  1. Yes, but not for free. You have to be a member of ASMAC to get access to the archive of all their recorded zoom presentations. Since it's a professional industry organization, they charge dues. The events themselves aren't free unless you are a member or member of partner organization. ASMAC - Join ASMAC
  2. Today, I purchased a mattress. I just happened to have a Star Wars t-shirt on and got in a debate with the salesman about Star Wars. He was a geek and we spent 30 minutes debating plots. Thankfully, no one else was in the mattress store but it was surreal that I was literally debating third sister, siths, Palpatine, jedi younglings, Kylo Ren's arch with the guy who wanted to sell me a mattress. That mattress I bought better not have an evil course on it!
  3. An interesting choice. That's sort of a hybrid score-source. The pirates are singing but the orchestra is score.
  4. That reminded me of this for some reason... That's groovy man, just groovy.
  5. Do we have a list of all Johnny's source music? It's not easy to track down exactly what he composed versus someone else like Joseph Williams for example. And I think in some cases the source music was adapted by JW but composed by someone else like "Anything Goes" from Temple of Doom, "I Only Have Eyes for You" played on Gigolo Joe in A.I. and "When you wish upon a star" from CEOTK. Remember, source music is music composed for the film that is heard in scene by the characters such as Jabba palace, Cantina Band or music on tv, radio, or background performers. The characters "hear" the source music. Some of mine include: * 10 Commandments from Close Encounters * Cartoon from Jurassic Park * Salsa music from India Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull What are some of your favorites? By the way, I'm really loving Crystal Skull OST which I haven't heard in years. Check out this gem, did our Johnny really write this (@1:12) ???
  6. Lennie is a fantastic composer!
  7. We spell it as Schoenberg and pronounce it as Schernberg!! He taught at my school and we have Schoenberg Hall and I have no idea how exactly to pronounce it correctly but generally use the "er".
  8. Maybe I'm totally wrong - let's see if a native speaker ways in. How do you say it? Schoenberg? I thought of it as these are letters that don't translate directly so you get lots or variations in translation. Rachmaninoff versus Rachmaninov. I can never spell Søderlind correctly because don't know what that letter is but treat it as an "o" to the frustration of Norwegians!
  9. Yeah, he's great! Funny too (or at least I like his humor). I edited my response to include Schönberg. I can't really speak to how Brits say it but I hear the later as pronounced Schernberg using the same reasoning.
  10. Is this Robert Greenberg? I think the Kurshel pronunciation is correct. I've seen in German, the 'ö' is pronounced 'er'. An ordinary 'o' has a slightly elongated 'o' sound so would have been more Kochel. It's the same with Schönberg where it get's pronounced as Schernberg.
  11. That's a sci-fi feature film style score! The instrumentation is massive for TV with winds in 3 (12 winds), 6 horns 3 trumpets 4 trombones, tuba, timpani, 3 percussionists, harp, piano, 26 violins, 10 viola, 8 cello, 6 double bass so 82 musicians total recorded at 20th Century Fox, Neuman Scoring Stage. Those stats are on par with the scores of E.T., Jurassic Park, Star Wars (except that usually includes additional percussion and choir), but major blockbuster scores. Just amazing how polished some streaming/tv shows have become.
  12. You're right about that! He's very punctual too...I met him once backstage and asked for a quick picture. It was 9:00am the exact second the rehearsal window started. He said "at another time because rehearsal was starting". The orchestra was already tuned and he was at the podium by 9:00 and ready for a downbeat. No extra discussion or anything, not in a rush, just in total command of the schedule.
  13. I totally agree. In fact, third sister shouldn't have known that was his name. that was a misstep. She should only know him as Vader. I frankly wish they had more of a stare down. '60's western style. No words and no engagement at all. Just let the eyes, body, and music tell the story for a minute of just tense build before Ben escapes since he's been found. He knows he'll lose. And leave it at that. That totally would have worked if they had faith in the fans. @Jaycan this thread title be changed to include "spoilers" since this is on demand and I handn't seen the episode, not realizing what happened till minutes ago. Would prefer not to know ahead of time that this is a spoiler thread.
  14. But that's tonight! Also, Gabriella Smith is a fantastic young composer! What a wonderful program. Damn, we're in the renaissance of great music, there is so much talent and fine music being made.
  15. In a bout of sleeplessness last night, youtube presented me with the first episode of The Outer Limits 1963. I LOVED it!!! How is the rest of the series? Is it worth seeing? I'll have to subscribe to it to watch so please let me know if worth it. I assume it's not as fantastic as Twilight Zone since not as highly regarded. For example, more monster of the week than thought provoking, complex stories with great music, excellent actors, writers, directors, etc. Am I wrong? TZ had the best writers working in sci-fi, the best composers (Herrmann, Goldsmith, Steiner, etc.), best writers (Serling, Matheson, Beaumont, G.C. Johnson, Harlan Ellison, Bradbury), etc.
  16. That's because Johnny has looked the same for the past sixty years. This shocked me...Sir Patrick Stewart is about the same age as Harrison Ford who I think looks way younger.
  17. It's definitely not direct. More like how Aniken's theme reference's Imperial March. There is no doubt there is a connection but it's not a direct quote. It's a variation. A nod...a tip of the hat. I just worked on a suite of themes and had it in my head and heard it, then thought...hey wait...I know that and crossed checked it and confirmed it.
  18. Did you guys catch that the ostinato at 1:44 is a variation of Battle of the Heroes? This musical tip of the hat is one of the reasons I adore Johnny so much. He cares about the narrative and story, he isn't just phoning anything in.
  19. I really love this exciting work!
  20. I loved it! Cast is great and script seems to be directed by people who actually love trek *cough* jjabrams *cough*. Definitely feels closer to Rodenberry's vision than trek has been in decades. One thing I wish they didn't do was... Definitely makes me want to see next episodes.
  21. The concert was absolutely fantastic! I heard some music I hadn't heard before resulting in me checking out the soundtrack after the concert. Wonderful and diverse program and it could have gone on for four more hours if you stuck IV's in the musicians arms. Wonderful concert and still reminded of how missed he is.
  22. Looks great! The story lines are quite good and score/sfx are fantastic! Interestingly, the show has already surpassed Battlestar Galactica (1978 series) which had 24 episodes total (first 3 were the 3-hour premiere movie) and 12 episodes as part of the ill-conceived Galactica 1980, yet that show garnered a cult following and was popular with fans to be reborn decades later. I hope season 3 of orville dives deeper into the characters and stories it established. Like you, Jay, I way prefer Alara to Keyali.
