So I was watching Dogma and I don’t know if it’s just me but I recognized a familiar tune playing in the background of this scene. It’s the “Rivendell” theme from LOTR. Almost note-for-note. So I looked up who did the score thinking it would be a rando but no it was Howard Shore of all people.

According to Forbes, Disney spent $276 million on Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania after some tax reimbursement from the UK government. Since studios only take approx. half of a movie's box office, this means they had a $38 million loss on Quantumania.

I updated this breakdown with the unreleased tracks and also I have now come to realize that Feyd’s motif is actually just the seduction motif from the second half of “Song of the Sisters.” Hans decided to use the same motif again for a different purpose just like the House Atreides theme (Although the seduction motif was never heard in the first film only the sketchbook album).

I’ve uploaded some of the unreleased tracks from Dune: Part Two on my channel. They’re a little rippy but for the most part are pretty good. I used the 5.1 split on Audacity from the Vudu file and some AI for the reduction to overall create a solid product.

I would love another big Williams score, but when I look at the Indy 5 soundtrack, for which he had to resort to copying old works to fill in the blanks despite having lots of time due to the constant delay of release, I don't think that he has a big action wall to wall score in him any more. Once you get that old, the energy level just goes down and everything takes much more time. But on the other hand if this movie is more of a kind like Fabelmans or the Post, requiring no wall to wall scoring, he might still be able to pull it off, if he really wants to do it and it really happens in the next 1-2 years.

By the way, what I would really like is him writing another Tintin score, but I think that window of opportunity is passed, even if another Tintin movie will be made one day.

"According to Spielberg, Williams repeatedly tells him that he’s waiting for his next assignment. “Every time we see each other,” Spielberg says, “Johnny asks, ‘Are you working on our next film?’ Because John has been my primary creative partner across my entire film career. And that’s not gonna end until we do.”"

Frieren's complete score is out! 2 and a half hours of awesome music. It's so great to hear many of the great tracks I've grown to love while watching the show. On a first listen I really enjoyed new tracks like Frieren the Slayer, Beyond the Journey's End, Great Mage Flamme and The Magic Within!

Just watched Civil War. Good movie but has a very bleak message. I don’t know if I’ll ever rewatch it. If it is Alex Garland’s last film I find that interesting. The movie is really about journalism and how it numbs you to the reality of things. Think Nightcrawler meets The Hurt Locker. I still need to watch Men but of the other three Garland directed films I’d rank them from best to worst as Ex Machina, Annihilation, and lastly Civil War.

Saw this on Facebook. These are some classic movies that got, say, "curious" names in Portuguese when they were released here. Here's my best attempt at translating them back to English so you can all appreciate the criativity of Brazilian localizers:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off = Curtindo a Vida Adoidado = "Crazily Enjoying Life"
Or something, this is literally the first and last time someone used the neologism "adoidado", which comes from doido = crazy).

The Hangover = Se Beber, Não Case! = "If You Drink, Don't Get Married!"
Anti-drinking and driving PSAs here use the slogan "se beber, não dirija", so they just replaced "dirija" (meaning "drive") for "case" (from the verb "casar", meaning to get married).

Teen Wolf = O Garoto do Futuro = "The Boy from the Future"
That's an 80s movie starring Michael J. Fox, so of course our creative translators had to tie it somehow to Back to the Future. Believe me, this wasn't the first nor the last time when a movie got a Brazilian title meant to evoke (and perhaps even confound the uninformed customer in a pre-internet time) a more successful movie.

The Graduate = A Primeira Noite de um Homem = "A Man's First Night"
Honestly, a better title than the original.

Evil Dead = Uma Noite Alucinante = "A Crazy/Insane Night"
A literal translation would be "An Hallucinating Night", but unlike in English this word in Portuguese is (or at least used to be back in the 80s) also a slang for "crazy" in a "fun" kinda way.

The Naked Gun = Corra que a Polícia Vem Aí = "Run that the cops are coming!" or "Run! The Cops are Coming!"
A funnier title than the original. Actually, what does "The Naked Gun" even mean?

The Sound of Music = A Noviça Rebelde = "The Rebel Novice"
I guess our translators back in the 60s were more moved by Maria's rebellious nature than by the songs.

Annie Hall = Noivo Neurótico, Noiva Nervosa = "Neurotic Groom, Nervous Bride"
I guess this says more about what audiences are going to see in this movie than just the name of Diane Keaton's character.

Some others that aren't on the meme:

My Girl  = Meu Primeiro Amor = "My First Love"
The funniest part is that the sequel is also called Meu Primeiro Amor - Parte 2 (literally My First Love - Part 2), which doesn't make any sense.

Home Alone = Esqueceram de Mim = "They Forgot About Me"
    Much funnier than the original!

Hot Tube Time Machine = A Ressaca = "The Hangover"
    Really, I'm not kidding.

    Jaws = Tubarão = "Shark"
Yeah, this movie here is known by the name of the animal.

Total Recall = O Vingador do Futuro = "The Avenger from the Future"
Obvious reference to Arnold's other famous futuristic action movie.

Moonraker = 007 Contra o Foguete da Morte = "007 Versus the Rocket of Death"
007 movies could easily fill this entire post. Just for starters, every 007 movie here has "007" in the national title, unlike the original (which I always thought it was odd).

Airplane! = Apertem os Cintos, o Piloto Sumiu! = "Fasten Your Seatbelts, the Pilot Has Vanished!"
Funnier than the original. I mean, the name for a comedy movie is just Airplane with an exclamation mark? Lame.

Wayne's World = Quanto Mais Idiota Melhor = "The More Idiot, The Better"
I think this was an attempt from our translators to sell a crazier  and dumber comedy than the movie actually is. I never saw this movie, is Mike Myers's character really that idiot? They should have saved this title for a movie that came out a few years later...

    Dumb & Dumber = Débi & Lóide = ...
See, I think this is one of the most faithful translations. In Portuguese, the word "debilóide" means stupid, moronic, idiot, loon, etc. So, they just divided the word in two and used it to name the main characters, who were renamed here from Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas to "Débi" and "Lóide".

This movie was a success here, so of course other studios wanted to ride its wave. So, the 1995 Chris Farley movie "Tommy Boy" became none other than "Mong & Lóide" here. It's the same principle than the Jim Carrey movie but replacing "debilóide" by "mongolóide" (a slang that is actually kinda racist).

I'm another who hears Williams fine craftmanship and sensibilities all over this. And since I play a little guitar - well, a normal sized guitar a little - I especially like to hear Williams writing for guitar. I certainly have a softspot for Taking Pictures and The Days Between arrangement which features more guitar. In my mind, they're up there with Williams most beautiful pieces. I hope Williams writes a guitar concerto one day. A nice one like Elmer Bernstein's - not a weird one!

Actually liked Dead Reckoning and its score, despite my misgivings about Balfe as a non-composer.

Interesting when checking this score list that Joshua Pacey seems to be the one in charge of a lot of the great action stuff in the film. Anything credited with the fantastic stuff at the airport etc comes down to Pacey - I reckon a lot of this is Pacey, especially the string figure that comes in at about 0:59.

Saw the film today, basically it’s Kong’s Story but it was mindless Showa Style fun. The pace was good, just enough human interaction to catch your breath between the monster mayhem.

The music was a slight improvement, they used an orchestra as well this time.  But there moments where it sounded like cheesy 80’s synth.

I don’t understand how they claim Godzilla’s original music wouldn’t work but then allow a lousy pastiche version to represent Godzilla and someone else.

I'm disappointed that as the films progressed they moved away from the tone of the 2014 film and Skull Island too.

I’d give this one 3 out of 5 stars.

My guess is that this Fantastic Four movie will take place in an alternate dimension (just look at the buildings on that 4-4 Day card).  During the course of the movie they'll end up in the main MCU universe and then stay there for all subsequent movies

So maybe Julia Garner plays a version of the Silver Surfer in that orig universe that doesn't come over, and then someone else will play the main MCU Silver Surfer in a future movie.

As an aside, I think that Julia Garner could make a pretty good Rogue for the MCU X-Men.
