Another reason I can't wait for this is Michael Seal (Conductor) actually rehearses all the music with the orchestra, you can tell when its being performed in the concert. He's brilliant, as are the CBSO. I've seen some orchestra's play Star Wars music and it sounds like its a first reading of the piece.

Yeah, I had a chance if hearing them play Williams on two occasions before. And performances were spot on.

Thank you! I think it took about two weeks with 3 hours work a day, and the voicings filled my entire evening yesterday, so enough to keep me busy!

We just had a very similar SW concert in Milano last week and it was absolutely phenomenal! The thing most people don't realize is that hearing Williams' music live is something huge. His music really takes a whole different level and magnitude that no recording will ever give you.
So, best of luck for these concerts! I'm sure they'll be bloody brilliant.

Perhaps somebody here should write up a guide to the customs and personalities of JWFan for new members.

I think that for a lot of new vinyl enthusiasts it could be a case of self-delusion. Are they all audiophiles that can hear the difference and do they all have the right equipment to hear that difference? Or they are more in love with the rebel charm, the retro look and feel of vinyl and turntables?

aj_vader got a reaction from Muad'Dib in London or Los Angeles for Star Wars VII score? [UPDATE: It's Los Angeles]
I was at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Friday night watching the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra do a film music program (Some Williams).
Just after Battle of the Heroes was performed the presenter, Tommy Pearson (think he works at Classic FM) said "John Williams will be returning to London to record the new Star Wars score this summer".
What does he know that we don't?

Does anyone know if this Palantir Scene will be in Battle of the Five Armies? maybe as some sort of flash back?
The Sauron Theme at the end of 'Thrain' nearly knocked me of my seat! Love that Mordor Minor 3rd descending motif followed by Evil of the Ring/Sauron.

It's also confirmed on the Classic FM website. "It's the start of a brand new week and John has an exclusive first play of Howard Shore's new Hobbit Soundtrack."

Must be playing in the next 45 minutes as the show ends then.

I went in and started comparing the UE and OST again, since I seemed to recall finding that they really weren't very different at all. If that's what I found last time, I was rather wrong. The most noticeable difference right off the bat is of course that the UE is louder, which means it does indeed have more dynamic range compression to avoid hard clipping in the louder passages. The reverb is also different between releases - a little more muddy, somber, and wet for the OST. And the UE is brighter and punchier as well, possibly as a result of being drier or maybe it was just EQ'd differently.

At 1.17 the theme is played on Horns in A-Minor then at 1.33 it moves up a semitone to Bb-Minor, it has a great impact when it happens.
Then at 1.49 we return to the march ostinato in B-Minor (up a semitone again), then 2 bars later (1.54) we move up another semitone to C Minor, then ultimate chord resolve back to G-Minor (1.59). Gets me every time
