  1. Didn't read back all posts so don't know if this has been discussed before, here is my question: As the nazi action scene in the beginning takes place in france, why is it called "Germany 1944" on the soundtrack? Just a mistake?
  2. They surely would sound different, but all the notes would be exactly the same, because the cadenzas are written out and not improvised, like you said.
  3. None. He has arranged more than 20 titles already. He should rather focus on composing new music, celebratory pieces or concert music. Or even compose for a lower budget movie like he did for the Book Thief. We have enough ASM now. Helenas Theme should be the last one. Of course this is just my opinion.
  4. He prefers to conduct "Throne Room" instead. His programs become a bit too identical imo. So many great compositons to choose from, yet he always performs the same 20 titles.
  5. Well the title track is about 2 minutes or more solo piano. So that is all we need no?
  6. What happened to townerfan, why isn't he posting here anymore?
  7. Be happy that he even conducts something at the age of 91!
  8. Finally a concert without "Marion's Theme". Now he just needs to get rid of "Throne Room" too 😅
  9. So finally our german retailer can increase the price from 40 € to 69 €
  10. I wish this video would surface on YouTube. I also wish a Filmharmonic 1976 existed. Does anyone know about that? Btw. Please only post videos with Williams himself in this topic.
  11. Yes, all saturday except for Leia. With some minor edits (very few were needed honestly). I have both versions, Blueray and Livestream and have compared them in detail.
  12. He has toured Japan with the Pops in 1987, 1990 and 1993. So he knows the country quite good.
  13. Almost 5 hours of Boston Pops footage (I think 5 episodes of Evening at Pops) Evening at Pops with guest Andre Previn, playing the 1st movement of Gershwin's piano concerto
  14. I'm sure we will get a great documentary but I also expect most people here to be disappointed with it. I doubt that we will get so much new material we haven't seen before. But lets see.
  15. Didn't find a better topic for this and since it is the same newspaper: I came across this very old article while doing some research on Williams' concert at the White House in July 1985. The writer doesn't seem to be impressed by Williams. "(..)Williams did use the occasion to promote his own music, but he did not make the mistake that had been made July 4 in an all-Bernstein concert conducted by Leonard Bernstein. At no point did the audience have to wonder what was going on or why. Williams' music is not really better than Bernstein's, but it is more appropriate for an audience that is picnicking on the grass. Williams is a technically competent but not very imaginative composer, at his best when his invention is stimulated by the images he must accompany in a movie sound track. His music is not out of place on Pops programs, but yesterday he played rather a lot for a concert that lasted only an hour. Among the Williams pieces performed, the "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" and the "Cowboys" Overture sounded a bit like watered-down Copland, but they are pleasant, undemanding music and were well applauded (...)" https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1985/07/15/the-patriotic-pops/169290e9-d94b-4245-8cd9-6b53a1529faa/ Here is a photo from that event: https://www.upi.com/News_Photos/view/upi/b1f7539155315a7c0402ca6877b63088/Nancy-Reagan-Thanks-Boston-Pops-for-Performance/
  16. This would be great. Hopefully not only a 20 minutes documentary but 2 hours or more. We. Need. This.
