On the one hand I am glad Matessino sprinkled the ROTJ inserts throughout the 2CD set so we actually have them instead of them still being unreleased. But on the other hand its yet another reason we really, REALLY need a DEFINITIVE 2CD (3CD?) set made that contains EVERYTHING, in the best sound possible, to the standard the specialty labels have set and followed in the past 5-10 years.

enderdrag64 reacted to crumbs in Lincoln SCORE Discussion thread
Safe to say you're bored in isolation when you assemble a complete score spreadsheet for Lincoln, but hopefully this saves someone else the trouble. Enjoy! Huge thanks to @BrotherSound for providing the complete cue list and breakdown of OST/FYC, which made this spreadsheet possible.

    A few interesting discoveries:
Other than source music (which is plentiful) only 3 film cues remain in the film that are entirely unreleased (clips available in spreadsheet) I suspect at least two of 7M54 “To Ford’s Theatre”, 7M54 Rev “To Ford’s Theatre” and 7M54 Rev New Ending were recorded, based on the fact this cue was replaced by tracked music in the final cut (7M52 Ver 6 Trumpet Version) I suspect all versions of 7M52 were recorded because 3 turned up between the OST & FYC (and, like 7M54, the final film replaced Williams' intended versions with something else) Several cue titles correspond with scenes that remain in the final cut, indicating lots of Williams underscore which went unused Seems there were a couple of deleted scenes early in the film which Williams scored (2M12 “Talk With Tad," 2M14 “Tad Asleep”) unless these scenes were originally in reel 2 and later moved to reel 1 (and re-scored with 1M14 “Sleeping Tad” / 1M14 Ver 2 “Sleeping Tad”)

I actually like quite a bit of the early Clone Wars music. The best was when it was experimental.
The music sounds a lot better when it isn't trying to emulate an orchestra with synths but instead tries something new:

I think it is possible to enjoy all sorts of music for all sorts of reasons. There's no one who writes symphonic music like John Williams these days, no one disputes that. It's not even about talent, people are not being trained in the same wa or use same tools. It's just what it is.

But it's also difficult to compare the popularity of Williams to someone like Zimmer as this is not necessarily the same type of crowd. I have no problem liking both, they have nothing in common so I get at least some variety.

Giacchino is a good dramatist and, by all accounts, very good person to work with. And he clearly has interest in other filmmaking aspects so that makes him an ideal collaborator. It is not a surpise he's in demand.

    Can't we just be friends?

Apparently there are two cues on Daniel Futcher website who's an additional composer of The King's Man
How Dare You (2mX) and Helmet Orchestra
Don't recall to have seen them in the FYC/Complete score

Kinda makes me wish they hadn't used Palpatine in TROS and saved him for this series instead. Would be nice to see new scenes between Vader and Palpatine (with or without James Earl Jones doing the voice).

As a huge Zimmer fan, not only is this article not Zimmer bashing, I am glad someone wrote it and has the guts to say what is needed. I remember arguing with someone on FSM and he insisted that Giacchino and Tyler and other composers don't ghostwrite the way Zimmer does. They do. I am tired of traditional film music fans derailing every Zimmer thread by saying "but he probably didn't write that." Guess what? Your favorite composer didn't write every one of his or her cues either. And I am also tired of people saying Zimmer should put his additional composers on the cover and doesn't apply the same logic to other composers. Bear McCreary worked with like 7 composers on foundation. He has a company called Sparks and Shadows and some of his previous interns now works for Zimmer. He never credits anyone.

I'm a Bond fan and followed a lot of the prerelease publicity interviews for No Time To Die including those with Zimmer. There were a number of interviews where he was asked about the score and was keen to acknowledge Steve Mazzaro as a major contributor even if he wasn't mentioned by the interviewer.

I'm not the biggest fan of Zimmer's attitude at times but at least he had the right approach with acknowledging Mazzaro at every opportunity. This also leads to be suspect that Zimmer's composing involvement for that score was negligible. Most likely just provided the general direction and let Mazzaro drive and manage the day to day work.

I understand the department comparison. While it is true of Production Design and Costume Design - I think music is most similar to script-writing.

It has always been thought to be essentially one person's creation.

We generally perceive of classic musical - or symphonic music - for centuries now - to be written by a person.

Just like we have perceived literature - generally - to be written by a person.

The problem with Film Music - is the advertisement. It is still undoubtedly advertised as being a singular creation. When it is not.

I have no quarrel with the model. The model is ... let's just say.. inevitable.

What's important is the broadcasting the reality of it and generating awareness.

Basically these co-composers should exist, not arguing against their existence, but they should exist more prominently - on covers, and in movie credits, and on award nominations, and on streaming apps etc.

The point is the injustice - with literally that composer claiming she was literally on the streets due to lack of credit.

They deserve credit so that they can have a better life, better jobs. It is almost a case of survival for some of these composers.

Ghost composers should be called composers and required to appear on main credits, end credits, cd covers and track listing; unless the composer group forms a boy band or something and they prefer that.

They should get the bloody oscar nomination too because that is what is going to get them the next jobs and the best jobs and higher pay and better working conditions.

Isn't it outrageous that Zimmer - he is likely to win - will head alone on to the stage of the academy awards and receive laurels for composing the score for Dune?

Think how transformative it would be for some other composers if they are standing beside him on that stage accepting the laurels as co-creators of the work.
