  1. A scherzo and a march. Give me a fugue in there and it will be a perfect soundtrack.
  2. After listening to that mockup, I am no longer of the opinion that it is Rey's theme. In fact, I am no longer confident it is even Williams--I would put it at no better than a 60% chance that it is.
  3. Williams looks, at most, like a man in his early 70's. Seiji, well he looks his age.
  4. He is still confirmed for Philly in May. My guess is he will perform TFA music at that concert, though obviously scheduling order to determine the "premiere."
  5. I think we all would be irritated if that happened. What puzzles me is why people are angry now when it has not happened and in the highest of probabilities will not happen.
  6. There are good guys, bad guys, explosions, more explosions, a mystical energy field that binds all living things together, more explosions, unnecessary robot banter, more explosions, and a transcendent score that makes the whole thing feel awesome versus trite and stupid.
  7. Had Sandor mentioned before the trailer that a source mentioned we would get a snippet of the score would we still be in doubt to the degree we are? He seems to trust his source.
  8. While I still think the snippet is Williams, it is a very odd choice to debut his new work in a commercial--and not even in the first commercial. I guess we will have to wait a month to sort this stuff out. I remain convinced that Williams has not "lost it" when it comes to big blockbuster scoring. He simply has not had a real opportunity since TPM and Harry Potter.
  9. Here is my take on what I have read above: the cue is not a "blow your socks off" sort of thing we are hoping for, and thus maybe it is not Williams. However, the theme is too good to be the work of a pedestrian composer, and, thus, the most reasonable explanation is that it is Williams (though messed with for the trailer). For my part, I think it is Williams and I think it is Rey's theme (or at least part of her theme). If that is the case, I would not mind as it is very different from his previous "feminine" themes.
  10. It was very Williamsy, both in theme and orchestration. A nice little mystery/foreboding cue.
  11. The new tv spot from the preview. There is a musical theme in it I have not heard previously. I have no clue anymore as to the composer. Admin note: The poll was added by me, not by Tom!Admin note 2: Click here to read the confirmation that it was Williams
  12. This promo uses the main theme for the first half, but I cannot place the music from the second half. Is it ESB? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDd9EcJxnb4
  13. Maybe JJ can convince Spielberg to edit all of his personal "Williams at work" recordings into a documentary of sorts. We might get a lot more of these little insights into how Williams rolls.
  14. metaphors, similes and such are not all that uncommon, are they?
  15. in terms of old vs new themes, I would think Disney would want to feature the latter. they want to make lots of money on this; but just as importantly, they want to hook the audience onto the new characters for ongoing success and strong musical identification furthers that end. that being said, I don't think they are/were all that hands on during the scoring process.
  16. The whole notion of evaluating a theme due to its "iconic" nature is a bit odd. To be "iconic" necessarily means to be well known and thus is dependent on factors outside of musical quality. Beethoven's Ode to Joy is probably not well known to billions in the world due to a lack of a proper vehicle, but that says nothing about its musical quality. similarly, most non-Americans do not know the NBC mission theme and thus it is not "iconic," but who gives a damn, it is still a top-notch piece of music.
  17. Perhaps it is a theme, perhaps a motif. I would not take the word of an actor to count as evidence toward one vs the other, though it is evidence that there is one or the other.
  18. No needless proliferation of threads rule. Okay, kill or merge it.
  19. Well, we have been speculating about TFA for some time, perhaps it is time for groundless thoughts about BFG. One would think with TFA recorded, Williams will begin composing for BFG in the next month or so. I am completely unfamiliar with the story, so for those who grew up with the story, what should we expect?
