Ah, so you got the Star Wars Main Theme.

    Update:
I just checked the terminology on the original 1977 vinyl, and it reads "Main Title" while the themes are outlined in a separate text, which even describes a "Ben Kenobi's Theme".

Mea culpa.  Ya, couldn't quite remember at the time what the piece was called, (Disney officially designating the movie as 'Star Wars: A New Hope' didn't help my brain any).
It occurred to me that I really haven't heard it that often recently.   Instead we usually get the "Throne Room and End Title".  So I was rather happy they included it.

Update: 'it' == "Star Wars Main Theme"  (thanks for the reminder BB-8 )

Yes, go see him.  I was listening to the concerto today.  Yes, it does not sound (for the most part) like his film music, but, damn, there are some great moments even for the causal listener.

Go to the concert.  Have the missus check out the bar during the concerto and enjoy the rest of the concert.

There is no “right” or “wrong” approach when it comes to listening to any music. You should not feel lacking in knowledge or expertise if you find hard to connect with some of the above-mentioned concert works. When it comes to Williams, it’s understandable to feel this way because most of his film music (especially the most popular pieces) is so immediate and tuneful while also being sophisticated and refined in its craft, so we can relate to it very quickly and easily. Plus, most of it is associated with films that are imprinted in our memory to the point it feels part of our DNA, so to speak.

Williams’ works for the concert hall (especially the concerti) belong to a very different category, they’re mostly abstract in their nature and detached to any programmatic nature (i.e. music that purposefully describes a specific picture). You should just try to sit down, listen to it and focus on how this music makes you feel (while trying also to appreciate its intrinsic musical qualities). You should start focusing on the aspects that you like or speak more directly to you. If it feels harder to grasp them, don’t feel diminished by it. Sometimes works of art need time to unlock our souls. Not everything is immediate. Back in the day I too found difficult to tune in with some of those concert works, but time really helped in finding more and more beauty in them to the point that nowadays I find them as engaging and stimulating as his film music and sometimes even more. Give yourself time ☺️

If you’ll forgive me being brutally honest, I think you might be asking for something that doesn’t exist.

I haven’t listened to all (or, probably, even most) of his substantial concerto output, but I have found a completely different kind of listening pleasure in them than I find in his film work or his ‘accessible’ concert works such as the Olympic stuff. It’s quite understandable that a person could love some types of his works but not others and it might be that this describes your situation. If you try the suggestions I that you will no doubt get here and don’t get anywhere, don’t worry - you just might be someone for whom JW’s concertos do nothing. It doesn’t make you a bad person!

Glad that Obi-Wan is included as well.
I was able to enjoy it at Star Wars Celebration (while amazed that JW was conducting), but that was the first time anyone had heard it - so will be nice to listen to it again, this time being far more familiar.

Still a lil disappointed that we have not heard his "Rise of Skywalker" theme performed live at the Bowl tho.  Ah well, "maybe next year"

That or Raiders’ March seem to be Williams’ go-to encores, especially if ET is already in the main program.

Neat that the Kenobi theme is getting another live performance. Bummer it wasn’t included in any of the recent East Coast concerts! I hope everyone here who’s going has fun.

I know they have done programs split between Williams and other film scores in recent years, but I guess I figured - it being the 90th year celebration - that Williams would be the sole focus. Guess I need to listen to some of the unfamiliar ones.
