The article is clearly not meant as a value judgment on the Zimmer approach to the music itself, which after all is really just a modern "outsourced contractor" version of the golden age studio music departments.  There's nothing really wrong with this if only credits were clear and fair.  Being a film/tv composer of prominence today requires essentially being a small business owner, which is not something all these creative types are cut out for.  A company like RCP, if it were run more fairly and transparently, could do a lot of good providing the infrastructure and bureaucracy necessary for a composer to carry out the job.  But that's a big "if."

"The Peterson House and Finale" is full of repeats

2:44-3:14 was already heard in track #4 1:19-1:47
3:14-5:43 was already heard in track #1 0:37-3:09
    8:26-9:29 was already heard in track #4 2:20-3:09 / 3:44-end
9:29-10:31 was already heard in track #5 0:00-1:01

(and by repeats, I truly mean the exact same recording/take assembly)

The only good takeaway from digital become the new standard is that hopefully one day the concept of limiting albums to 80 minutes will be abandoned. For almost an entire century film albums have been condensed strictly because more music couldn't fit on one or two LP's (and later CD's), and it's become so commonplace that some people have simply become complacent and even go so far as to defend this unnecessary tradition (sorry @Thor )

...and program instead a silly alien language song, a post main title musical sequence that leans heavily on a theme from the preceeding film, a hybrid concert version / suspense cue that doesn't do much musically, an action cue that was revised to lean heavily on past themes from the franchise, another cue that leans heavily on a new theme already well served by a concert track on the same album and finally another silly alien langauge song with giggling chipmunk voices (rather than the vastly superior version actually used in the film).

    Worst JW OST ever.

This is actually an idea that's sort of touched on by KOTOR 2. It probably would have been expanded on by the third game, had it not been cancelled and replaced by SWTOR.
To quote an exchange from KOTOR 2 between the Exile and Kreia: (spoilers)

Well, now that we got expansions for both anthology films, plus even the games and shows are getting extensive albums now, there's no doubt in my mind that JW himself was the only factor holding expansions of his scores back. And if when Mike Matessino said that "everyone knows they should happen" he was also referring to JW, then I think the only factor holding these releases back now is just due to the amount of time in which it will take to assemble them. I would not at all be surprised if they've been working on something for a while now, and it's just taking a long time due to the massive girth of material.

On the contrary, I hope it sells well and turns a tidy profit. Then maybe someone at Disney Records with two brain cells will realise they could give JW's scores the same treatment for an even higher price.

    $75 x 5000 units = $375,000. There's your AFM fees accounted for right there.

Though I can't help being frustrated seeing Disney licence this stuff to Mondo for deluxe collector's edition vinyl sets, while hoarding JW's scores and doing nothing with them, when Intrada/LLL would KILL to get their hands on just one of his SW or Indy scores for a deluxe CD collector's set.

I just checked the DVD/BD menus and it isn't there. Maybe it plays in one of the Blu-Ray bonus features?

    DVD:
    intro: Krennic's Aspirations (2:19-2:24)
    main menu: Confrontation on Eadu (7:00-7:10, 7:11-7:13, 7:13-7:19, 7:20-7:22, 7:26-7:33, 7:35-7:41, 7:42-7:44, 7:46-7:54)
scene selection: Hearts of Kyber (0:05-0:48)
    set up: AT-ACT Assault (0:09-0:34, 0:38-0:54)
    subtitles: Cargo Shuttle SW-0608 (0:00-0:25, 0:59-1:14)
    languages: Rogue One (0:00-0:31.5, 0:39-0:48)

    BD:
    main menu: Confrontation on Eadu (7:00-7:10, 7:11-7:13, 7:13-7:19, 7:20-7:22, 7:26-7:33, 7:35-7:41, 7:42-7:44, 7:46-7:54)

Also, is there a thread for writing down the music used in DVD/BD menus like this?

While I haven't used those words, I'll say that my overall view of the show was more optimistic while there were still more episodes to go. I still had some hope that it would all somehow come together in a really great way. For me, that didn't end up happening. In retrospect the show feels like a hodgepodge of quasi-related elements, some of which were pretty cool but none of which involved a character recognizable as Boba Fett. I still have no idea why he miraculously transformed from a disintegration-prone bounty hunter and Imperial collaborator into a benevolent protector of the planet where one of his old bosses was headquartered. He emerged from the sarlacc as a changed man, which would be totally cool if they'd connected the dots in a way that made sense. For me they didn't.

He just got stabbed in the chest by Boba. That is not enough to kill a villain. As we know, Boba Fett was eaten up by the sarlak and survived, Darth Maul was cut in half and fell into a deep abyss and survived, Darth Sidious was thrown into an abyss and exploded with the second Death Star into space... and SURVIVED!!! So, I think, Cad Bane's wound is just a scratch in terms of Star Wars villain injuries. I am sure Count Dooku picked up his head, escaped and prepares together with General Grievous his return somewhere in the galaxy.

    Here's what should've happened:
Keep Mando and his storyline out of BoBF. It majorly sidelined any focus on Boba towards the Mandalorian. What's strange is how what we're seeing of Mando's story is almost entirely related to his past series and should've been saved for Season 3.
Cad Bane is introduced or teased earlier and is the main antagonist of Boba throughout the season. Bane was a mentor of sorts to Boba for a time and in the second episode of his return, he gets killed off?!?!? What a waste!
Ditch the awful biker gang. They are completely and utterly inappropriate for this show and how they relate to Boba. They don't seem to fit with the established aesthetic of Tatooine. Their power ranger bikes are ridiculous.
Cobb Vanth and Boba Fett interact, Vanth tests Boba to see if he is worthy of the armour. The two become friends. Why waste a good character and the history of them both sharing the armour?
Boba Fett, not Fennec Shand, kills the remaining Pyke syndicate as revenge for their slaughter of the Tuskens! Why do we get a hurried scene of Fennec killing them? It's shit.

First of all, great to see more expanded/complete(?) Star Wars scores released! Here's hoping for more, in the proper format.

I have mixed feelings about this score, for various reasons... The inconsistency of Giacchino applying the Williams template (for me) is nicely demonstrated by these two contrasting passages:

    (1:30 - 1:38)

The strings are very busy here creating a ramp-up of tension, but somehow the actual notes sound kind of random to me, and in the end it lands in exactly the same harmonic place as it started, making it feel kind of static.

    Compare this:

    (0:41 - 0:51)

Here, the climbing string lines have an actual purpose and reach a new target at the end, modulating to a new key (twice!) - nicely adapting the sound of ANH's Imperial Attack escape sequence. I actually really like the climactic combination of Vader's theme and Death Star motif.

    Hello folks

I'm new to score-specific threads, as so far I've only been a lurker and made an account only to make contributions to the 2021 FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION Thread.

I see a lot of people missing to list all alternates and differences between the various releases and I think my contributions might be helpful.
Before going in, I have to admit that my ability to name specific instruments if pretty awful so don't be surprised if I wrongly call a trumpet or violin a different instrument and I apologize in advance.

    Here we go:

Original Soundtrack / For Your Consideration Promo differences (not counting short crossfade edits)

2m14b Jedha City Ambush Album has Original Version FYC is labelled as Film Version: short edit + added guitar / synth (?) insert in the opening 5m30 Rebellion Are Built on Hope Album has Original Version: has quieter trumpet (?), more integrated with the orchestra [1:09-1:39] FYC is labelled as Film Version: louder trumpet (?) insert / different take [1:09-1:39]  6m43 The Master Switch Album has Original Version: full violin (?) insert, starts at 2:21 FYC is labelled as Film Version: shorter violin (?) insert starts at 2:32
Other FYC tracks labelled as Film Versions:
     - 3m20 Today of All Days
     - 3m22 An Imperial Test of Power
     - 4m26 No Trust Among Rebels
     - 7m44 We Have to Press the Attack

For Your Consideration Promo / Expanded Soundtrack differences of aforementioned additional Film Version tracks
This is just a quick comparison, there may be more to them, this is just a first-glance look but enough to determine that there are actual differences

3m20 Today of All Days Expanded adds opening strings insert FYC opens with clean synth 3m22 An Imperial Test of Power Expanded features alternate longer opening [0:00-1:08] FYC features a different opening [0:00-0:21], actually mostly tracked from a later section of the track [1:36-1:51 in the FYC ver., 2:22-2:39 in the Expanded track] with a few edits (thanks @Chewy for pointing out) 4m26 No Trust Among Rebels Expanded has extended intro absent from FYC [0:00-0:12 + 12s of silence] FYC cuts the first 23 seconds of Expanded verion 7m44 We Have to Press the Attack Expanded has original opening FYC features a different opening [0:00-0:06], actually tracked from a pitch shifted section later in the same track [from 0:16 to 0:22 in both the FYC and Expanded track] (thanks again @Chewy for pointing out).

Other differences in the Expanded Soundtrack breakdown

A Long Ride Ahead "Alternate" in the Expanded features different ending [3:26-end], absent from OST and FYC Jedha City Ambush Alternate: short edit + added guitar / synth (?) insert in the opening FYC features the "Alternate", OST features the "Original" Rebellions Are Built on Hope "Original" in the Expanded has louder / alternate take trumpet (?) [1:09-1:39] "Alternate" in the Expanded has quieter trumpet (?), more integrated with the orchestra FYC features the "Original", OST features the "Alternate" The Master Switch Expanded features the FYC version with shorter violin (?) insert that starts at 2:32 Original version with full violin (?) insert missing from Expanded, featured only in the OST Scarif Antenna Alignment "Alternate" features different percussions [2:00-2:27 in the "Original" track], absent from OST and FYC Jyn Erso & Hope Suite "Alternate Open" features bridge used in the End Credits from Williams material to Giacchino suite, absent from OST and FYC Guardians of the Whills Suite "Alternate Ending" features bridge used in the End Credits from Giacchino to Williams material, absent from OST and FYC
So in short, to have the most out of the currently released music, we need to keep the Expanded and add music from both the OST and FYC. And as I suspected, all the FYC tracks labelled as "FV" do actually have differences... even if most people just brush them off as identical to the original versions or simply crossfaded short edits.

As for the issues with the Scarif Antenna Alignment and the "butchered" End Credits I don't really see such big issues. If that abrupt intro to track 57 bothers you so much, just do a quick edit on Audacity.
As for the End Credits, I personally have no reason to be mad for its absence. The thought process was not "Let's have the end credits but butcher it for the sake of it" but rather "Let's keep it to Giacchino material and include the credits versions of the suites that feature those nice bridges to Williams material".

Could they have included the actual End Credits? Yes, of course, but this doesn't mean we have to misunderstand their intentions. The Blu-Ray is always there ready to be ripped.

Wasn't Tron Legacy just all the exclusive tracks collected with the original release, didn't include anything new?

Seems to be a trend with Disney putting these out with no fanfare, wasn't it just John Powell talking about Solo's deluxe edition?

Cherish is a strong word, unfortunately what else can we do? It always comes down to money, not buying it sends the message that there's no interest, complaining online and tweeting/emailing Disney might work, but looking at the debacle that was Hunchback's Legacy edition I'd doubt it. Having a cd release with Mike Matessino overseeing the production would be a dream come true, and him having a strong relationship with John Williams as far as expansions go gives me hope that any Skywalker Saga releases would have him overseeing it. But the reality is they'll probably be dumped online with tons of problems that'll never get fixed.
