  1. Oh, Spielberg-Fan, at last you registered with your real name, eh?
  2. Here my preferences: films 1. Empire of the Sun 2. Saving Private Ryan 3. Star Wars Episode IV 4. Edward Scissorhands 5. A.I. Artificial Intelligence scores 1. Empire of the Sun 2. Saving Private Ryan 3. Jaws 4. Home Alone 5. The Empire Strikes Back themes 1. Cadillac of the Skies (Sp./Will. Collaboration version) 2. Hymn to the Fallen 3. Schindler's List Main Theme 4. Sea Attack Number One 5. Born on the Fourth of July End Credits
  3. But how can Spiderman be nominated if Batman wasn't in 1989? Spiderman demonstrates that Elfman is not in good form. His best moments are very far (Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare before.......), and now he is in a repetitive phase.
  4. Kurosawa and Mizoguchi in b&w (Yojimbo, etc.), Paths of Glory, Psycho, Andrei Rublev, Bronenosez Potemkin, and............................................................................................................Frankenheimer's THE TRAIN. :flamebob:
  5. And what about Harry Potter 2? The Two Towers will surely be nominated, so why not the new HP? (Rosenman's masterpiece The Lord of the Rings, much better than Shore's version)
  6. Oh, yes. In Star Wars movies you can see the development of the different leit motifs (and retro-development: Episode IV, V, VI, I and II). And with Indiana Jones each of the three scores is different, but you can see the Indiana Jones "spirit" on them, not only with the Raiders March.
  7. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, of course. Williams adds excellent new themes to the already existing ones. OK, the first Indiana Jones score has the merit of introducing the Raiders March. But I think that the new themes (of Last Crusade) are gorgeous. I have no predilection, 'cause all of them are amazing. If I had to choose one theme it would be the scherzo for motorcycle and orchestra. Raiders would be the introduction, Temple of Doom the innovation and The Last Crusade the perfection of perfection.
  8. And I like Thelma & Louise very much, even Black Hawk. But the remaining films (Legend, Hard Rain, 1492, White Squall and Hannibal) do not get the quality of those ones. What is he doing in these moments? Isn't he prepairing an movie about Alexander the Great?
  9. In Hook I prefer The Ultimate War, seven minutes of action music. But I understand what you feel with those tracks. It happens to me with The Last Battle of SPR and Toy Planes, Home and Hearth from Empire of the Sun.
  10. Oh, yes. I love the unreleased music of A.I. The arriving at Rouge City by the head-mouth-tunnel is superb PA-RA-BA... PA-RA-BA.... PA-RA-BA.... PA-RA-BA-BA-BA... PA-RA-BA........ Rosenkravelier music with the rythms of The Mecha World. Unsurmountable. It should have won the Oscar instead of the boring The Lord of the Rings (much much better the Rosenman's version).
  11. I agree, the "gladiator waltz" is great, and it appears twice on the CD. About serious music, his next two works with Ridley Scott were, simply, a trash. That quasi-operatic Hannibal music was horrible, unsubstantial; very bad. And Black Hawk Down...... that african soloist, that african rythms,..... I prefer Zimmer composing for Peacemaker, for example. So his only good work making serious music is THE THIN RED LINE. The rest..........
  12. Let's see: Empire of the Sun (although there are only three unreleased tracks of that film) Home Alone (a 2 CD set with all the music of the two films would be OK) Family Plot (I only have that Silva Screen version of the main theme) All the Indiana Jones trilogy (including the first one, as the LP has music that is not in the Complete Edition CD) A lot of Varese's CDs, which running time is always about 25 minutes. And, above all, BORN ON THE FOURTH JULY. The edition I have is a shame, which relegates Williams's music to a secondary level. There are many more, but these are the most important ones, I think.
  13. Yeah, the CD is good, but not the score applied to the film. This score could have been of a common action film, and nobody would have perceived it. Definitely, gladiators fought better accompanied by Rozsa's or North's music.
  14. Where? :wow: Justin -Wondering.... She was disguised as a pirate, and she is introduced into a trunk with scorpions, I think. It is in the first part of the film, when Peter Pan arrives at Neverland.
  15. John Voight appeared in ROSEWOOD. And I know that Williams composed for the only film Sinatra directed. I haven't seen this movie, so I don't know if he starred it.
  16. Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Ed Harris, Ben Affleck (ok, he is not a great actor, but he owns an Oscar), Will Smith, Albert Finney, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jeff Bridges, Antonio Banderas, Nicolas Cage, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, Jodie Foster, Kim Basinger, and.........................Casper Van Dien By the way, GLENN CLOSE appeared in HOOK in a cameo.
