  1. Yes, he was shall we say... very generous with his description as I'm sure some of the less than "kind" fan reactions to some things can only be annoying. That said great analogy and very kind.
  2. Finally got a chance to just sit and listen to this. Another great episode of the podcast and @Jay it was great to hear you and your insights added to the mix this time! Your work on this board over the years has proven that you would be great at working on these releases and I hope it continues. I always enjoy the chats with Mike, @mahler3 & @TownerFan, and I always archive copies of these discussions along with my copies of the scores as I return to these episodes often, this will be no different. I particularly liked what was said about how podcasts like this break down the barrier between us who love these releases and those who work on them... hearing all of the inside bits (at least what we are allowed to know ) on how these releases are made is always a gratitude inducing moment for me for as it was said, it's a small miracle these happen and I can't agree more. Now to give Amistad another spin
  3. A New update nicknamed "Do it Rockapella" this time adding the state or country playing a bit of Where in the World is Maestro John Williams. When possible I've added the State or Country in which the entry takes place. Also some formatting updates with more to come and of course new and updated entries. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing Lastly I've added stats panel that will give live updates on the number of entries of each type.
  4. Yeah, reading Maurizio's article on the Symphony - https://thelegacyofjohnwilliams.com/2019/10/08/john-williams-early-concert-works/ it mentions, the same as you did, he was at the London concert with Herrman but nothing the night before. Yet another mystery
  5. @Omen II Do we know if Williams was in attendance for the first night?
  6. Thanks @Omen II I'll get those integrated into the timeline for the next update!
  7. I’m not sure but that’s why I wanted to download them to find out 😊
  8. Apologies if this has been posted already but I was looking at McCreary's Rings of Power from last year and the links no longer work from the main post... it looks like they changed the structure or more accurately the domain. they went from https://amazon-interactive.dmlib.io/ to https://www.consideramazon.com I've rejigged the links to the new structure/domain here's a new version
  9. Ouch... that one still hurts, traumatic memories So glad more folks got a copy of Dial!
  10. AHH @Jay You have found me out! Yeah, all of these things are true and is something I need to spend some time on. I said in my last post that And you found several glaring reason's why I think it needs to happen ... I've spent so much time cramming as much info in as I can that it's time to do a pass on the presentation and organizational side of things. Another thing that happens is that this is a copy and paste from my master copy where I do all the work and it's not pulling the font weights across as it should... really only the work names should be bold and the rest of the entry is regular font size... I'm looking at a way to import all of this in future updates. For example in the public copy here's part of 2015 Vs my working copy Much easier to scan names visually when everything isn't bold just the names. That and somehow several fonts have crept into the live copy that make it look like a muddied mess as well. So yeah long way to say You are absolutely right and I'm already on it LOL I've already implemented the personal event vs other event types in the working copy.
  11. Wow this one is hard... Two powerhouses both with LSO recordings.... I do love them both... but Yeah I'm with @Thor It's the Fury if only by a bit. Indeed it's the intensity mixed with that "melodic gift" just shines here! A good as Dracula is the Fury just has more oomph and more variation to it. Is it hypocritical to choose The Fury when I'm listening to Dracula right now??
  12. A New update to the Chronology project. We've gone from 932 lines in the first version shared (10 days ago) to now having 2,440+ This time adding Interviews listed on JWFan. Events listed in news and misc categories on JWFan Film and TV Premier dates that contain Williams compositions Pulled in and added/updated every Boston Pops concert I could export from the BSO archive (over 600 entries with Williams conducting) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing Some formatting to come as well as still looking at categorizations and other suggestions I've received. Plus of course still lots to find and add
  13. I agree I've noticed some have it and some don't.... It's on the list Also agree, trying to decide if other conductors should be in the list, I think just the ones where Williams was present at the very least should make the cut. So many things to add... so little time
  14. Another Update - This time focusing on updating OST's, adding/updating Pops & BSO albums, adding/updating work premiers and a slicer fix OST's - These looked a little sad after the expanded editions were put in there so it was time for an update. Each has release dates some format info as well as links to their release group on Music Brainz for those wanting to dig deeper. Pops & BSO albums - I added as much info as I could from liner notes and the BSO site Compilations - albums going back to the early 2000's were added. Work Premiers - were updated and added Slicer issue fixed - The slicer no longer disappears when you use it All told, Many upgrades to existing lines and over 240 new lines added https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing Next up some missing concert works and hopefully more interviews.
  15. @Jay There are Filters and there are Slicers. For both options it is a similar setup. Go to the Data menu and choose one of the options (pictured below) It basically has you choose your field ranges / choose a column to use as the filter. Filters and Slicer do very similar things except you cannot have merged cells in the column with filters (hence why the chronology sheet has a slicer). Filters also sit at the top of the column where a Slicer can be placed anywhere on the sheet. Another win for the Slicer is that you can change it to use different columns after it has been created or even just create multiple slicers. Their use and function after that is very similar.
  16. Absolutely! There is a metric ton of info here... there are going to be typos and out of orders Yeah I've been thinking on the categories a bit... this could work as I'm having the same issue.
  17. Thanks everyone for the input. Loving it! Another update today... I've added not only the items from @Miguel Andrade and @QuartalHarmony but also added a bunch of concert work / Non Film related releases, premiers etc. The biggest addition today should help with sorting through the sheer amount of entries. I've added a slicer to the sheet that will let you filter and only see different entry types. It's the red interface in the top right corner and should look like this You can click on it and choose your type and it will show you just those items. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing
  18. Another Big update pushed... This one I will affectionately call the "Expanded Fruit Loops" Update... Focusing mostly on getting all of the expanded Editions taken care of from the mid 90's to now as well as after @Holko's suggestion that we try some color coding Ive tried just that (hence the Fruit Loops comment) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing
  19. Wow @Holko Amazing work... can't wait to go through it!
  20. To borrow a phrase - "Amen to that"!
  21. @The Lost Folio Let me start off with saying I absolutely agree here... in fact I've started adding these to newer additions. This started just as a "for me" kind of thing just to see the data and was never going to be "academic" but I started wanting more info on pieces and have started adding some links in where I can... NOW the "fun" ie: tedious part would be going back and finding all the sources again For some items like the recording dates we have things like the liner notes we can source. But for a lot of it we really only have digtal sources at this point and have the complication of the fact that the internet changes all the time. Sources become available and disappear all the time. I'm sure @Ricard @Jay and others run into this where linking back to sources break after awhile, be it Youtube videos, Site redesigns, or content removed sites change. A good example and I think it's been handled well on JWfan is if you look at the expanded releases page on the main site. If you go back in that list to 2011-2012 and before they are all linked to external sources... Now in 2023 some of those links still work and some don't which means we've "lost" some of the data from those sources. After that you will notice every link goes to a JWfan source that archives the content. That's a great solution for a site like this but for a sheet like this project may be problematic and also why the vast majority of my new links are going to JWfan as these guys have already done the work Another hiccup and illustration of the changing internet/first party sources I'm trying to overcome is best served with an example. Sticking with recording dates. The dates for Raiders aren't in a what I would call easy to point to first party source. They aren't in the liner notes for the DCC edition nor the 2008 Concord (if you want to call what was in that version liner notes). Here's the issue, The LSO published all of their recording sessions online several years ago and we were able to get the dates for Raiders and other LSO recordings. That online resource is now gone (from my understanding) and only some back linked sources that are hard to confirm as official from an academic sense remain. Basically yeah I would love to have more sourcing in the document just struggling with how to source some pieces. Another Example, I got all of the Evening at Pops recording dates from the Pops site... How long will that page stay online? @Holko I tried it early on but it didn't seem to bring anything but more formatting time to the table. That said, now that the sheet is getting more "complicated" for lack of a better term, it may be time to revisit... I'll try it on a few years and see what it does. I'm also currently testing some more formatting working with the expanded releases so that may help as well. Thanks!
  22. Ok just pushed a big update Mostly adding a whole bunch more recording sessions dates.... Lots more to come. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sgepya2i8LU2TPesQRGltWtQJ7yNXDCOubwqDKqwg4I/edit?usp=sharing
  23. Possible but I can say for certain it's not mentioned in the Star Wars Special issue [Vol2 Number 1].. At least in the track analysis Here's what it says about the track again by Matessino
  24. I'm happy for any input! @Holko I'm certainly game for that... Not sure how we don't step on each others toes but it could work! Really I just wanted to offer up what I've done so far if it helps anyone. To be fair this isn't even my master copy as that is housed in what I've lovingly nicknamed my Williams MEGA Sheet that has records of all the releases (no where near as detailed as Bespin's Discography just a place to keep track of what release has what, sources recording dates etc.) I've also been working on a listing of orchestra members and marking which scores they played on so we can visually see how the makeup of some of these great organizations have changed over the years. It also houses links to all of the digitized liner notes I've been working on that contain both searchable text copies of ever Williams liner note in my collection as well as PDF copies of ones I can source the images for (I haven't gotten brave enough to flatted spines for scanning my own yet) as well as copies of all of the amazing sheets @Jay has been so kind to share with us over the years (linked back to his originals of course ) @Ricard Very kind words! I'm just glad we could get a start on this idea you brought up. @Thor I do agree that Tim's book is going to be an excellent resource and will absolutely have a huge plethora of information that will be a joy to dig through. I think the merits here have more to do with being able to see the raw data at a glance and for me it's thrilling to start piecing together each year, which is half the fun, and when you look at it realize just how much Williams does and how all the pieces fit together... awards ceremonies with recording the next day and concerts and interviews the list goes on. I think Tim's book is going to be something to experience and dive into where it will tell us the stories and anecdotes from the people that were there giving us a sense of the emotion of it all where something like this takes that data and gives us the 50 thousand foot view where we can at a glance an idea of what his life has been like and frankly is still like... Look at 2023! whew that is one busy 91 year old! That said any info/feedback etc. from you is always appreciated I've always wished I could keep in my head the info that you and @Miguel Andrade have always seemed to have at your fingertips.... that's part of why I even wanted to do this project. HA HA! Thanks @Jurassic Shark! Yeah I think Tim Greiving both has that covered and is infinitely more qualified then I would ever hope to be
