All of Williams' scores through at least Harry Potter 2 captured every take of every cue onto analog tape (with minor exceptions like the album recording day for ET).

Every Williams score from The Force Awakens to present no longer has analog tape running at all.

The 13 scores in between?  An unsolved mystery for now.  The only 2 of those that have been expanded are Harry Potter 3 and War of The Worlds, and a 1st generation digital element was used for each.

This Reddit AMA confirms AOTC had analog, and ROTS was digital only

I would actually love a monthly release of all nine-films, mostly because I guess they might want to put more music this way. Plus I would be able to keep my two kidney

It's funny how modern audiences and filmmakers misunderstand the very concept of music in Star Wars. It's not meant to keep up with modern trends, it's supposed to offer counterpoint to all the technical advancements. It was old fashioned 45 years ago!

It's very unlikely that it's anything more than this since the original announcement listed it as a collaboration with JW and Deutsch Grammophon (both of which are covered by the video).

I'm quite saddened that Netflix didn't really make a FYC score for Yoko Kanno's Cowboy Bebop. Having seen the show, I'm aware that it wasn't that great so I understand them not endorsing it for awards, but the music was one of the highlights along with the main cast.
Having unreleased music in FYC form, at least for an entire episode like Amazon Prime does for its shows nowadays , would have been much more helpful to deal with the unpleasant job of manually splitting and come up with over a hundred made up titles for the (near) complete score of the season they posted on YouTube...

At least, I'm happy it got out in some form and that we've got more than just the OST...

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this is.  A fluent Japanese speaker on twitter read the message and thinks it's an actual full-on collaboration (as opposed to it being something "lost in Google Translate").
A John Williams Anime is a crazy idea but I can't think of a more appropriate choice than for a show than one meant to introduce young people to music.

I came across this. I am not familiar with any of this, so I had to do a bit more research. This comes from deputy editor-in-chief at Shogakukan. Sho Kobayashi confirmed the news easily enough after sharing their congratulations for Blue Orchestra overall. This is a surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one!

    Translation:

    What!!
    "Blue Orchestra" has been animated!!
You can actually listen to the performance scenes of the violin and orchestra along with youth-like stories...! I'm looking forward to expressing sounds such as classical masterpieces from now on.
In commemoration of the gorgeous collaboration and animation, you can read 30 episodes for free with the app now, so I'm looking forward to working with you.

Planning with the master John Williams, who works on movie music such as "STAR WARS" and "Jurassic Park" and the largest classical label, German Gramophone, is also underway!

“I am working on the project with John Williams, the master composer behind Star Wars and Jurassic Park. I wish I could tell my younger self in high school orchestra club who used to play John's theme for E.T. that I'd be working with him in the future.”

So here's the deal. Opinions such as these are perfectly valid to post:

And nobody here should ever make people feel they can't share opinions such as that!

HOWEVER, it is not implied that this therefore gives anyone free reign to repeatedly, in close proximity to each other within a thread, continually be negative about something over and over again.  We actually have a clause in the rules about a persistent negative attitude.  Again, negative opinions are absolutely allowed, but you cannot be surprised or offended if you make a series of negative posts in a single thread, and that then people might want to speak up and defend the subject matter at hand.  As a general rule of thumb, what tends to be the procedure is, once you have stated a negative opinion, you can back out and let people who enjoy the thing that you have a negative opinion on enjoy it, instead of continually returning to repeat your negative opinion.  In this particular case, it might have made more sense to start a new thread discussing Giacchino's body of work instead of cluttering up a thread where people are just trying to talk about one particular score of his.

    Additionally, statements like this?

That's closer to just straight up libel than an opinion which deserves to be protected here.  I would give you the benefit of the doubt and just say you are being very passionate about your opinions on him in general, however your followup posts paint a more clearer picture that to me reads like you just wanted to come in here and make a bold claim to purposely get people riled up and have a heated debate with you about Giacchino.  Just look at how combative you get in all these followup posts:

I think that your reactions to what others are saying are consistently kicking things up a notch from the tone others have, and feels to me like an attempt to bring everyone up to a combative level, when nobody else was trying to do that at all.

To be clear, it's completely valid and on topic to debate the merits of The Batman's score, good and bad, in this thread, and it's perfectly fine to discuss Giacchino's body of work, good and bad, maybe not necessarily in this thread, but on this forum in general.  Everybody should feel they are allowed to post negative opinions about his body of work and positive opinions about his body of work.  You don't need to make up claims about what he is trying to be to do so, and you don't need to call every opinion different than yours an "attack".

Finally, this idea you attempt to make?

I have to stop you right there and say: NO, no no!  First of all, we are not a forum consisting of some group-think mentality that everything JW does is perfect gold, and everything every other composer does is lesser.  We are a forum full of independent people with their own independent opinions of JW and other's works, and every opinion is allowed to be shared here.

Sure, the forum started in 1999 as a forum dedicated to the works of John Williams, but of course in the 23 years since it has evolved into a full film music discussion forum where everyone can talk about any score they want.  It is not a requirement to like the music of John Williams to use our forum!

Sure, many of us do think he's the best composer ever (myself included), but that does not mean I have to look down on every other composer just because they aren't as good as him.

So yes, people are absolutely allowed to love the music of Giacchino, or even consider him the best composer ever, on this John Williams forum!  Again - all opinions are valid!

So to wrap up, I think it's time to return this thread to being specifically about The Batman's score - there's still alot to discuss about it.

If people want to have a civilized discussion about Giacchino's body of work, absolutely feel free to do so in a thread dedicated to such a thing, and in that thread, everyone should be respectful of other's opinions, but also should not make bold claims that can't be backed up or repeat the same things ad nauseum that don't let an actual discussion happen organically.

    Thanks!

    @enderdrag64
Sean Callery isn't some no-name composer and he's done some great things, but I do agree with you here that the music sounds like it was temped with every generic synth score ever. As a fan of Callery's work on Jessica Jones, I was hoping for some more introspective and meaty music that felt unique to Halo.

@enderdrag64 They are re-recordings. The end credits of the documentary includes credits for the composer and others that worked on the new arrangements. There are other documentaries that use these same arrangements but re-recorded yet again. I've always liked the end credits arrangement, particularly the very ending.

Wow I'm surprised this thread doesn't have more replies. I guess there really aren't that many anime fans on this forum.

A couple other shows with excellent music that haven't been mentioned yet are the music for Dr. STONE by Tatsuya Kato, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and Yuki Kanesaka, and the score to Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba by Yuki Kajiura, and Go Shiina.

You can't really call Dr. STONE a score because very few tracks are written for specific scenes, rather most of the music was written ahead of time as a collection of cues with certain moods or feelings, and then was applied to the show later in editing. Even so, many of the tracks are absolutely beautiful, with Some Primal Survival Gourmet, The Return of Chrome, STONE WORLD, and Fantasy vs. Science coming to mind as particular standouts.

I made a playlist a while back with most of the music in the order it first appears in the show (like I said most cues appear in multiple episodes):

Kimetsu no Yaiba on the other hand does have a proper score with many recurring motifs and is also absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately though, as far as I know it's not legally available for streaming/purchase outside of Japan so it's rather difficult to get your hands on. Fortunately on the other hand, due to its insane popularity, nearly its entire complete score has been released across a bunch of different promo albums, assuming you can find them:
