fenrik reacted to Jay in The Chronological Film Score Thread
"Farewell to Lorien" is comprised of cues recorded for the Extended Edition of the first film. These recordings did not exist when the theatrical version of Fellowship was made. One of the cues is for a new scene that wasn't in the theatrical cut at all, while the other replaces a theatrical version of a cue for a longer cut of a scene.
The track goes like this:
0:00-3:07 = this is some of the music for the fellowship departing from Lothlorien in the Extended Edition, which completely replaces the theatrical version of this music (heard from 0:00-0:50 in "The Great River" OST track) in the Extended Edition 3:07-3:26 = this is just a portion of the previous bit repeated 3:26-4:36 = this is the cue "Gilraen's Memorial", which is for the scene where Aragorn visits his mother's memorial statue in Rivendell in the Extended Edition. This occurs just before the FOTR OST track "The Ring Goes South"
Note that the FOTR OST album itself already isn't fully chronological. The opening of "The Prophecy" is actually a bit from halfway through the cue, and in "Amon Hen", the bit from 0:00-0:31 goes AFTER the bit from 0:31-0:43.

It's very good, but requires some whittling. A brief comment here.
Indeed. THE CREATOR, which he did mostly solo (some cues with Mazzaro), was amazing. I dream of something similar.

fenrik reacted to Arpy in Ramin Djawadi: House Of The Dragon (2022)
Just chiming in here after not being on the forums for what feels like a year or two. Just finished season 2 and what a dire score. Djawadi seems to excel in his use of texture and rhythm, but when meaty underscore is required we get some really simplistic drumming and some stuff that doesn't take off and soar as high as the series' Dragons require. I was thinking whilst watching the show that where the visuals are crying out to be heralded by some nice scoring, the action set pieces are so understated with nothing to carry them the way other fantasy films and shows have.
The finale ended with a piece I'm assuming was meant to be a really emotional set piece, building to something akin to what you might hear in the later seasons of GoT, but what I'm hearing sounds like a midi mock-up using the best synthetic orchestral sounds. I just can't fathom how useless the music in this series has been. It doesn't underscore anything, it doesn't lift any scene.
It's disappointing. Maybe that's not Djawadi's fault, maybe that's the producers diling back the music...

Just listened to the album. Been so excited as I really loved the season 1 score!
And WOW! This was so....BORING!
I've never been this bored while listening to a Ramin/GoT score before! I usually add to playlist the tracks I enjoy and want to keep on my phone. For this 1h 26 min release I only kept 44 minutes of it. And those 44 minutes was not even close to make me feel "wow, this is good!". But they felt ok and I might want to revisit them again.
Only ONE simple track stood out to me as amazing and "up there" with the season 1 stuff ("Bear The Burden Alone").
I really hope Ramin is just having a bad season and havent lost his magic! Cant believe I waited two long years for this!
Btw, the second season (as a show) was also extremly boring to me. In the end I only watched it to listen to the score, lol!

fenrik reacted to MaxMovieMan in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
To carry on @WampaRat’s thematic glossary I put together a thematic breakdown of the score as well as the chronological order. I’ve seen the film three times now and honestly it’s one of the best things I’ve watched in a long time. In combination with Part One I’d say this is a 10/10 movie.
RETURNING THEMES/MOTIFS
Dune Main Theme -
I’ll be classifying the four-note theme as the “A” theme and the eight-note theme as the “B” theme to stay consistent. When both play at once I’ll refer to it as the main theme.
Fate/“The One” Theme -
This theme is extremely underplayed on album. The theme in this film basically becomes Jessica’s after she… changes. It’s played on woodwinds quite a lot as she enacts her plans. There is a major missing variation of this theme that plays towards the end of the film. It has the Kwisatz Haderach motif as a counterpoint. I’m sure this will be on the FYC album.
Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords -
Sadly this motif takes a backseat in this score. It plays a select couple times but doesn’t nearly have the presence it did in the first film.
Tragic Noble Theme -
Another theme that is diluted this time around. It has a great appearance at the end of “Only I Will Remain” but that track doesn’t actually play during the film only the credits.
Impending Doom Motif -
Although not actually appearing as much as it did in the first film, this motif makes a major impact on the film by playing in select important scenes relating to Paul’s dark future or even the darker actions he takes here.
Sorrow/Loss Motif -
Sadly not featured on the album but there is a track in the film that features this motif. It plays twice and both times relates to how the Bene Gesserit prophecy is taking over the Fremen and leading them to war. Hopefully this track will be on FYC album.
House Atreides/Paul and Chani’s Love Theme -
This theme goes from barely being featured in the first film to becoming the main theme of the second. It evolves from the bagpipe power anthem for House Atreides to a beautiful woodwind/Blade Runner-esque love theme for Paul and Chani.
Bene Gesserit Seduction Motif/Feyd Rautha Motif -
This motif was originally featured on the second half of the track, “Song of the Sisters” from the sketchbook album. It was then developed menacingly into the six-note Feyd Rautha Motif now heard in this film.
Bene Gesserit Whispers/Chant
Arrakis Drum Motif
Harkonnen Screech
Harkonnen Clang
Fremen Chimes -
This is a new motif that I noticed upon rewatching both films. It’s like a small little chime march that appears when characters are walking through the rocky terrain of the Sietches. It has a big appearance that’s not on the new album but it’s when…
(Sandwalk Video (FYC) - 0:22)
(Stillsuits - 1:55)
NEW THEMES/MOTIFS
Kwisatz Haderach Motif -
New dark three-note cello motif for the culmination of the Bene Gesserit breeding process; the Kwisatz Haderach. Also has a drum rhythm behind it. Blares loud in theaters and often acts as a counterpoint to other main themes. It represents both Paul and Feyd as they’re both prospects for the Kwisatz Haderach.
(Harkonnen Arena - 4:48)
(Travel South - 0:06)
(Arrival - 0:00)
(You Fought Well - 0:12)
The Emperor’s Motif -
Loud and grand motif that represents the emperor of the known universe. Features choir and some brass which most of Dune doesn’t have.
(The Emperor - 0:39)
