Just saw this video:
And I noticed something: for this piece, John Williams is not using the sheet music to conduct the orchestra. The book where the sheets are supposed to be is closed:
Of course, Williams has conducted the Raiders March SO MANY TIMES since 1981 (and especially over the last 2 years) that he knows the piece top to bottom. Still, I think this is impressive, especially at his age.
For those of you who usually watch Williams' concerts: does he always conduct at least his most famous pieces without the sheets?
Yes, he also conducted Superman march, Imperial march and Throne room without the scores 🙂 Conductors often do so.
Seiji Ozawa conducted full symphonies without the sheet music for example.

This level of obsession about another person - any person for that matter - is nothing short of toxic and borderline neurotic. Just listen to the man’s music and stop analyzing every single thing he said and did, like he was Jesus. The guy even dresses like JW, he looks like an obsessed person. And he is supported in this obsession by some people like it was a normal thing. The amount of time and money he must be putting into worshiping another man is crazy. I really feel sorry for this guy for not finding something truly meaningful in his life other than worshiping a 92-year-old American composer.
Pathetic and revolting. Most irritating post of the year so far.

Congatulations. So, you are one of the few VIP customers.
I guess, next time I will also rather order at music box records.
VIP not really. Maybe I was lucky to order early enough. I'm sure you will get the chance to order again in the future.

That's dis-ap-poin-ting.
I'm sorry for you. Fortunately I received my copy yesterday, also from soundtrackcorner.de

The oscars are a farce. Who gives a damn sh.t? Invitations from the leading orchestras are much more important than all this academy awards bs. I doubt the Oppenheimer composer will ever conduct the Berlin Philharmonic (does he even conduct himself?).

I am feeling confused: are we getting the Blu-ray or not?
Right now only a CD release is announced. The video can be streamed though. No mention of a future Bluray release yet.

He usually conducts the marches (Superman, Raiders, Imperial) without the scores. He should know them by now

He looks exhausted...like any other conductor of that age.
He doesn't even bother to turn the pages of the score.
He looked much better/fitter in the Pittsburgh video from december. If I remember correctly it was very hot and humid in Japan so it's no wonder a 91 year old feels that. The white jacket makes him look older too.

Shipping to europe: 29 $
Are they dumb? That's ridiculous. A single disc costs 18 $ and two discs 29 $. Even though it has the same size. I'd call that rip-off.

-Scherzo for Motorcycle and Violin
-Anakin's Theme (for Violin)
-The Duel (for Violin and Cello, new arrangement 2023)

I have to say that I prefer the sound of the Silva release of Jane Eyre. The alternates are a great find and much welcomed. Especially the short source piece is fantastic and it's a pity it has to end so soon.
Heidi however sounds fantastic and better than the previous release that I own. All together it is a great release though. Hopefully more television work will be released in the future.

Does this rule apply to all Williams scores from 2005 onwards, except for Revenge of the sith, which was recorded in London?

Fortunately people like Leigh Phillips can reconstruct scores entirely by ear listening to the mixed film audio when necessary (see: The Salamander).Yavar
Yes that's possible, but a lot of work I would think.
I like how Williams reconstructed parts of it and created the suite. It's nice that he added brass to the arrangements.

Jane Eyre as such a fan favourite would really deserve a proper and complete re-recording.
Maybe someday...
Unfortunately the sheet music is lost.
