  1. Yeah it isn't that great. Calling Elfman's Batman score great is an understatement. It was GROUNDBREAKING.
  2. On this weeks cover of EW as well as EW's must list.
  3. Wow. Robocop is playing the voice of Batman. Awesome. I thought Michael Ironside was going to do the voice like he did in the Legends of the Dark Knight episode that featured a short segment of "The Dark Knight Returns". But I guess it makes sense to get Weller for this since Miller wrote Robocop 2 also. Too bad they didn't get jKeaton. But Weller is just as cool. My anticipation for this has now gotten even bigger.
  4. Fans of Young's Spiderman 3 score always say he brought more life to Elfman's themes than Elfman did but I disagree. He , Lurie, and Debney made Elfman's Spider-man motif (what some believe the motif was in the first place) cheesy. I really disliked how Elfman's Spidey motif was handled. It was too in your face in a bad way. Elfman's use of the theme was a lot more subtle in the first two. The use of the variations of it were handled sparingly in the Elfman scores. Also Young and co. hardly used the Parker theme. They edited it out, which I consider to be the important part, of the main title ( which sounded poor in #3).The Green Goblin theme got turned into something that belonged in Hellraiser. And speaking of Hellraiser the score sounded like leftovers of it some parts like when an angry Peter was sitting on his bed and staring at the chest with his black suit inside. The "Birth Of Sandman" which a lot of people believe to be a highlight of the score was predictable and sounded like something right out of Young's Hellraiser. I knew the chorus was going to kick in as the music started to build up. I knew where it was going as well as the scene itself since it's not that different from Ock's at the pier when he decides to become a criminal in #2. Plus the music during Peter's and Harry's fight at the Osborn Mansion was out of place and took me out of the scene. And just made the scene more ridiculous. Compared to Elfman's first two. This one feels out of place. It doesn't feel Elfman-esque enough to me. I say this b/c if you're scoring a direct sequel you should blend in with Elfman's material while at the same time making it your own. All young did was used the spidey theme and green goblin theme and turned it into something that fitted his style. No wonder they had Lurie and Debney come in to make the score more Elfman-esque. And still failed imo.The score for #3 was another problem I had with a list of problems that I had with the movie itself. It's a shame Elfman never got to score the whole trilogy but then again after the way Spider-man 3 turned out maybe it wasn't. At least he got to score MIB3. No matter how the film turns I'm glad Elfman got to finally complete a trilogy. Sorry to rant like this but I didn't find anything special or great about Young's Spider-man 3 score. It was decent at best.
  5. Probably b/c the 4th of July is on a Wednesday this year. And movies that open on 4th of July week tend not to open that day but before it. Is my guess anyway.
  6. Shouldn't B:MOTP be over BB since it's #6 in your list? Is BB and The Incredibles tied at #7 since they're both at #7 in your list? It would certainly explain why you rank 11 movies instead of 10. Just sayin'
  7. Looking at the running time and how many tracks this album has. As well as it having a main title and end credits has gotten me pretty excited for this but as much as I'm looking forward to this score and film. I'll only pick it up if I'm impressed by it in the film. B/c there's so much potential for this score to be great with it being a Spider-man movie and it being different from the previous films. So hopefully Horner keeps it mostly fresh on this one. And writes something brilliant and not something I've heard in dozens of his films. I do expect to hear his trademarks but hopefully not something that'll distract me out of the film. I am looking forward to this score though cautiously.
  8. I'm going to say some that people have yet to mention. Basil Poledouris' "Riders of Doom" theme from Conan the Barbarian, which is up there with Williams' "Imperial March", imo. Jerry Goldsmith's "Richter" theme from Total Recall Jerry Goldsmith's "Bear" theme from The Edge Jerry Goldsmith's "Cash theme" from Exrtreme Prejudice Jerry Goldsmith's "Alien" theme from Alien Jerry Goldsmith's theme for the Russian enemy in Rambo: First Blood Part II Danny Elfman's "Penguin theme" and "Catwoman theme" from Batman Returns Danny Elfman's "Red Dragon Theme" from Red Dragon Danny Elfman's "Headless Horseman theme" from Sleepy Hollow Leonard Rosenman's "RoboCain theme" from Robocop 2 Various villain themes from Shirley Walker's B:TAS and The Flash series. Shirley Walker's "Phantasm theme" from B:MOTP. Michael Giachinno's "Syndrome theme" from The Incredibles Marco Beltrami's "Rasputin theme" from Hellboy. Bruce Broughton's "Dracula theme" from The Monster Squad Bruce Broughton's "Smith's theme" from Lost In Space John Powell's "Dark Phoenix theme" from X3. John Ottman's "Lex Luthor Theme" from Superman Returns. That's off the top of my head.
  9. It's vice versa for me. The Avengers is way better than Wolverine and the X-men trilogy and the overpraised First Class.
  10. Yeah he needs a break from action scores.
  11. Pass. I already own the LLLR 2 cd set. If only I knew that Intrada would reissue this score in the same presentation a year in a half later. I wouldn't have rushed to get it then. So if the rumors are true about LLLR releasing ST:TMP next month I should just wait a year in a half later for Intrada to reissue it. Sure it's good for those who missed it but wake me when the original recordings of Poledouris' two Conan scores are finally released.
  12. Agreed. What's really pathetic is they didn't include the track "A Virus" on the Deluxe Edition, which was on the 1999 original score album.
  13. I saw it again on Mother's day with family and relatives. They enjoyed it. I enjoyed it even more. There's never a dull moment for me. This is probably a movie I can look at over and over and over and never tire of it. I also noticed Silvestri's score more this time. Though I wasn't intentionally paying attention to it. But I just notice some themes or motifs that he kept using on this viewing which is weird b/c I have yet to hear the score seperate from the film. I'm really tempted to look at this for a third time. And I've never done that before in my life (that is look at a movie in the cinema three times). I'm glad this movie is making money and breaking records b/c it deserves it.
  14. Agree with you that it looks great. But It's going to be hard to top Avengers imo. I saw Avengers again yesterday and wanted to see it again immediately after. Still do. I've never watched a movie three times at a cinema. It's very rare for me to look at a movie twice at one. I'm tempted to check out Avengers for a third time. But I doubt Amazing Spiderman will have the same impact on me the way Avengers did. Though I do think it'll be great judging by the last two trailers. Just like "The Dark Knight" and this is coming from somebody who enjoyed that film.

  16. Good man. Did you notice how shapely her backside looked in the catsuit? It was a highlight for me, and it helped break up the emotionally devoid action scenes. Her butt worked wonders for pacing. Especially in the scene where she's interrogating Loki. It kind of took my mind off the actual scene for a few seconds. But I agree I like her look better in The Avengers than in Iron Man 2 ( which she also looked good in).

    .

I did say one of the few.

They definitely put me ON! This sounds like a perfect sequel to the previous two scores; incorporating the famous elements while adding the 60's vibes Danny does so well. My second favourite composer (after Williams) is on a roll these days! agreed. = ) I have yet to hear the samples. But I think Elfman is one of the few composers who know how to integrate an electric guitar with an orchestra without it feeling out of place.
  19. Wow. The opening weekend for this made more than the domestic gross of Hulk (2003), The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. Congrats to everyone involved they deserved it.
  20. Marvel's The Avengers was far from forgettable. I'm thinking about this movie all day and I saw it yesterday. I'm still trying to think of the next time I should see it. It's definitely worth another viewing it was that good. The score (as much as I want to like it) was nothing special from Silvestri, imo. The theme was decent but forgettable, imo. The movie deserved a better score overall. It was just playing in the background not leaving much impact, imo. But I'll still pick up the Intrada cd b/c I usually like silvestri's music. And am hoping I missed something in the film regarding the music. No offense but you sound like a hater. You seem to dislike the other Marvel films too.
  21. I'm very much looking forward to the TDKR and TASM . Anticipation of the scores, however, is very tricky for me. I'm not crazy about Zimmer's and Howard's other two Batman scores. But I'll give Zimmer the benefit of the doubt. Since this is (hopefully) his last batscore. Maybe he'll actually go out with a bang. I'm not getting my hopes up though. I'm not ticked about Horner scoring this but I'm not excited about it either. Hopefully the film will at least provide some inspiration for him. Back to the trailer it was cool and all but was unnecessary, imo. The second trailer showed enough. The third trailer gives away too much. I'm still looking forward to it, though.
