  1. You know, it may very well be a recording of the Overture to the Oscars. In fact, I am going to go with that as the most likely candidate.
  2. Hey John, would you be interested in scoring a title piece for a new Star Wars show? No way; absolutely not; under no circumstances. Oh, did we mention that Abrams has left Lucasfilm? Really? I would love to score it.
  3. The LSO did the same Happy Birthday thing during the ROTS sessions. Heartwarming, and, damn, that man has a lot of energy.
  4. Yes, some odd loses. However, I think him winning the AFI life achievement award, and being the first composer to do so, trumps a whole slew of Oscar wins and/or losses (depending on which you focus). It is an unparalleled honor. My guess is that in the next fifty years, one composer (at best) will receive it.
  5. Yeah, I have settled down a bit. I did not see the other thread and was shocked with the implications of this quote. I love his concert works, so I am would love nothing more for a couple more concertos. My favorite concert work is for seiji. I would love a non-concerto-type work too. However, a magnum opus piano concerto would be the perfect capstone to his career from brilliant pianist to brilliant composer.
  6. Based on early reports, it seems that Williams did not want to score IX precisely because of Abrams, but since his SW legacy was a stake, he did it. I am sure it infuriated him. However, I think Spielberg and hopefully Mangold know how to make a movie, and he knows that. In this case, I take him at this word, if you know that the rest of your life is just a handful of years, 6 months for a movie is a huge commitment in terms of any musical goals you hope to accomplish.
  7. There are exceptions. A Spielberg film is one of them. While he has not knocked one out of the park in recent years, they are always solid and have transcending moments--including (since we are on the topic) BFG. I rewatched the movie recently, the dream country sequences are marvelous, both visually and musically.
  8. Upon reflection, it would be nice to have Williams leave the business on this own terms and schedule. It is easy to loose sight of the fact that he is 90. Literally 84% of men do not reach that age, and of those that do, most are not able to be as productive as Williams. Him saying that he will give up films to focus on concert music (at 90) strikes me as very funny, but I am not sure why--like the dude is trolling us somehow.
  9. I did not see the other thread dedicated to this--I will post there.
  10. I cannot open the article for some reason, but that quote is depressing. He is confirming that this is it for film scoring? This is a big announcement, if accurate.
  11. An offspring is insignificant next to the power of Williams. Just kidding: Congrats on the baby.
  12. Do you think the coat would cover the turtleneck? Williams is the opposite of who should win this award. Will he take the train to get there? This award sounds like a real bear.
  13. At least steal from a lesser known piece. Close Encounters of the Communist Kind.
  14. Probably--however, the transformative special effects would have won it an audience either way. Jaws would have been vastly inferior with a normal "scary" score. In its case, the special effects would have brought it down.
  15. I guess my issue is with the reporting--these are respected news outlets. They should simply be accurate and say "Lynch joined the cast," or "Lynch is part of the cast." The present tense "joins" in such a case is misleading and/or false. I suppose it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I still find it annoying.
  16. Giacchino's rationale for his choice is quite good and thoughtful. Danna is correct about Home Alone, which does prove the point about potential of film music to literally transform (or degrade, I suppose) a film.
  17. A bit odd for someone to join the cast when the film is in post production. Maybe he narrates? Or was he already in it and it is just now being announced?
  18. I did not realize that--nor did I even know what a fabel was. But, I looked it up and now I know.
  19. This might be the best piece of its kind written on Williams--informative, analytical, and compelling. A mention of the Fablemans would make me happier, but Indy works for the global audience.
