired, WW84 is his best score since Interstellar and the most enjoyable since Pirates 3.

The new Season 2 volume 2 OST album is GREAT!

There are a number of reasons for this

One is that the scores for episodes 5-8 just happened to be overall better than the scores for episodes 1-4 (IMO)

Also, it seems as the season went on ratio of new music compared to tracked season 1 music got better and better, with the finale being all original music, from what I noticed watching once anyway... and so, the Vol 2 album is longer, which is great, as the ideas get more room to shine and develop

And finally, a big problem I had with the Vol 1 album was that it had no ending, there was no "big finish" or anything, the album just kind of went along its way building and building, and then just stopped.  This is completely irrelevant now, because if you simply listen to both albums back to back as if it was one single album, you get an extremely satisfying album experience with nothing unusual about its structure or pacing at all.  Basically, if they had just released Season 2's score as a 109 minute album after the whole season was over instead of splitting it in two volumes, it would have done a better service to the music, IMO (though, it was nice getting half of it a month earlier!)

I've already listened to this album many times since Friday!  This (double) album is one of my favorite film score releases of the year!

Waiting for Volume 2 to release like...

Here's the new credits piece to make the wait a little easier:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GzDN51owVhDub6HN3V84uxMNqltgOKT1/view?usp=sharing

Also looks like that Bart Oss fellow has confirmed the tracklist:

The Chapter 13 cues were exactly as we thought. The Chapter 14 ones look like they include The Armor, which may cover some Boba Fett stuff. Rest in Peace is quite clearly now a cute joke title for when they leave Bill Burr. And then the rest of the album is full out Chapter 16 stuff, and with good reason!

    EDIT:

    It's up!!!!

    Hi guys!

New to this forum but was pleased to see others feeling the same way about this music!
Crazy to see LITERALLY THE SAME THEME in Morricone's score - hilarious!

I think that it might go back further than both of theme though - was listening to Massenet's Manon the other day for the first time (amazing stuff haven't finished it yet) and towards the end of the prelude the same motif suddenly sprang out of nowhere! I was pretty shocked and actually disappointed (once again) in John Williams ahaha.
    https://youtu.be/xsx3D7QCJnU?t=202
Hopefully that will play from the exact moment at 3:22.
What do you guys think? Deliberate? Mistake? Coincidence?
I will listen to the rest and see if the motif is used again!

She actually love Star Wars and frequently plays John Williams SW songs on our smart speaker.  She also frequently watches it (!) on YouTube when doing other things like reading.  As a result, I thought something John Williams would be cool for Xmas.  Naturally I can buy her a soundtrack (probably will), and I just saw a t-shirt of him that I might get. She isn't super great at piano so sheet music isn't an option.  Anyone know of anything else?  Are there any books/in-depth interview type things that might engage a 12 yo?

Anything that might explain his inspirations/thoughts? Motivations? Creative process?  She loves how JW tells the story musically as much as the actual movie does..("This used was supposed to be the Force theme, but it is now Yoda's theme? Can you hear how they introduce it lightly when Ahsoka walks in?" kind of statements... to which I am always like "um..no")  As a result of SW, she has branched out to his other music and also listens to that but Star Wars is definitely her primary.

Any ideas/thoughts welcomed.  THanks in advance.

I completely agree.  I think it would be interesting to trace exactly how grand orchestral scores have come to be viewed almost as tasteless by people who fancy themselves as intellectual.

Beat me to it @Edmilson Great news indeed, I think?

Even if purchases/downloads were only 1% that amount, it'd still be 5,000 sales ($100,000 USD revenue, based on the HDTracks price).

Not surprised by that. I’ve come across multiple albums on iTunes that list—in the Composer field—a composer whose music was referenced/used in the track, even though they themselves had nothing to do with writing the specific track. I think it’s an iTunes/digital music store common practice. The Artist field seems to be used for the guy who specifically worked on the track for the most part (generally the main composer of the soundtrack), while the Composer field is used to list every composer whose music was featured in the track.

Take for instance “Canto Bight” from TLJ; in the Composer field we have "John Williams & Ary Barroso” because “Brazil” is quoted—even though Ary Barroso obviously had nothing to do with TLJ. Or another example: The recent “Quite a Soldier” track from Mandalorian Season 2 lists “Ludwig Göransson & John Williams” in the Composer field due to the JW reference it uses.

Not sure if this is any sort of motif that can be found anywhere else, but I noticed this figure that shows up in both these tracks:

    (1:09)

    (1:44)

EDIT: It might actually just be an underlying counterpoint to the show’s main theme. Either way, those two spots are the same.

When I found some other examples in the latter two episodes of Season One I had thought it may be connected to IG-11 or some final confrontation, but I realize now, as is often the case, that it doesn't fit within our understanding of leitmotif,  and is merely used in a number of settings for a number of purposes as Goransson sees fit. Some more examples:

Gosh I'm really in love with "Empire Recruitment" as well. Definitely sounds super British. Reminds me a tad of Walton (or of JW's own forays into a British sound, like a couple times in HP1).
