  1. Anakin, you've grown up! The OT remains superb escapist fun.
  2. It would be cool if the last session was the end credits suite (which would also be an ideal time for the cast to be present, as it would be a more relaxed piece to record).
  3. Just out of curiosity, does a session equal one day or can it be multi-day sort of thing?
  4. I love the music of John Williams, but have you ever noticed that every piece that he has composed sucks? What is up with that?
  5. like Frakes? have you seen him lately, I don't think he'll make it.
  6. I dunno..I think Williams was more sick than was led to believe and had to skip all summer recording He is a man in his eighties with moderate to severe back problems. What do you want? When we are that age, we will not have back problems, because we will be dead.
  7. It would seem so. While I don't want to see Williams put through the ringer, I cannot wait for a Star Wars score not chopped up and mashed. Besides, based on these JoAnn quotes, it sounds as if Williams is really enjoying this.
  8. How about this for a new Williams' quote: JoAnn Kane Music Svc‏@JKMSlibrary 9h9 hours ago More #johnwilliams from the podium. "My dream is that note for the brass will be louder than anything Verdi's got" https://twitter.com/JKMSlibrary/status/653268834355314689
  9. It seems too early for the full score, but Williams could be recording some sequences early for animating purposes, similar to what he did for Tintin.
  10. The new piece is a very nice "mood setter." I like how it captures the atmosphere of the scene in the movie played immediately after. It sounds right at home with the original soundtrack, but you can hear just a touch of modern Williams sensibilities. The rise of such live performance with the movie really is going to benefit the longevity of Williams work in terms of live performances. I hope you treats future movie events with such care (concert ending to the first half and entr'acte). Can you imagine hearing ESB from start to finish live?
  11. let the bland, and ultimately pointless, seven year journey begin. Starring "Neelix," the character who was Jar Jar before there was a Jar Jar.
  12. So, in the context of the poll on Leia's vs Anakin's theme, I mentioned that Leia's theme (and associated concert piece) was among the greatest, if not the greatest, romantic pieces of the 20th century. TGP brushed this aside as hyperbole, and perhaps due to my excessive fondness of Williams, it is. So, what do you (anyone) think the top five classical pieces of the 20th century of the same vein as Leia's theme are? I am not sure the word "romantic" captures what I have in mind, as I don't mean simply a love song. By same vein, I mean lyrical and lush in the romantic classical tradition, a la Tchaikovsky of the 19th century.
  13. Somewhat unfair of a comparison. Leia's theme is arguably not only the best theme of SW; it may well be the best romantic piece of the 20th century. So, yes Leia's theme is better, but that says very little about the quality of Anakin's theme, which is a nice child-like string piece with overtones of a more serious nature. If it means anything, I like Anakin's theme over the luke/leia sibling theme, which I find a bit too insistent.
  14. Good to see he looks healthy, even if his voice is not what it once was.
  15. The wait continues. Up until now, I figured the main title would be traditional one, and I still do. However, could Williams have a surprise in store and have a new one. We know he wanted to do it for the prequel trilogy. Disney would like the safe bet, but one would think if Williams convinced JJ, it could happen.
  16. I think the car commercial really does sound like Williams; the other two, not so much. But if the latter two are not Williams, then it is highly doubtful the first is. Damn fine job, though, on the car commercial.
  17. That is Williams. if it is not, whoever composed that is my second favorite composer.
  18. It looks like the LA philharmonic will perform the piece in April: http://www.laphil.com/tickets/sounds-about-town-colburn-orchestra/2016-04-24
  19. Thank you for the responses. I did not know that Remembrances was originally the main theme--cool info.
  20. So, every non-Perlman recording and performance of the suite uses the logical order of theme, Jewish town, remembrances--logical insofar as remembrances is a development of the main theme. Yet, every time Perlman perform it, such as the recent LA DVD, he flips the first and third. Is there a reason for this? Usually the order of movements is not random, and this suite really makes more sense the non-Perlman way.
