  1. But the rest? Been there, done that. and better. critics dismissed them, they had Spielberg pidgenholed as a pure entertainment director.
  2. The score is very good, but a bit less so than the 2 first masterpieces. Funny, yes, but to the detraction of characters. Markus Brody and Sallah are now goofy sidekicks, which is not fitting to their depiction in Raiders. The action scenes are underwhelming in comparison to 1 and 2, the special effects not so special. On the whole I get the impression of Spielberg not wanting to do this, but doing it nevertheless after 2 not so successful serious films.
  3. Connery is the only brilliant thing in that movie which is otherwise a lame repeat of the first one. 2 and 4 at least tried to do something different, with varying success.
  4. I agree, the reconstructed finale of the 9th is still underappreciated. Many still think that the Adagio is the fitting finale for the symphony, but in reality they are just used to it.
  5. I assume you are just trolling, but seriously: Tintin boring? War Horse embarrassing? I dont think so.
  6. Look at Amazon.de, there are lots of cheap copies
  7. They are not bad and I like the music, but there are lots of classical recordings easily surpassing this in clarity and fidelity.
  8. Has anybody heard the Harrison Ford and JW interviews on the bonus CD yet? Is there a transcript somewhere? What do they say?
  9. For me the ideal compromise would be live to projection of the film, but without sound effects, only dialogue during the passages with music. in my Raiders concert, the sound effects sometimes overpowered the music too much.
  10. Finally I came around to mix the OST and FYC. I closely followed Jay´s list (without edits), but put the Scherzo behind Ways of the Force and took the OST End Credits because of their alternate rendering of the March. Great listening!
  11. To clarify: I did not make a list of the best tracks, but tried to imagine how an album of this length might have been produced. As we know, not always the best tracks are included, because of other considerations like variety etc., but also reprise of known themes.
  12. I am wondering how this soundtrack would have been released in 1983, in the times of 40 something soundtrack albums. Perhaps something like: Side A Main Title and the Attack on the Jakku Village (6:25) Rey's Theme (3:11) March of the Resistance (2:35) Snoke (2:03) I Can Fly Anything (3:11) The Starkiller (1:51) Han and Leia (4:41) Side B Scherzo for X-Wings (2:32) Torn Apart (4:19) Kylo Ren Arrives at the Battle (2:01) The Ways of the Force (3:15) Farewell And The Trip (4:55) The Jedi Steps and Finale (8:51)
  13. Me too. On the other hand I find it striking that Williams started using minimalism in A.I. the year after The Matrix, used wailing woman a few years after all the others and is now composing some action music in a style that remotely reminds me of Zimmer, e.g. The Duel in Tintin reminds me of Pirates of the Carabean. But probably it is all in my head...
  14. I hope this is the right place to post. I am only a music hobbyist, but I wrote a short duo for 2 violins a while ago and then recorded it, playing both parts by myself. I now finally got around to post it on youtube: So, if you are interested, have a listen! It is only 5 min. Extra points for the person who can tell the chord progression I borrowed from the main theme of Wrath of Khan.
  15. Not quite. The End Credits are a kind of best of the themes. The 2 Tracks before show exemplary how Williams works with themes and motifs.
  16. I love how the last 3 tracks form a kind of miniature suite on its own. I often just start with the Scherzo and let play to the end if I do not have much time. The essence of the score in 15 minutes.
  17. Only the B part, not the beginning with the Force theme in the trumpets. That is Dvorak. No it isn't, it's the Force theme on trumpets. Joke? I did say exactly that, if you read my post. But if you compare it to the Dvorak piece, its clear where the inspiration came from. And it is know that the Dvorak was on the temp track there.
  18. Ditto. Reminds a bit of the variation of the Raiders March Theme in KOTCS associated with Mutt. One of the things I really like in that Score.
  19. Only the B part, not the beginning with the Force theme in the trumpets. That is Dvorak.
  20. The Throne Room was mainly based on the beginning of the finale of Dvorak Symphonie No 9 (after the intro which may have been the inspiration for Jaws, by the way) which was temptracked there.
  21. So, Jim Ware, are you going to every performance? :-) And what about the score restore? I did not notice anything, but wasn´t looking for it. Now I am curious...
