Stumbled on this soundtrack and listened to it. I like it! Has an optimistic touch that has gotten rare.
The rhythmic motiv reminds of John Adams minimalism, its harmonic constant mediant changes of Horners Star Trek II
In some way this score seems to be more Star Trek than his Star Trek scores, perhaps due to its mentioned optimistic (naive?) characteristic.
Pin-Ultimate experience is a great listen and reminds me of the old John Williams set pieces, at a time, where a composer could actually write a 5 min concert piece to a movie sequence.

I feel with you. I feel the same with Empire of the Sun which is among Spielbergs best and most ambitious in my opinion. I guess the failure of this movie shook him very much, and lead to a string of mediocre movies: Indy 3, Always, Hook, Jurassic Park (yes, it is not a very good movie compared to Jaws or Raiders!). Only the financial success of the latter together with the critical success of his masterpiece Schindlers List restored his faith in his abilities, leading to an astounding second successful career as "mature" Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, A.I., Minority Report etc.)

I want them to reign the comedy right the fuck in on this new one, especially the screwball stuff. Raiders is very funny in parts, but it's entirely incidental and almost always the result of Ford's wry performance. Laughs are never the focus. More of that please.

Dammit, give me the Tintin sequels already!!!
The first was the most adventurous fun film I had seen in years. Visually inventive too.
Also quite silly at times, but better to do silly in something that is already a cartoon (ship being lifted out of the water during a sea battle??? And refueling the plane!) than in a live action film (nuke+fridge<brilliant. Not to mention gophers, groins and Tarzan. Also aliens).
So how about Spielberg and Jackson stop wasting time doing unimportant stuff and MAKE GOOD ON THEIR PROMISES ALREADY!

Sorry.... got carried away there a bit.

Finally I came around to mix the OST and FYC. I closely followed Jay´s list (without edits), but put the Scherzo behind Ways of the Force and took the OST End Credits because of their alternate rendering of the March. Great listening!

No problem. I can't do it often but sometimes things like these, I love to pay a lot of money for them and then share them, it's kinda what I do $400 so everyone can enjoy a lossless and expanded soundtrack to an iconic movie? Worth it.

I hope this is the right place to post. I am only a music hobbyist, but I wrote a short duo for 2 violins a while ago and then recorded it, playing both parts by myself. I now finally got around to post it on youtube:

So, if you are interested, have a listen! It is only 5 min. Extra points for the person who can tell the chord progression I borrowed from the main theme of Wrath of Khan.

I was there, meeting with an old friend. Great concert! The Luzerne concert hall, one of the best acoustics in the world, seemed virtually sold out. Some impressions:
Sound from the movie was hollow and difficult to understand. It overshadowed some more subtle passages like the Basket game, unfortunately. Other times, when the brass was on full, the orchestra drowned out the movie sound, which was fine by me. This shows how much dynamic range is reduced in the mixing of the movie sound. I especially liked the fat tuba sound!
after a while there was a small synchro glitch between movie picture and sound which was corrected after a while. no big deal.
Ark theme e.g. in Map room was without choir which was imitated by synthesizer. Ditto for some exotic instruments like cymbalon. OK for me.
There was an intermission when Indy starts digging at the Well of Souls. As exit music into the intermission the orchestra played a rendition of the Raiders march from the movie, don´t know exactly which. After intermission they first played Adventures of Mutt from Indy 4 without announcement, but it fitted nicely. Lead directly into part2 of the movie.
On the whole the orchestra played almost perfectly, perhaps a very few notes not quite there, but impressive feat for a complex soundtrack like this. Seemed always in sync with the picture. The fantastic concert hall enhanced the music. I was sitting in the middle of the last row on the most upper balcony and heard perfectly.
There was a whole Indiana Jones experience with dinner before the concert in an adjoining room, but very expensive. Did not participate that, the concert was enough for me. I came extra from Heidelberg to Luzern for this and no regrets!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The complete series.
My biggest impression of this show is that it has variety. Although every season has a serialised arc, so many episodes have their own identity, but aren't afraid of balancing so much in 44 minutes.
For example the episode "Hush" plays at horror through one of the most effective one-shot villains, The Gentlemen. And yet it balances that horror with powerful comedic writing and acting through pure mime because through the villains' diabolocal plan to silence the town so that people couldn's scream when they remove their hearts, the characters can no longer speak.
And other episodes are downright grim like "The Body" or beautifully complex and ambiguous like "Once More, With Feeling". I had to buy the CD of this because the music was so good.
I really crashed through this series because it was like an entertaining novel that you can't put down. I was completely hooked on Buffy's seven-year journey of self-discovery, unremitting torment and self-doubt. Every season that went along, the odds were stacked against her even more and I loved seeing how she could utilise the very few resources she had in order to defeat whatever the "Big Bad" threw at her. It even got ridiculous at times, but this is a fantasy show that embraces its own silliness.
And Sarah Michelle Gellar looks great wielding a stake.

Gurkensalat got a reaction from Bespin in Pre-Jaws OST albums: Make your top 10
Of course. I made a suite of the orchestral tracks in chronological order which takes about 20 min; its one of my most often listened to selections.
    Overture
    More Theft
    Xerox Crisis
    Make me Rainbows, instrumental
    Juliets discovery
    Lefty Louis Love Life
    Gimbels Robbery
    End Titels
It´s developing the two themes in a logical fashion and presenting the highlights of the score. Very entertaining.

Gurkensalat got a reaction from Gruesome Son of a Bitch in Jurassic Park 20th Anniversary OST (Digital only release)
OK, reviving this thread for 2 things:
First, I finally listened to the extended version with the untouched tracks in chronological order (see Post #31) and find it a much better listening experience than the OST. This way the first half is very entertaining with much variety and a lot of intersting thematical material, among others due to Stalling around. In contrast, the first half of the OST was very repetitive with the main Theme over and over due to "Theme from JP" and the early appearance of the end titles in "Welcom toJP". This was a major reason I never really warmed to this soundtrack. Now, I find it a masterpiece comparable to Raiders and Jaws.
Second, I just found one place where one can buy the 4 new tracks separately in high resolution: the new pono music portal.

One should mention BIS here, an exceptional recording Company that is producing a Lot of high quality classical Studio recordings, of familiar and unusual Repertoire. The new ones are all hirez SACDs and Downloads. They Even have Great recordings of Williams, the Tuba concerto and the Saxophone pieces of catch me if you can, which I bought for a few bucks on eclassical.com.

Whenever there is an official release for a leaked complete score, I feel morally obligated to purchase it, else I would feel being a thief. There is being put a lot of work into official expanded release by Lalala and others, which should be rewarded regardless of any Recording Sessions availability. These are just an additional bonus.

I have played on an electronic organ since 1974, so I guess, Hollywood will have had access to one, too, at the time. The organ on the CD even sounds a bit similar like the one I had.
