Me too. Eventhough I own the re-recording b/c I thought this release wouldn't be possible for another decade.

Finished listening to this a few hours ago. What can I say. Another great Elfman score. I love Atom's theme. It still remains in my head after I'm long done. "Charlie Trains Atom", "Meet Atom",Safe With Me","Atom Versus Twin Cities", "Bonding", "Parkway Motel", "This Is A Brawl", "You Deserve Better", "Into The Ring""Final Round" (one of the best cues this year) and "People's Champion" are some of the highlights. But thw whole score is great. This is definitely one of the best scores this year. This score was definitely what this past summer was lacking, imo. Liked the Conti Rocky nod at the end of "People's Champion".

John Barry's King Kong coming soon in expanded form?

As interesting as this would be to purchase. If true. It'll be even cooler if a label releases Shore's rejected score for the second remake as well. -
Not blown away by this. His CATFA score was good but could' ve been a lot better. It was mostly leftovers of his GIJOE score. The CA march and the action music is the main thing his CA:TFA score has going for it. Not to mention Peggy, the Red Skull, Hydra, the Howling Commandos, and the Cosmic Cube all lacked themes. The score lacked that 40s serials ( excluding the March and Menken's Star Spangled Man) sound that Shearmur's Sky Captain and TWOT (which is also a better score) Horner's The Rocketeer ( another better score) and Williams' first three Indy scores (also better but that goes without saying) I know all those films took place in the mid to late 30s. But still. I hope his Avengers score won't sit up there with his three other missed opportunities (GIJOE, A-team, CA:TFA). But I have a strange feeling it will.

I thought "The Wolfman" was his only rejected (or almost rejected) score. I have a feeling this is one of those cases where he backed out of it (maybe b/c of scheduling conflicts like with "Green Hornet"). He's also said before (on the POTA dvd commentary) that he's bailed on a project whenever the director falls in love with the temp music. Not those exact words.

I can't think of any worse case senario that would involve any combo of, say: "From the Earth to the Moon" "Robin Hood" "The X-Men" (original, un-Badelt-altered score, with orchestral lays) "Back to Gaya" "The Iron Giant" "Frequency" and, of course, any of his seven [known] rejected scores. Flip side, any combo of these Elfman scores: "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (seperate from the Elf-Box) "Big-Top Pee Wee" "Edward Scissorhands" "Black Beauty" "Mission: Impossible 1" "Good Will Hunting" "Anywhere But Here" and rejected "Gattaca" score. Rejected Gattaca score by Elfman? Any confirmation on this? B/c this is news to me.

I thought they announce it on (What else?!) Black Friday.

I did hear a few similarities between Arnold's DAD and CR scores. I don't own any of Barry's Bond scores. Or Barry scores in general (except his rejected Golden Child score). Ducks for cover!

Music Box Records releasing Alan Silvestri's Overboard December 5th
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
1000 copies! Going to have to get a move on this one and fast. -
Say what you will but Elfman's POTA score was (and still is) one of the best scores of 2001, imo. So a C&C release is welcomed, imo.

Film Score Monthly (FSM) Releases Gremlins (2CD) by Jerry Goldsmith!!!
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
With this. Silvestri's Overboard score finally released. The La La Land's upcoming Black Friday releases, And whatever Intrada's got up their sleeves for the rest of the year. It looks like Nov. and Dec.is going to be tight with money. It pains me to do it but I'm definitely putting this on hold since it's unlimited. Oh yeah and January might be tight too b/c of the F13 1-6 scores finally being released. -
Haven't heard it yet. Though am anxious to. Will wait until the cd release in November instead. I like to torture myself

Just don't expect Cirque when you listen to Real Steel. Those are two different scores. BTW, I saw RS Saturday and thought it was good for what it was(a fun and entertaining movie.). It's wasn't as bad as the trailers made it look. The score by Elfman was great and very effective in the film. Which also had plenty of hiphop/techno music in it. The theme for Atom is very catchy and touching, imo. Some of the guitar riffs in the film remind me of "Taking Woodstock" and "The Kingdom". Nobody panic. It's only the guitar riffs that remind you of those two very underappreciated scores. Definitely can't wait to pick this up. The track "Charlie Trains Atom" was very effective in the film. It really enhanced the scene and made it like it's more than just a guy teaching his robot (who can shadow box) how to box better. It stayed with me as well as Elfman's music during the "Final Round".

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)

Yesterday I listened to : Identity- Alan Silvestri Very textural and atmospheric. Proving Silvestri's range. You can barely hear Silvestri's style in the score. It's also very Hermannesque and reminds of a little bit of Elfman's Dolores Claiborne, which is also of course very Hermannesque. "Settlin In" sounds very T. Newman like. I found the score interesting and a little disturbing at times. Ricochet- Alan Silvestri A very dark and loud Silvestri score. I hope some day this gets an expansion b/c it's missing some good cues. Can't get enough of those Main Titles. Ice-T's title song is very dirty and raw. I know it's Ice-T, but still. It's odd that varese included that. They usually don't include songs on their albums. A good score none the less. Ghost- Maurice Jarre The milan 2005 remastered. Was a nice album eventhough it was still missing some tracks. They still haven't put the film version of Sam defeating Carl on the album. They had the original album version (which was different from the film) and an alternate synth version ( which reminds me a lot of Jarre's No way Out like most of the score. The interview at the end was okay. Some of the stuff Jarre mentioned is already in the liner notes plus it didn't have him talk about Ghost. Why put it on the album. I did find the part where he talks about his process of scoring a bad movie interesting, but why was this interview on the album. They still could've added more music on the album interview included. It's a little over 55 mins (with interview). With that said I'm happy I finally have a copy. -
Jerry Goldsmith's First Knight (La-La Land 2CD Complete)
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
I'll probably pick this up next month. Never get enough of Goldsmith's music. Hopefully it won't sell out by then. I still have to check out the movie. Never saw the movie or heard the score before. -
Okay. Thank you for your time and help.

An ipod will do just fine. I just wanted to know if it'll be a very difficult task for me to download or rip music from the skeleton drive to an ipod. No biggie if it is. It won't stop me from at least trying.
-
I've listened to music on stereo/cd players/anything with a disc drive, but I've never really listened to music digitally unless it's samples from an album.
-
Get out much? What do you use to listen to music right now? Sorry. I know that was a dumb question. But I've never been interested in getting or buying an ipod. Call me old fashioned or old school, but I always preferred listening to music on CDs. With this B/E Box I was thinking about ripping the music to an Ipod. B/c I didn't want to keep opening the box (as well as the cds themselves) over and over to the point I wear it out. I want to preserve it. However I will listen to the albums once on disc. As well as read the book and watch the dvd at least once. Therefore I can listen to the music as much as I like on an ipod. I was just curious if it's difficult to rip from the skeleton drive thingy to an ipod not to mention is it easy to rip music to an ipod period ? I just wanted to know before I decide to buy one and rip it myself.
-
I'm thinking about buying an Ipod and ripping the music from the skeleton pen drive or whatever it's called. I've never used an Ipod and ripped music on it. Is it difficult to do ? And can I rip all the music from the skeleton pen drive and on to an Ipod ? I mean can it be done ? If so will that be very difficult to do as well ?
-
Finally got mine this afternoon. Only looked through it. I don't even know where to begin on this. There's so much to enjoy. I might listen to them on disc once. Then try to download the music on an Ipod. Which I've never done before. Not to mention I've never used an Ipod in my life. But I just want to preserve the box and it's contents.

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
lonzoe replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
No matter how wrong he was about Poledouris' Robo score. I would still love to get an expanded C&C score to Robocop 2. The last score I listened to was Elfman's overlooked "The Next Three Days" score two days ago. It's another textural score in the vein of The Kingdom and Proof of Life. I especially like the tracks "Last Three Months", "A Warning", "Breakout", and "The Truth". But I think the score overall was very well done. And proves Elfman can score more than just fantasy/comic book/adventure movies. I hope he gets more oppotunities to work with Haggis again. I really liked what he came up for this. Then again I'm an admirer of this particular style of Elfman's. Oh and the Moby songs weren't bad either especially "Mistake" it blends in well with Elfman's score.
