If Williams had composed Lord of the Rings scores...
ChuckM replied to Jarbas's topic in Tolkien Central
Yes, I would have been severely ticked off if someone other than Williams had done one of the SW prequels. -
If Williams had composed Lord of the Rings scores...

If it had happened, then I would choose AI, and Catch Me If You Can to not be Williams. But I'm quite happy that it didn't happen as I wouldn't want to lose those Williams scores, OR Shore's amazing scores to the LotR films. -
When People Discredit Music Because It Is By A Film Composer...
ChuckM replied to Joe Brausam's topic in General Discussion
That's pretty un-cool. The problem is, whenever you like something that is different than what the majority of people in the world like, you end up getting criticized for it. Whether there is a legitimate reason for that or not. And nine times out of ten, the people criticizing don't even know a thing about what they are criticizing. They just hear other people saying stuff about it and assume it's true. Take a look at my avatar. I get criticized all the time for the DeLorean being my favorite car. The first thing everyone brings up is "Wasn't John DeLorean a drug dealer?" or "Don't those cars break down all the time?" or "Man, those doors must be a pain in close parking." And if they did even the slightest bit of research, they would find out that none of those accusations are true! [/rant] -
I also made a version with all three together like the Hal Leonard piece is. PM me if you would like it.

All right. I just finished piano transcriptions of all three NFL pieces. They're added to my site (the one in my signature). Enjoy!

I was kind of hoping you would actually ban a couple of us. (And then un-ban us today of course) Would have added more effect.

They breath air in Star Wars. Better stop that, Marc.

Wow, that's an awful lot of smilies.

Those silly brits and their stupid lists!

I love James Horner's "The Portrait," but I'm not too crazy about the Celine Dion version. -
As much as I like my DeLorean avatars, I think it's appropriate to set them aside temporarily in light of recent circumstances. (Yes, I even like the prequels!)

I was wondering if anyone knows the significance of the two different openings for Olympic Fanfare and Theme? In all my recordings of OFaT, there is one recording (I believe it is called Buglers Dream), but my piano sheet music, and the version of it my high school band played has a different opening. Anyone know why this is? (Also does anyone have a good recording of the alternate opening? )

MSM: I tried to send the link, but your inbox is full. You'll need to clear it out a little first.

I just finished de-beeping the John Williams arranged Star Spangled Banner. PM me if you want it.

Any time you edit an mp3 you will lose a tiny bit of quality, but it doesn't become noticeable until multiple times of editing it. If anyone else wants it, PM me.

Am I understanding correctly from the rules that you can link to a page that has the link, but you can't just give the link itself on the forum? If so: link removed Now don't be expecting it to sound perfect, but it's better anyway.

Ok, my first full attempt is done. The Raiders march. Let me know if anyone wants it. Also, I figured out a somewhat easier/ends up sounding better way to do it. After you've gotten the Noise Profile, go ahead and close the beep tone track (the one on the bottom). Then go to Tracks/Add New/Stereo Track. Ctrl/A (select all) the first track, then Ctrl/V (paste) the whole thing into the new track you just made. Ctrl/A on the new track, and do the Noise Removal on the whole thing. Then mute the lower track. Select the beep in the first track and go to Edit/Selection Save. Go to the second track and do Edit/Selection Restore. Copy that. Selection restore on the first track. Paste there. Repeat for all beeps. Otherwise the same process.

I love Hook. I'd be very eager to get both a better DVD and score. At least there's a decent bootleg of it.

What's the most musically complex piece Williams has ever written?
ChuckM replied to Quintus's topic in General Discussion
The whole Last Crusade score is definitely in the top five (at least) of my favorite scores. -
Alright, here's how to remove beeps. First, you need audacity. If you don't already have it, you can get it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. I would recommend getting the 1.3.2 Beta version, but the 1.2.6 stable release will work as well. (My instructions will be from the Beta though). Open Audacity, and then open the piece that you want to remove the beeps from. Then use File/Import/Audio to import the beep sound. (this) Click on the lower track (the beep tone) and then click the |<< arrow button on the tool bar to move the selection point to the beginning. Then go to Edit/Select/Cursor to End. This will select all of the beep tone. Then go to Effect/Noise Removal. When that pops up, click Get Noise Profile. You only have to do that part once per piece. Then you have to select a section that has the beep. I would zoom in and try to be as accurate as possible. You obviously don't want to miss part of the beep, but the Noise Removal does make it lose quite a bit of quality, so you don't want to do it to any more than you have to. Once you have selected just the area that has the beep, go to Effect/Noise Removal again. Move the slider almost all the way to None. This is a powerful tool, and you don't need it very strong. Click Ok, and that's it. Repeat for all the beeps in the piece. Note that it still will not sound perfectly smooth, but it won't be very noticeable any more, and it will be WAY better than those annoying beeps. Also note that if you are using the old version of Audacity, the location of some of the commands may be different than what I say since I am going by the beta version. When when you are finished with the piece, be sure to close the track for the beep. Just click on the x in it's top left corner. If you don't do this, you will simply add a beep to the beginning of the piece. Then go to File/Export As/mp3 (assuming you want an mp3 format). You will need the LAME mp3 codec if you don't already have it. http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php Hopefully this isn't too confusing. (I don't know how many people here use audacity very often.) Any questions, just ask.

I'm working on it, but like I said, it may take a while. I've got to run to class here pretty soon, but later when I get back I explain in more detail how to do it.

PM me your email

Hmm, well, I figured that, but thought I'd give it a shot anyway. I'll still look into those other programs too though. I can always use some notation software to fool around with.

The USPS Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars

I was wondering the same thing. I give all the mailboxes about a month before they disappear. -
That's not too hard to do with Audacity. It would just take a while to do to every piece. Just use the "Noise Removal" Effect, and this tone as the noise profile.
