The more I learn about the Tintin soundtrack, the more I hunger for a complete release. It is a soundtrack that I never tire of and can listen to on repeat.

It's so heartbreaking that Tintin falls under the new AFM rules, making it effectively inaccessible to the labels. I'd love to hear this score expanded!

Stepping outside of Star Wars for a moment, here's one I'd love to see, an expanded The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn!

I think Potter as a TV series is a great idea, if they stay closer to the books in the later seasons (4-7). By that I do not only mean that they should cut less, but also avoid unnecessary changes like the stupid final duel between Harry and Voldy which reads much more cinematic and dramatic in a Sergio Leone style than the hectic action they served us in the movie.

    ah I understand.

Well I’m not an expert, but I belong to some 3D Enthusiasts Groups, and the general consensus is that 3D projector technology blows most 3D TVs out of the water.  I can say that in my experience I agree. I’ve not owned a 3D TV, but I do have a 3D projector and it’s incredible. Leaps and bounds better than the TVs I’ve seen, and sometimes even a better experience than theatrical 3D presentations.   Bottom line, if you want to be serious about 3D, get a projector.  It’s likely the reason that projectors are still being manufactured to support the format.

3D TVs are still good, and it’s my understanding the manufacturers could easily still incorporate the compatibility for little to no added cost, but they are pushing the 4K format, which in my opinion is very sad.  4K looks somewhat better (sometimes) whereas 3D is transformative in my opinion.  But 3D isn’t for everyone.  People don’t like glasses when they want to check their phones.

Also 3D fan with projector here. Jurassic Park is very good 3D, Ep. 7 has IMO the best 3D of the sequels, Tintin is fantastic in 3D, BFG was ok 3D (rented it once), nothing special. I can't think of any other Williams-scored 3D movie.

Anybody interested in 3D movies here?
I like to enjoy them on my 3D projector, and I was wondering if there is any missing in my collection.
As far as I know, the only movies released in 3D scored by JW are:
The sequel trilogy The Adventures of Tintin The BFG Also, two movies originally released in 2D have been remastered in 3D: Jurassic Park (available to purchase) and The Phantom Menace (which has never been released for home video if I am not wrong).
In terms of somehow JW-related 3D content, I am aware of Solo, Rogue One and the final chapter of Harry Potter.

Is there anything else I am missing?

I'm a 3D enthusiast!  Jurassic Park 3D has indeed been released, and it is utterly fantastic.

    Jurassic Park 3D Blu Ray

And don't forget Jaws got an absolutely incredible 3D conversion just this past September.  I am hoping and praying it gets a 3D Blu Ray.

And that is the key right there, to enjoying a good home 3D experience.  If more people had projectors, the format would likely still be thriving.  And it's not even a cost issue, but a space and setup issue.

Gurkensalat reacted to Tallguy in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021)
I finally saw this! I loved it.

    I discovered a few things:
I love (or at least like) West Side Story. I don't like the original movie. (I knew that, but I didn't know it was the movie, not the play.) (Maybe I need to give it another shot?) I get what everyone is talking about about the music now. Good heavens! (I've always love America. Who doesn't love that song?) One big thing though: The Spanish. Spielberg said that Spanish should be on equal footing with English. Except that if you watch the movie with Spanish subtitles the whole movie is in Spanish. If you watch the movie with Korean subtitles only the English is subtitled! The Spanish is not. If you watch English subtitles then you get the English in English and the Spanish in Spanish.

So it's really intended to be more like Bridge of Spies where the majority of the audience is not supposed to understand parts of the dialog. Which is a valid choice. But they weren't up front about that at all.

    And it's GORGEOUS.

I watched it with my kids. This is really the first tragedy they've ever seen. (Star Trek: Into Darkness doesn't count.) They liked it. They were a little surprised by it.

Any recommendations for other recordings of the musical?

How about this: instead of this stuff, we'll assume all these people who made it here (and weren't banned or chased out already for being massive cunts) are intelligent enough to enjoy a greatly made very enjoyable movie while also being able to tell on our own that the people depicted in it are not the real people we meet in real life. I for example work with Indians every day and if there would any unfortunate sliver of racism I'd discover in myself, it would not be because of a movie where people jump out of airplanes on inflatable rafts and tear people's hearts out while they remain alive told me to. Telling us we suck anyway or us saying "you know what, I don't enjoy this enjoyable movie then" will not stop racism or unmake the movie or make the actual dumb people not take it as face value to reinforce their already present racism.

I'll take my warning for this last post in this specific topic though I do agree it's a sad state of affairs when "racism is not good, is this racism or not" would count as a political talking point.

But you didn't leave it at that, did you?

It's one thing to say you find TOD problematic, that's your opinion. But you had to suggest the people who didn't see the film your way are "okay" with racism, which is just one step away from calling them a racist. And that's not OK, and kind of f*cked up. By suggesting someone is racist because they don't see a film they way you do, you're attacking that person in one of the most vicious ways possible. It's one of the reasons we can't have nice things here.

How about just a fun celebration of the Indy films w/o suggesting people are racists?

So, once again, try to criticise the art without having a go at the people who appreciate it.

The Thuggee cult WAS evil, by definition, and any portrayal of Thuggee cult members as evil is not racist in itself, but accurate.

India was, in fact, at the time under British Colonial Rule. It was called the Raj.  There were, in fact, Indians in the British Army. They did, in fact, fight the Thuggee. What with all the robbery, ritual murder, human sacrifice & what not. Despite the claim that there are not "positive" portrayals of Indians in the film, at the end, the Thuggee were, in fact, repelled by British Indian soldiers.

Spielberg & Lucas decided that the villains in their movie would be members of the Thuggee cult. Those cult members, were, in fact, Indians. They did, in fact, worship Kali. Anyone who came out of Temple of Doom thinking it's a complete portrayal of India, Indians or Hinduism is, in point of fact, an idiot. Spielberg has no obligation to cater his films to idiots.

There's nothing wrong with liking Temple of Doom. There's nothing racist about liking Temple of Doom. And there's nothing "racist" about Temple of Doom. It's all pearl-clutching from people looking to be offended. Get over it. If you (and that's a rhetorical 'you') have a problem with the film, don't watch it.

    Thanks for the comments, Gurkensalat!

I've wanted to offer the podcast on more traditional platforms (like Apple or Spotify) since the beginning in 2013, but unfortunately, there are rights issues involved, especially when I use full musical clips from soundtrack recordings rather than brief, 30-second snippets that would pass as free 'quotes'. So although I sometimes label it a podcast, it is technically a webcast that is only available as streaming, not as downloadable content. Since I don't have the money to pay for rights, and since I want to play full clips, that's how it turned out. Maybe some day, I'll make revised editions where I cut down all the clips to quote size, hence making them eligible for traditional podcast platforms. We'll see!

Thanks a lot for this podcasts which are very interesting. The first episode even motivated me to buy Jumping Jack Rabbits from Wagon Train on iTunes!
It would be nice, though, to be able to listen to the podcast on Apple podcasts since I mostly do it during biking using my Apple Watch. This embedded thing does not work there and is in general less user-friendly. Others may appreciate it if it would be available on a few of the other main podcast services out there, too.

Meanwhile I have ordered this album and listened to it. So, I can answer my own question: The MC mix is quite immersive, with the whole orchestra wrapped around the listener in a circle. The strings are in front, the French horns in the left surround, the trumpets in the right surround, for example. I like it very much, since it is very involving and allows more details of the dense orchestration to come through. But I know that it is not everybody's cup of tea, which may be the reason that Neil does not recommend it. In general sound quality is very good for such an old recording, clean and clear with almost no hiss or distortion. Dynamics could be more, but is adaequate. On the whole very recommended, especially for MC fans.  In contrast e.g. to the overpriced Matrix SACD which just adds ambiance in the surrounds and does not offer much advantage to the CD tracks.
