  1. I don't own any Zimmer CDs so I can't speak about CD booklets, but I have seen sheet music and arrangements of Zimmer scores and it's always his name on top of the page. As for film credits, I've never seen anything more specific than "Aditional Music By..." Zimmer's name is the one that's always on the movie posters, etc, etc. I'm not going to say "Yes! He STEALS credit" But quite honestly, I have no idea who wrote what in Pirates, The Holiday and many others... that's the problem from my point of view. I can tell you who composed what in The Holiday, it's all in the booklet. In credits, there is usually additional music, orchestrators, conducters, etc. But some people like to lump those all together and call them co-composers. As for sheet music, The Dark Knight had, was it 5 composers I believe, on the sheets, which is why it was initially ineligible for the Oscars. I don't know about every score and the sheet music, but that is one example. A lot of the times he'll lump them into a "band." There's a BHD Band in the Black Hawk Down CD, The Jigs in An Everlasting Piece, individual credits in Tears Of The Sun, The Holiday, etc. Pretty much all of his CD's give credit where credit is due. Alright then, you got me there.

  3. Bill Conti talking about Rocky's music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLkog60qQhg
  4. Excellent! Thanks for sharing! This made me laugh out loud, as it reminded me of something that happened a couple of weeks ago: We were just about to perform the end of the year concert with the choir here at school and our conductor (a HUGE early music nerd) was giving us a little motivational speech, and after a while she goes "Like Hildegard von Bingen would say...(inspirational quote that I can't remember)" Hehe we all just kind of looked at eachother and I was like "whoooo quotes Hildegard von Bingen in two thousand and friggin nine???
  5. Very nice! Where can I listen to more pieces from you?
  6. Chasing Butterflies is lovely! I had not seen it! Wow! I like it! who are the players? Sounds pretty nice! Love how the pizz. with the strings just makes perfect sense with the rainy weather in the pictuers! cooool!
  7. After a long time of not posting anything here, I'll put up some stuff I have been working on. This is called "Sketches for Flute, Bassoon, Harp and Strings" and as the name indicates, they are three very short pieces. I wrote them basically cause I had sketched some of the ideas a while ago and needed to kind of get them out of my head, and to keep practicing mixing and what not with Finale and GPO. I. Maria's Theme II. Chasing Butterflies III. Mom's Advice Comments are welcome
  8. Very sad indeed. I just keep thinking that this doesn't make any sense. This guy jumped off the Niagara falls last week and he basically walked off of it. He wanted to die so badly that he even fought with the rescuers who were trying to get him off of the bottom of the falls. But he was fine, left without a scratch. Now this woman is taking a beginners skiing course, goes down a little slope without any trees or rocks, trips and falls like any of us could trip and fall any day, and an hour later she's basically dead. WTF
  9. Hmm.. this might not be such a quick question but maybe someone can help. I'm slowly starting to get hardware and software for my home recording studio, and am ready to start spending some money on more hardware. I already have some sample libraries (GPO and Stormdrum) and as well a couple of audio workstations (Adobe Audition, and should be receiving Cubase some time this week). I am in general very illiterate in terms of the technology involved, I'm slowly learning through a lot of reading/research on the web, and the next thing I am reading everywhere that I should get is a sound card. So for those of you with a studio, could you explain me the advantages of buying one and what exactly it would be useful for? Perhaps the composers around here could give me a hand or point me in the right direction to find more info about this subject. Thanks
  10. Thanks a lot for your response Chuck! Very insightful. You made me realize that there are several things I need to consider and I'll probably ask more questions in the future. Thanks again. PS. I'm just realizing that this could probably be merged with the new "quick questions" thread so moderators, go ahead if you think it'd be better
  11. I've been wondering what the composers here use to promote their music online. Do you guys build your very own website or do you use places like My Space and Acid Planet to show what you're working on? I'm finishing a big batch of stuff that I've been writing all year and would like to have a central place to upload it and show it. I though I'd ask what the rest of you do to put it out there. Could you suggest any other similar websites like the two I mentioned? Websites that you think are good? Thanks a lot and hope you're all having a great Friday.
  12. Excellent! Even better! I noticed that that .PDF would be hard to read. Thanks!
  13. Can I change the title of the topic? It should read 78 instead of 87. But you guys probably know that already
  14. It is really awesome. I won't be able to read this until about two months from now but oh man, I'm looking forward to it. Looks like it'll be a pretty interesting read.
  15. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/ That's a brand new Trek trailer and man I think it looks very cool. The music sounds pretty awesome as well. Anybody have any ideas where it's from?
  16. If you haven't seen this yet, here it is. I think it is hilarious. Watching the Watchmen sometime this weekend
  17. Is this around already? Williams playing piano accompanying singer Nancy Wilson
  18. I completely agree, and what you say about the Oscars being a popularity contest is spot on true. I'm sure (and I've only listened to three out of the five best score nominees) that not many academy members came out of watching Button, Defiance, Wall-e or Milk remembering their scores or humming the music that accompanied the movie. I am completely sure on the other hand (and I haven't seen Slumdog yet, only listened to the score) that A LOT of people, whether we like it or not, came out singing Jai Ho and the rest of the music from Slumdog after watching the movie, and that's the difference between voting something for best score or not. So even though the other scores nominated may be more technically elaborate, there's no denying that they weren't as popular as Slumdog has been this year. I had no idea about that but I did think it was kind of an odd choice of music, so that may very well be the reason why he played it.
  19. Holy cow I didn't recogniza Giacchino without his goatee. I was like.. I know that voice.. who the hell is that guy? hehe
  20. Hilarious! Is that guy in the yellow shirt Cedric the entertainer? I love how they mention "El pollo loco" hehe funny stuff. Now to episode 2
  21. I had no idea there were two versions of the movie. Wish I knew what the specific differences where, although if the one I saw was PG-13 it was really pushing it. Now I'm curious. I haven't seen Man on fire in a long time but I do remember loving the hell out of it as well.
  22. I see what you mean. Personally I liked it just because it was a fun ride, plain and simple. I usually disagree with people when they say that for some films you just have to "turn your brain off and or leave it at the door" because no matter how dumb a movie I'm watching is, I always expect it to give me (as a whole) the fun I paid for. That's one of the reasons why I really don't like, for example, Transformers. Yeah, robots were cool looking and it showed what you can do with special effects today, but besides that, I really didn't like it. Bad acting, badly written, poorly shot, etc, etc, etc. Taken is just the complete opposite. It was fast paced, Liam Neeson was badass, I could understand what was going on in the action scenes (which these days is something I really appreciate) and it was just well executed for what it was. The movie has the simplest of premises, yet in its execution made me feel engaged the whole time. This kind of movie you know where it comes from, you know where it's going, how it will begin and how it will end. But if it manages to make the ride fun then it was a success, at least IMHO. And Taken did it (at least for me).
  23. I just came back from watching Taken. Oh man was it fun! A great hour an a half little movie. Liam Neeson kicks all sorts of @$$ and it was a great ride. A little bit slow during the first minutes when they're introducing the characters but once it gets going it doesn't stop until the last minute. Loved the way it was shot and you totally buy the idea of Neeson as a guy you don't want to mess with. I'm still trying to catch my breath, hehe
