Trope reacted to Bespin in I just tracked down a decent looking copy of the 1993 Anthology editions of Star Wars
Mais... I would like to point out that no current version of the Star Wars soundtracks is PERFECT... The 1993 Anthology box set is essential, but it has its small peculiarities... some alternate takes selected by error (nothing serious), the omission of the cue 'Mynock's cave' in The Empire Strikes Back and a stereo issue in one of the thematic tracks with Yoda (I always forget which one).

Well I'd start with the heads of Disney. After that we'll see what comes!

God, I'd kill for a Revenge of the Sith complete/deluxe release.

Trope reacted to Luke Skywalker in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Isolated Score Track
I really hate this modern way of film-spotting. The sequels and this film are a complete mess to sort out

Trope reacted to LSH in What is the Last Cue You Listened To?
Quite possibly my favourite cue from the past 10 years.
Powell is a bone fide genius. This is genuinely delicious stuff.

The 2016 releases were the original OST albums. They were new transfers of the original OST masters, and many people say they're the best sounding releases of those OSTs.
The 2018 releases are ground up rebuilds of the OSTs made using the session masters, those are the sets people have a lot of problems with, and are the ones currently on streaming services.

Trope reacted to Chewy in James Horner's WINDTALKERS (2002) - NEW! 2023 3-CD Intrada Records
I agree that this issue is definitely not major, but I think it's necessary to tell Intrada that something is wrong in their process so that their future releases won't have the same issue.
They, at least, need to learn from their mistakes, that's the bare minimum for those kind of pricey specialty releases...

Trope got a reaction from enderdrag64 in What Makes Return of the Jedi sound the way that it does?
Here's a comparison of an excerpt from a ROTJ cue. It's titled "Through the Flames" on the Anthology, and "The Main Reactor" on the SE. IMO the Anthology sounds much clearer. I'm so glad I purchased it a few years ago.

Trope reacted to igger6 in Sony dedicates its music building to John Williams
Spielberg never runs out of brilliant bon mots about JW's film scoring!
Also, with J.J.'s presence here, can we finally put to rest the notion that Williams has some sort of lingering distaste toward him?
Also also, your move, Juilliard! Do they have yet to name anything after him?

I also think the LSO outclasses the LA group. The LSO brass is still outstanding, but it was a murderer's row of world class talent in the early 2000s. The strings were also much better. I would have loved it if the ST scores had gotten recorded with them.

Gordy Haab is a bit of an uninspired choice. It'll sound like Williams but won't really be elevated beyond pastiche at least based on his past solo work.

Trope got a reaction from Tydirium in Nicholas Hooper’s Harry Potter Scores Are Extremely Underrated. What Happened to Him?
I personally have a soft spot for the Hooper scores (equal with Doyle, just below Desplat). I have made a summary list of themes/motifs/ideas I have been able to identity from the OSTs of ORDER OF THE PHOENIX and HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, and feel a complete expansion of both would reveal even more motific ideas and connections. I hope this list might prove helpful to anyone who wants to do a deeper dive into Hooper's music. Anything with question marks (???) next to it indicates I'm not 100% confident in my observation.
