  1. Looking forward to Revolutions (though that one's gonna have to wait since there's other releases from LLLR, Intrada, and Varese I have yet to pick up and don't want to miss out on)and Escape From LA. Just wish Escape Fom LA had more than 1500 copies. I don't want to miss that one, b/c I don't own the 1996 Milan release. And I'm a fan of both Carpenter and Walker's music, in general. Looks like we'll be getting plenty of Walker this year. Last week S:TAS , next week Escape From LA, and hopefully some time later this year B:TAS Vol.3. Now if only some label can reissue Walker's Memoirs Of An Invisible Man since that's been long OOP. Maybe Varese will next week, but I'm not holding my breath on that happening.

  2. So Webb approached Jablonsky before Zimmer to score TAS-M2.

That opens a good segue for my next question. I know you touched on this earlier. Is there a property franchise or anything that you'd like to work on, be it TV or video games? Is there anything that, "Man, I'd love to score that".

That's a good question. There was actually...I don't know if I'm supposed to say this but whatever, nobody told me not to. I did get a call months and months ago about the next SPIDER-MAN and that Marc [Webb], the director, was interested. He liked my work and that was terrific. I was all excited. I've never done a superhero movie and I know there are a lot of them out there, but it would be a great one to do. I literally woke up the next morning, sat up in bed and went, "Oh my God, I have Transformers 4 to do," right on top of each other. I called my agent and all I said was, "Transformers 4", and he said, "All right." We had to call Sony and said, "We're sorry." They were very respectful, "We don't want to interfere with your relationship with Michael". I was sad, but I do have to stick with Michael. They were two huge projects and they would be the same exact schedule and it would be impossible to do both, to do a good job on both if I was trying to do them at the same time. -

After reading that it makes me wonder if Webb hadn't any intention to re-team with Horner for the sequel. He probably always had an RCP composer in mind for TAS-M2.

  3. Zimmer did a Q&A today with fans on Reddit

Some fans asked about TAS-M 2.

How would you say your approach to the new Spiderman will differ from the previous James Horner's installment?

Completely and utterly different. I have a wonderful band including Johnny Marr, Pharrell Williams, Mike Einziger, Ann Marie Calhoun, Arturo Sandoval, it goes on.

    Hello, sir!

On the upcoming Spider-Man score, how did you approach the music to differentiate it from what you´ve done for The Dark Knight-movies and Man of Steel? And will you reference James Horner´s theme from the first movie in any way?

    Thanks a lot!

I try to approach it from the character's point of view. The character is a lot younger than any of those other superheroes and he's not as dark. I was thinking, how does a college graduate deal with their emotion? And I thought it wouldn't be Wagnarian Hans and slushy strings, but more of a post-rock approach.

It doesn't surprise me Zimmer would take the more contemporary progressive rock approach with this score. Especially with the likes of Johnny Marr, Pharell Williams, etc. involved. As disappointed as I am about Horner being unable to return I'm still cuious of how Zimmer's score will turn out in the end. It makes sense why he woud take the approach he's taking with the Parker/Spider-Man character. Just hope the score is fresh and unique from any of his previous work.

  4. I liked the trailer enough. I agree that some of the action in the daylight looks a little cartoony, but it looks like it can be effective. As long as the story, characters, and acting are good you can believe just about anything. In a way I'm sorta sad they're trying to build up to the Sinister Six in such a short amount of time. I wouldn't have minded this spread out over 4 or 5 films. I think the scope of the storytelling and villainy was upped a bit too high, too quickly.

If they hadn't retold the origin, but instead was a loose sequel of the Raimi trilogy, the Sinister Six wouldn't feel as rushed at this point. I know Sony felt Spider-man 3 hadn't given 'em an option, but still. I agree if you're going to start over from scratch then I'd rather the build up of the Sinister Six spread a few films, but Sony felt the need to keep up with the MCU films instead.

  5. It's one of the more overrated themes out there. I like Walker's Batman theme.

To each his own. It's better than a ton of the superhero themes and movie themes in general out today, imho.

Well... not exactly. But there was a legal requirement for them to do it, for whatever reason. She didn't intend to and no one working on the show liked Elfman's theme.

    Karol

    News to me.

    From her last interview

JT: Right. Danny Elfman’s Batman theme...first of all, did you do the credits arrangement?

SW: Ooh...I know Mark McKenzie was involved in arranging Danny’s theme. I think...boy, I would have to research that, but I’m pretty sure that’s correct. So I...I didn’t do any arrangement of any of Danny’s theme.

JT: It appears in some of the early episodes, and although it continued to be used regularly for the credits sequences, in the episodes themselves it was—it seems like it was very quickly supplanted by your original theme. Was the plan, originally, to use Elfman’s theme more extensively?

SW: No...the producers on the Batman series did not like Danny’s theme.

    JT: Oh?

SW: They met with him. And at the meeting with him, they really didn’t like him, either. They were basically forced to use his theme. It was a situation where Danny’s agent, I think, Richard Kraft, threatened to, um...because Danny was doing another film with Tim Burton...I forget the sequence here, but they were calling up and threatening that if they didn’t use the theme, then they were gonna, you know, Danny was going to quit working on the movie, and all this...you know, just silly, typical Hollywood stuff.

    Karol

You've refreshed my memory on the subject. I do remember reading about this feud over the theme.

  6. Funny how out of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America is the only one that has a musical theme to repeat in more than one movie, and it's now repeated in three! The power of Silvestri!

Hopefully Jackman will adapt it for next year's Winter Soldier, but I doubt it.
