Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve placed my order. I’m sure there’s no reason to panic…. But we’ve been burned thinking that way before! I checked back with DG before I saw your post, and I just don’t think anyone knows anything there 😂

    Dear Mr. Wilson,

the deluxe edition of the John Williams in Tokyo album is a limited edition. However it is not released yet and not yet available for pre-order in European market.

    I hope this helps.

So there we have it. It was sold out this morning, I’ve placed my order this afternoon, but it’s important to bear in mind it’s not yet available for pre order 😂

It can be ordered on jpc.de

    I always order from there.

    Just saw this video:

And I noticed something: for this piece, John Williams is not using the sheet music to conduct the orchestra. The book where the sheets are supposed to be is closed:

Of course, Williams has conducted the Raiders March SO MANY TIMES since 1981 (and especially over the last 2 years) that he knows the piece top to bottom. Still, I think this is impressive, especially at his age.

For those of you who usually watch Williams' concerts: does he always conduct at least his most famous pieces without the sheets?

Yes, he also conducted Superman march, Imperial march and Throne room without the scores 🙂 Conductors often do so.

Seiji Ozawa conducted full symphonies without the sheet music for example.

He looks exhausted...like any other conductor of that age.

He doesn't even bother to turn the pages of the score.

He looked much better/fitter in the Pittsburgh video from december. If I remember correctly it was very hot and humid in Japan so it's no wonder a 91 year old feels that. The white jacket makes him look older too.

  4. I have to say that I prefer the sound of the Silva release of Jane Eyre. The alternates are a great find and much welcomed. Especially the short source piece is fantastic and it's a pity it has to end so soon.

Heidi however sounds fantastic and better than the previous release that I own. All together it is a great release though. Hopefully more television work will be released in the future.

Fortunately people like Leigh Phillips can reconstruct scores entirely by ear listening to the mixed film audio when necessary (see: The Salamander).

    Yavar

Yes that's possible, but a lot of work I would think.

I like how Williams reconstructed parts of it and created the suite. It's nice that he added brass to the arrangements.
