Still need a tell-all about how the Age of Ultron score became as fucked as it did. One of the most dumbfounding film score productions I've ever seen.

Very late to the party, but I find it astounding that there are people who think this score isn't gonna be great. The fact he was hired this early and at all is a really good sign that this won't be temped to high heaven. The argument that Thomas Newman "doesn't do big orchestral scores." when we have Little Women, Cinderella Man, The Good German, and several cues from Finding Nemo and Wall-E proving otherwise. I'm happy it's not a lesser-Zimmer clone who is just gonna follow the temp, or a composer who is just gonna do a John Williams pastiche cause Shawn Levy and the studio said "Just do John Williams!" without further instruction. The talk of multiple themes for this movie also makes me very very very very happy. "Why can't it be James Newton Howard?" Relax, we still have a new trilogy on the way. Maybe he'll do that.

I wonder who'll score this. Wouldn't mind if it's Brian Tyler, his score for the 2017 reboot was the only thing in that movie that was even remotely good. Probably my favorite score for a bad movie. My heart wants Alan Silvestri back but he's a bit busy playing with superheroes.

So so so so so so so so happy Randy Newman is back! Now if only Noah Baumbach remembered him.

The only way I think he won't come back is if he CAN'T. He had a nasty neck injury in 2023 but last November he said he was recovering and wanted to get back into writing music (songs and film scores) soon. So I think he'll return if he's willing. I doubt Andrew Stanton wants to be the director who wants to kick Randy off the franchise he's musically defined for 30 years, even if he loves working with Thomas.

Listened to the score last night twice before it got taken off Spotify and am listening to it again. Without seeing the film (seeing it on Saturday) it sounds incredible! I really really love the Conspiracy theme, it's just so thrilling and sinister. The action cues and the emotional cues are on point. What I'm still on the fence about is the Captain America theme. It's fine, but it doesn't pack the same punch as Henry Jackman's theme for Sam in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier nor is it as catchy as Laura's own theme for Captain Marvel. I also don't think it's used enough, which is also a problem I had with Benjamin Wallfisch's incredible score for The Flash. Overall, the score sounds great even if I prefer the scores for The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier, and The Marvels more.

Think this is a good move. If a filmmaker/composer want to use the John Williams theme, they should. I don't think anyone is obligated to use it. Love John Williams' score for Richard Donner's OG film and love Hans Zimmer's score for Man of Steel. Don't think Zimmer needed to use the theme. But happy to hear John Murphy is in addition to new themes. As long as a I get a new love theme for Clark & Lois.

They really are. If they ever do a Solo-esque deluxe edition for Wicked, those cues should be edited together.

Cause I'm me, I tend to hyperfixate on specific cues. I am absolutely in love with this little section (1:35-1:53 of Ozian Invitation). It's so fairy tale, Randy Newman-esque, I love it! I'd love for John Powell to make music like this for Star Wars one day. Video.Guru_20241206_132223751.mp4
