It means nothing to you. I still believe he writes some amazing music. He only really disappointed me with Meet the Robinsons. His music has matured over the years which is a great thing b/c that means he's evolving and showing his versatility through each score even in the Burton films. You just want the 80s and early 90s Elfman music, which Elfman has moved on from a while ago.

Danny Elfman scores 'Terminator: Salvation'
lonzoe replied to Charlie Brigden's topic in General Discussion
There's 3 tracks taken from the Serenada? I agree that some of his other tracks sound like it as well, but stylistically it sounds he's trying to emulate Philip Glass than rehashing his old stuff. There was only two tracks adapted from Serenada Schizophrana. 95 % of the score is original. As for T4 i'll wait to see the movie to judge Elfman. BTW, I was definitely not looking forward to this and am still thinking about rather I should rent it or wait for cable. McG directing Bale as John Connor and Common as one of the resistence with Michael Bay money shots sounds like a stinker in my book. But we'll see. Should've waited for Cameron in the first place. -

Is that the next poll? And why should it be? Everyone knows who's gonna win look who's website it is.

Williams does have a tendency to overscore films. But with Elfman, I've always found it more annoying. Batman has lots of music that are just there, and loud, without really doing anything. What excuses? I'm not the one who says Nicholson's performance made the Joker over-the-top and too laughable, others have said that repeatedly. When I rewatched the film a few weeks/months ago, I thought Nicholson was excellent, but the overall direction/concept of the film diluted his character. To much ridiculousness and bombast, in the film and the score. Resulting in the film not being as dark as it seems to pretend to be. So "Roasted Dude" sounded too ridiculous and bombastic. Only time Elfman went over the top was when Nicholson went over the top. I haven't seen a Batman comic since I was a child. But as far as pure music goes, I like Goldenthal's Batman scores far more than Elfman's. That explains it. thats just wrong and yes the score adds weight to the film like a mediocre bowl of chili adds weight to your stomach You gonna cry. It's his opinion. Get over it.

Also, in the context of the film, it's somewhat overscored and over the top. It's not Nicholson's performance that makes the Joker too much slapsticky and not menacing enough, it's Burton's direction and (as a result) the music. In the context of the film it's overscored ? The same could be said about a lot of the movies that the name of the guy this website is dedicated to scored. You talk about Nicholson like if he was only playing a really menacing Joker. He played him funny, menacing, gentlemanlike. You blame Burton for Nicholson's performance. The scene where Joker was talking to the burnt body was one of the scenes Burton mentioned on an old interview when talking about the Joker. So quit with the excuses. Goldenthal's are better (scores, not movies). So assuming that you read comics, when you read Batman you think of Goldenthal's music? Or better yet when you think of Batman you think of Goldenthal's music accompanying him? I'm sorry Goldenthal's scores to his Batman movies ,especially BF, were good not as perfect as Elfman's or Walker's. But WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the recent batman scores. Don't get me wrong Goldenthal's score to BF was one of the best things about it ,IMO.

Elfman did not hit his peak Edward Scissorhands. He also scored Batman Returns, Nightmare B4 Xmas, Sommersby, Black Beauty, Dolores Claiborne, Mission Impossible, Mars Attacks, Men in Black, A Simple Plan, Sleepy Hollow and i think those rival Scissorhands. I agree about his recent scores. I've been really impressed with the scores he's been doing this decade. He's really been evolving. I can't wait for his Milk score. I agree with Horner he probably hit his peak with "The Rocketeer" one of the best superhero/ comic book scores ever. i agree with Giacchino he's getting better and better. B4 you know it he'll have an oscar or two. He's definitely the next best thing in film music. What about Ottman ? You think he reached his peak ? I don't. You guys might get p--sed at me but I can't wait for his Valkyrie score. Elfman did not hit his peak Edward Scissorhands. most disappointing scores of 2008 (so far)?
lonzoe replied to ebertfan92's topic in General Discussion
Del Toro himself said he used Elfman's POTA score and Edward Scissorhands in the temp. He also said he used Hermanns Jason and the Argonauts and the 7th Voyage of Sinbad if I'm not mistaken in the temp as well because he wanted a Ray Harryhausen/ Bernard Hermann type of fantasy movie. The score is a Hermann inspired score and Elfman even admitted it in a recent interview. BTW, people say that Powell's X3 is Elfman influenced. I'm just saying you're way off base if you believe Elfman was inspired by Powell for HB2. You have nothing to back it up and you won't even bother. What's next Williams IJ&TKOTCK was inspired by Gustavo Santoallalla (sp?). Please. -

Explain to me how Elfman was heavily influenced by Powell, when Elfman was going back to his early fantasy score days like Nightbreed, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissohands while blending with his modern writing. HB2 does not sound like anything Powell would cook up. I think you meant Elfman was heavily influenced by Hermann. You're probably the ame guy that thinks The Kingdom is an MV/RC score. -
Okay sorry. I just get upset when people say it's weak eventhough it's their opinion, but I like it that Elfman steps out of his comfort zone and write something like The Kingdom. Anyways sorry about that.
-
I'm getting tired of people bashing The Kingdom. Yeah The Kingdom had a lot of synth but still had the Elfman touch. The score is very underrated, IMO. He wrote what fit the movie perfectly there was no other way to score it but that way. I also am excited for Wanted, the score. I could care less about that turd of a movie. The movie took a crap on the graphic novel. Millar ,creator, doesn't care because he think's he gonna get a crapload of money off of it. Watch in ten to fifthteen years they're gonna remake it. Maybe even sooner than that. Todd Macfarlene was praising the Spawn movie back when it opened two or three years after he was talking about rebooting it. Anyways Elfman's on a row this year.

The scores I'm looking foward to: I'm not interseted in the Iron Man score. Djwadji or Debney wouldn't have excited me. David Arnold would've been perfect for this (ID4 meets Casino Royale). The score was what I expected. Believe it or not it didn't hurt or help the movie so basically it did nothing. The movie delivered . I think it's one of the best Marvel movies. Indy 4 . JW scoring a movie again which was three years ago but feels like 10. The movie looks interesting too. Speed Racer. Giachinno scoring which is perfect casting when you think about. Plus the Wachowski Bros. get the best out of their composers ex. Don Davis in The Matrix Trilogy. Movie does look silly and cartoony. Still interseted in seeing it at least for the visuals. Just like the first one. I don't give a crap about Prince Caspian score or movie. The Incredible Hulk. I liked what Elfman cooked for the other Hulk film and am interested in what Craig Armstrong comes up with. This is his chance to prove himself and show us what he's got. The movie looks like a dumb comic book action movie that'll only be better than Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four movies, Elektra, Blade Trinity, X3, Spidey 3,etc. I don't thjink it'll surpass or even rival Iron Man. IMO. The Happening. JNH is gold when he's scoring an M. Night movie. As for the movie I don't trust Wahlberg but the movie does have an interesting plot and M. Night going R-rated in this one so this does peak my interest. Wanted. Danny Elfman is scoring it and that is the ONLY reason why I'm interested in this movie. The movie took a crap on the Graphic Novel. Wall-e. This is a different genre for Thomas Newman to tackle. I'm talking about sci-fi. So i'm interested to see what he comes up with eventhough I'm not really a big Newman fan. The movie looks dull. The guy that directed Finding Nemo directed this . I thought Nemo was decent nothing else, but overrated. Hancock. I'm just interested to see what Jon Powell comes up with because I think Hancock should be scored in the direction of X3 and less like United 93 and the Bourne movies. But with Peter Berg directing Powell's probably going to go the Bourne movies and Jumper direction. The movie looks interesting too. Hellboy II. I'm sad to see Beltrami go because he really added a lot to the first film and a lot to Del Toro's movies. Since I enjoy a lot of Elfman's scores I can forgive Del Toro. It is interesting to see what Elfman comes up with for Del Toro. He always seems to get inside twisted directors head with his music ex. Burton, Raimi, and Barker. The movie looks amazing. Plus it's a Del Toro movie it already has my ticket. The Dark Knight. I wasn't happy with the last score or film . But this new movie looks to be the Batman film Begins wasn't. You're hearing this from a BIG batman fan.The score suck or not I'll buy it because I'm a completist. I don't know yet if the score is going to be good especially if Zimmer says Joker has two notes for a theme. Sad if this film delivers and the score doesn't. At least BB was uninsopired for me as well as the score. So Zimmer had an excuse the last time.

Goldsmith's "Poltergeist II: The Other Side"
lonzoe replied to GoldsmithFanatic2000+'s topic in General Discussion
Poltergeist II is definitely a classic score from Goldsmith. I can't get enough of it. I got it back in December from last year. I play it constantly. The new themes he wrote for that one were also great (Taylor, Grandma's and of course Kane's).All the tracks are great so It's hard to pick a favorite. The synth stuff was also a treat. I remember when I saw P2 on AMC back in October. I remember thinking I gotta get that score. That's amazing a year before P2 he scored the second Rambo movie. Goldsmith was very versatile. Poltergeist II is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores. -
To show my support for TMOS movie and cast. That's the point of my presence.

Yeah, he did Darkman, but once in a while he had Bartek or Walker do a cue when he would run out of time, and it's listed in the movie credits along with the cue title. Not ghostwriting! I think he's gotten much faster, so he doesn't need to do that. But Walker's cue was really fantastic. However, Walker said he gave her some material to work with, so the riff I love in it may very well be Elfman. Great of the man to credit her anyway. Actually Jonathan Sheffer got creditted for additional music for Darkman. It says so in the credits. It doesn't say what cue.According to Ryan Keveaney it was for the Helicopter scene where Darkman was hanging on the rope running into traffic and buildings. Shirley Walker wrote a cue for Nightbreed not Darkman. It also says so in the credits. So you're wrong there. I hate when people give false info like that.

Oh yeah this JWFAN I better stop saying anything about Williams before I get flamed. So I'll say I want Singer, Bosworth , Routh, and the supporting cast back for TMOS. And of course JOHN OTTMANback for TMOS.
-
*sigh* That old red herring. First, Williams was never offered SR, Ottman is Singer's composer. Second, not liking the score has nothing to do with Williams not doing it. It's because it's bland, boring, and hurts the film more than helps it. Oh, and a small tip: randomly capitalizing words doesn't make your point any better. That's in your opinion that it hurt the film. That scene where Superman flew into the sunlight for a sun charge that music was amazing and really impacted the scene. I don't think Williams could've done any better. BTW do you have a source that says Williams was never offered. That's what I thought.
-
I enjoyed SR as well. I thought that it was actually better than Batman Begins. And you're hearing this from a HUGE batman fan. The reason I say that b/c I was very disappointed in BB on opening day. To me it was another Batman/Superhero/Comic Book movie. It should've been called Bateman Begins instead of Batman Begins. Bale was just a water down Patrick Bateman instead of Bruce Wayne. His performance was on autopilot IMO. They shouldn't have used the rubber suit either. If you're not connected to the other films then why use it. Rubber has gotten dated anyways. Schumacher made a joke out of that material. Enough about BB. About SR and Spidey 3. Spidey was a DISAPPOINTMENT. BTW, I came in Spidey 3 expecting a DISSAPOINTMENT. So Spidey 3 didn't live up to the disappointment I expected it to be it was worse. I almost thought Tim Story directed that movie and not Sam Raimi. I already lost respect for Sam after what he did to Elfman in #2. Speaking of scores Spiderman 3 score by Young was a JOKE. SR score was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAY better than that. I thought the SR score was great anyways. I can't wait to see what he comes up with the sequel with his themes from SR.So get off Ottman's back . Some of you are just PISSED because Johnny didn't score SR. He turned it down so blame him. BTW , I can't wait for TMOS. I'm also not bashing Williams. I'm a big fan of him as well.
