enderdrag64 reacted to DarthDementous in OBI-WAN KENOBI - spoilers allowed for all aired episodes
The original plan for when "Obi Wan Kenobi" was still a movie was an adaptation of the EU novel "Kenobi". Here's a synopsis of it:
And here's the synopsis TMZ reported back in 2018 (apologies for the weird phrasing, TMZ is an odd publication) https://www.tmz.com/2018/05/17/obi-wan-kenobi-star-wars-story-movie-plot-director-production/:
This is completely 1 to 1 with the novel, so that's my proof it was originally planned to be an adaptation of it
The novel is fantastic, highly recommend checking it out, especially the audiobook version read by Jonathan Davis who does a masterful Obi Wan voice

enderdrag64 reacted to FrankV in James Horner's WILLOW (1988) - NEW! 2022 2-CD Intrada Records
Some tidbids:
- Disc 1 has 13 tracks and is 55 minutes long, disc 2 has 5 tracks and is 52 minutes long.
- Sled race cue closes disc 1
- "Bavmorda's Spell Is Cast" is still 18 minutes
- There's a 20 second cue missing
- Some of the source music couldn't be found

Man, I just realized this soundtrack is less than an hour and a half long. I can't believe this. For Bad Batch, we got two volumes, and each one was two hours long.

You’re not going to find an official source for the Rogue One stuff. I will say that the three people who I’ve heard talk about it have been well sourced, industry workers, and completely legitimate (one of whom was a 20-year user here who recently deleted their account; another an unrelated industry source at FSM; and third, Doug Adams who would not be telling these tales out of school). If that’s what James Southall is on about, I’d trust all three of those sources over him.
If he’s talking about the Holt situation, I’d probably trust Southall over a JWFan user picked at random, but who knows. I noticed and liked plenty of score by both Holt and Ross in the series and I look forward to hearing it, regardless of how the sausage was made.

She didn't mention William Ross once in all the media fanfare prior to the show (possibly due to an NDA, who knows), then promoted her own ghostwriters on social media after the first episode without acknowledging Ross (who scored nearly half of the show), said "George Lucas" told her not to use themes, and said that her composer journey was more similar to Giacchino's and Powell's rather than Goransson's. Maybe she thinks it was similar to them because of the JW theme, but the problem is, her portions of the score barely used it. I would certainly feel sick if I was getting all the media attention for a score in which the final product is only ~50 percent~ mine.

Indeed. And these were 2 volumes of both 2 hours of music

What's the official explanation for only offering one volume, anyways? Or for not offering way more music than this, in general? It's a digital-only release, so it's not like they had to worry about fitting it on CD.
It just sort of blows my mind that a few mere months ago, when volume 1 of Boba Fett dropped, we got practically all the highlights thus far except for the catchy train conductor droid music—which was then rectified when it was released as a bonus track on volume 2.
Why should a random show about Boba Fett hanging out on Tatooine get better/more soundtrack releases than the "Episode 3.5" show that features Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader? It makes no sense. Compared to this album, we were apparently really spoiled with what they gave us for Mando and Boba Fett. Heck, even season 1 of Bad Batch got two volumes...

enderdrag64 reacted to crumbs in Natalie Holt's OBI-WAN KENOBI (2022)
All unreleased :/
I'm still filthy the final 5 minutes of the final episode wasn't even included. What a perfect album ending that would've been!
As predicted, Saying Goodbye only covers Obi's final scene with Leia. None of the fantastic material with him leaving his cave, visiting the Lars Homestead or seeing Qui Gon is included.
It's a shame William Ross can't just put out his own album containing the music he composed for the series. Musically it's a lot more interesting than Holt's material.

Wait a minute… What about episode 3? Where’s the big Ross cue that covers Vader/Obi-Wan dueling, Tala/Leia running through the tunnels, and Reva searching for Leia???
Does this album really not include the music for when Obi-Wan and Vader first meet/duel again, after ten years?!
I should note that this was also the first major cue that we figured out was Ross, aside from the standard variations on the Obi-Wan theme.

enderdrag64 reacted to Edmilson in OBI-WAN KENOBI - spoilers allowed for all aired episodes
Exactly. I think the writers made the Emperor tell Vader to stop hunting for Obi-Wan just because Kenobi is alive in the canon for the next nine years. Because, in-universe there's no logical reason for the Empire to give up on him.
Why would the Emperor, who is determined to purge the galaxy from all Jedi, let one of the most powerful and important members of the Jedi Order alive?
It would make sense if the Empire thought Obi was dead. He could've fake his own death during the confrontation with Vader, and then enjoy his next 9 years as he wanted.
The way it was written seemed like a lazy way of connecting the show with ANH.

enderdrag64 reacted to Edmilson in What are your non-Williams film score holy grails now in 2022?
It's a fine cue, but most of it was already released on the OST.
To clarify things, for the final battle and the epilogue of Avatar, Horner wrote five cues (plus their inserts):
9M3R War - It accompanies most of the battle between the Na'Vi and the humans, and it was mostly used as intended in the final movie (only a small part at the end went unused). IIRC, almost all of the cue is on the OST track of the same name. 9M4R The Battle Continues - Written for the "darkest hour" of the battle, when the humans are winning the fight and slaughtering the Na'Vi. Most of it was unused in the movie, though, and replaced with tracked music from 7M2 The Destruction of the Hometree. 9M5R Quaritch Down - Starts heroically when all the Pandoran wildlife joins the fight against the humans and turn the tides of the battle. It also accompanies Jake destroying Quaritch's ship and the villain escaping on his Aliens-like mecha suit, which Horner scored with Aliens-like music. Parts of the cue, however, were replaced with bombastic choir music from 9M3 War, which may explain why it wasn't officially released. 10M1R Fight to the Death - The final confrontation between Jake, Neytiri and Quaritch. It has one insert and one unused beginning, and it was officially released as "The Death of Quaritch" on the Deluxe edition of the soundtrack album. 10M2 A New Beginning - Neytiri saves Jake's life after the fight, and the epilogue. Most of it was on the final minutes of the OST track War. -

enderdrag64 reacted to LSH in Natalie Holt's OBI-WAN KENOBI (2022)
I think we'll never find out why this whole thing was such a fuck up.
But I can guarantee you... that the person who has 'come last', in relative terms, and the unsung hero in all of this, is William Ross. The one person that the majority of us was hoping would completely score the fucking thing in the first place.
I like John Williams' theme. But it is waaaaaay over-used. Which reflects badly on William Ross (with that awkward "Kenobi Theme Adapted By" credit) against the fact that a substantial proportion of the entire score is completely his... and I don't need validation on that because you can fucking hear it. Holt's and Ross' contributions are like chalk and cheese, and frankly I think it's cruel and unfair to everybody involved.
And that is [probably] the last thing I have to say on the matter. Because I'm bored of it all now.

Not sure if this warrants its own thread, so feel free to combine it with another!
During the Kennedy Center pre-concert talk, Williams just revealed that Indy 5 will begin recording this coming Tuesday morning, at 10 AM to be precise.
So exciting!

With all these special effects and sceneries and repetitive conversations and Fights and references and Fan service they try to cover up that with Leia, Luke, Vader and Obi-Wan there is hardly any story to tell. Episode 3 left us at the end concerning these characters pretty much there, where the story could be picked up again in episode 4.
A pure Obi-Wan adventure with Reva hunting him made sense. Bringing in that Leia plot didn't. Bringing in these meetings and fights with Vader didn't. It appeared just as a lush repetition of the reunion of Vader and Asoka from Rebels.

But Powell quoted significant amounts of legacy material in Solo (really well, I must add; I discover more little hidden phrases with each Iisten).
Why would this show have been different?

Poor John Williams, there's so much better stuff he could've done with these six hours, like writing another concert, scoring Indy V or just playing golf.

So is Williams suggesting that in the event that he had scored the entire show himself, he would only have used his legacy themes in Episode 6 and "a certain few other places".
Yeah right.

enderdrag64 got a reaction from Tom Guernsey in What are your non-Williams film score holy grails now in 2022?
This would probably never happen but I'd love to see a complete release of Murray Gold's score for his seasons on Doctor Who (2005-2017). There's some absolutely fantastic music he wrote for that series that hasn't seen the light of day. There are some pretty excellent fan rips from some of the blu-rays that are available that while they are largely clean, many cues are still riddled with sfx and it would nice to hear the score as it was actually recorded.
Also I'd love to see some official expansions for some of the Star Wars animated shows, particularly the Clone Wars. I think there's a lot of great music for that too that hasn't been released. Even the latest season that got official albums for every arc still has tons of great music unreleased.
