The imperial parade/celebratory gathering could lead to an awesome musical cue. I hope it includes a new bad-guy march.- 1,120 replies

The Force Awakens 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' SCORE speculation
Tom replied to Ricard's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I hope the new trailer has new music, but I am not counting on it. I doubt Williams recorded a piece for a then non-existent trailer in Nov and we have not heard of any new recording sessions since then.- 1,120 replies

New Lucasfilm / Star Wars Intro Fanfare (Fox Fanfare Replacement)
Tom replied to Saxman717's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I would say that there is a 99% chance Williams will write a new logo piece for episode 7. Speaking of such things, does anyone here with Hollywood recording connections know when the first recording sessions will be? -

Having to explain that makes it less funny. Okay, my bad for not recognizing a joke. That being said, the joke lacked any humorous content--hence my confusion. -

Wouldn't not using orchestrators be a sign of better health? The Spielberg bit is nonsense. -

Perhaps I am too focused on the Tanglewood concert piece, but this is good news for it. If Williams has extra time for SW, he must have already completed that piece. -
1999 deserves an honorable mention: TPM, Angela's Ashes, Tributes for Seiji, and Unfinished Journey.

NEWMAN OUT, JW BACK IN FOR "SPIES": OFFICIAL.

unfortunately, due to timing of this, Williams must pass on SW7. His son Joseph will be handling the scoring duties. -
What was John Williams' first sign of true greatness?
Tom replied to Sandor's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I see that I am the only person to mention his Essay for Strings, which is a 60s composition. May I ask why others do not see it as an early (predating all of the early 70s stuff) sign of greatness? Is it too Hermannesque to be considered great or original? I find it to be one of his most compelling concert works from any decade. -
On my wish list would be a double album of fresh recordings of SW concert pieces (similar to the OT skywalker symphony) with the LSO. Maybe once Williams has decided to call it quits with scoring SW movies, he would do such a thing.

Essay for Strings. -
If you do not have the Memoirs suite (regardless of whether you have the OST), the set is well worth the price--think of the rest as two free bonus cds.

In terms of the Hollywood orchestra, is Tim Morrison still was on Williams's regulars?

In terms of TownerFan's concern, it is somewhat legitimate, but this is not the first time it has happened to Williams. Most recently Tintin was recorded over the course of a year (I think it was that long). I think SW7 process is far superior to the OCD Lucas approach of the prequels in terms of what we will get.

My guess is that by "several months" it will be similar to Tintin. there will basically be two recording sessions separated by, in this case, three months or so.

This is a good thing for LA studio musicians, particularly given the rise of synthesized scores, and if it makes JW's life easier, then I am all for it.

Looking at the concert programs, it seems that the new Williams's work is longer in nature--otherwise they would be short concerts (particularly the Tanglewood on parade). I think there is good chance that this work is the reason Williams could not do BOS (along with the hiccup in health). Perhaps I am getting too old, but I prefer a longer concert work to a new (non-Star Wars) film score.
