This appeared in my Facebook feed… posted by composer/orchestrator/arranger Nikiforos Chrysoloras (who I have to admit I’ve never heard of) but could be amazing!

For the past few months, I've been closely collaborating with the extraordinary Don Davis - composer of the Matrix films, and Jurassic Park 3, among others - on his new score, commissioned by EUROPÄISCHE FILMPHILHARMONIE, for the highly anticipated 100th anniversary of Fritz Lang’s futuristic masterpiece METROPOLIS, to be premiered in 2027.
Needless to say, you're in for a treat!

    Stay tuned for updates.

Shout out to Alexander Duca De Tey for bringing me on board.

Anyone else believes this is one of the best sequence of three tracks in a John Williams score?

I love the theme in Death of Jonathan and Leaving Home, then The Fortress of Solitude ireminds me of John Williams' Harry Potter (and not just because the Kryptonite theme is the parent of the Chamber of Secrets theme).

March of the Villiains is a perfectly fun Prokofiev pastiche piece on its own, but it's not what I wanted in a Superman score to be honest. It's um... the opposite of menacing. It's more related to Williams's music for Ewoks (or even Jawas) in the Star Wars universe. It's part of why the second half tends to leave me cold. Give me Williams's Nuclear Man theme over it, any day.

I think there'll be a few beautiful moments where we can listen to Prisoner of Azkaban alternates, right before the machines show up to terminate us.

I must confess, I never listened to the recreated OST mix. For a compact summary of the score it's too long. And if I decide to listen to the long score, I chose the complete one.

Trope got a reaction from bruce marshall in John Barry - MOONRAKER - New Expanded and Remastered 2-CD from La-La Land Records
Vocals on this release aren't nearly as compressed as on earlier versions, hence Shirley's dynamic range is MASSIVE in the title song. Every time I think the song sounds quiet at the beginning, I regret turning it up by the time she gets to "always SEEEEEEEEEMS you LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE me" in the first chorus and nearly wrecks my hearing.

Anyone else reckon the title song is mixed weirdly in this release? It's like they amped up Bassey's vocals and made the instrumental backing as quiet as they could get away with. I'm sure my old 2003 EMI wasn't like this.

Yeah I mean I have no problem discussing albums once they come out, but for sure I won't jinx whatever I'm doing at the moment !

All I can tell you is that I'm extremely busy ! The year is far from over !

The expanded scores of the 9 Star Wars movies, presented as WE want them, don't need to be sold exclusively in one big box set. And here, I don't even want to consider an even bigger box set that includes scores not composed by Williams... let's be serious.

Please consider that these scores were composed over a span of, what… 42 years? Three trilogies, each representing a distinct era... Perhaps it would make sense to release three separate box sets... or, just one expanded edition per movie. By releasing them individually, people could choose which expansions interest them. Over 42 years, there are now several types of Star Wars fans... We have to respect that.

A single massive box set, like the Superman one from a few years ago, probably encouraged piracy more than anything else (and it was just 8 CDs!). I doubt it sold very well… just my thoughts...

Crossfadings indeed, for several reasons, but the score works that way.

About the suites, no. I mean, he can come up with improv ideas. But first of all Hans focuses on the sound, as much as the themes. Define the palette of what the score will sound like. What samples, what synths, what kind of orchestral writing etc. Sometimes he'll spend weeks or even months on those suites. The funny thing on Sherlock Holmes 2 he spent so much time on his "Moriarty" suite that people around him went like "err... there's a score to write, now it might be time to actually start to picture ?"

The final Man Of Steel Sketchbook is actually version 57 of that track !

I'm very hopeful we've finally reached the moment where we'll start getting as many Zimmer expansions as Williams ones. And it's about time. And it's great that someone who knows what they're doing is in charge.

Thank you to La-La Land Records for making this release happen! I hope everyone enjoys the gorgeous presentation that Stéphane put together, and the beautiful mastering from Maxime that preserves the original intent of the score and gives it new life.

I had such an amazing time talking with both Hans and Lisa for the liner notes. They shine some amazing insight into how this iconic score came together, and

I just wanted their voices to shine through as they reflect back 25-years to how their score came together.

I hope everyone enjoys the notes, they are beefy, but I think the story of how Gladiator came to be needed to be covered in as much detail as possible, and I wanted to make sure both Hans and Lisa had the space to speak about their work.

This film came out when I was 13. Just 4 years prior I was a 9-year old discovering some cassette of the score to The Rock. By this age I was looking for that "Zimmer" name on CD covers specifically. This score only furthered my obsession of how music and imagery work together to tell a story. So, it was truly an honor to get to preserve the behind the scenes stories with this album.

Thank you Michael and Matt for shepherding this release. Thank you to Dan for the gorgeous art direction.

But thank you to Hans and Lisa, and everyone else who touched the score to help bring Maximus home in a score that is equal parts brutal, heroic, heartbreaking, elegant, gorgeous, and deeply moving.

I hope everyone enjoys the release and enjoys the exclusive liners whether you're revisiting or discovering for the first time. This is a limited edition of only 3500 copies, so don't sit on grabbing yours!
