CatastrophicJones reacted to Jay in James Newton Howard - REMAIN (2027)
The ninth M Night Shyamalan film scored by James Newton Howard, and their first collaboration after a 14 year / 6 film separation.
JNH announced the news himself at the 19th Krakow Film Music Festival yesterday. Was surprised to come here and see that no one had reported it yet. Even filmmusicreporter doesn't have this scoop!

Ideally they'd have a model whereby those who merely stumble across an article, or happen to have a specialist interest in a particular one, can read it somehow. Big difference from someone deciding that a newspaper/site is a preferred source of news and OPs, and willing to pay for it.
I mean, remove obtuseness - no one sensible is going to take out a subscription to read one page. Hence why (on a separate note) I don't think making that magical bypass link thingy does any damage - those who used it it were never going to subscribe, and if you have a subscription anyway, then there's no issue.

CatastrophicJones reacted to Edmilson in So WB is rebooting Westworld again with David Koepp writing the script
Oh, nice, a new interpretation of the ahead-of-its-time cautionary tale from the mind of visionary Michael Crichton, re-imagined for modern times by the critically acclaimed screenwriter of Jurassic Park, I can't wait...
Meanwhile, we'll never EVER get an ending to the HBO show. You may not even be allowed to watch it, since it's not streaming on HBO Max.
Fuck Warner Brothers. Disgraceful, disgusting jerks.

I understand the need for paywalls, blablabla, you can't make quality journalism* for free, there's no free lunch, they need to pay their journalists, etc etc...
But I've developed such a massive dislike for paywalls, they annoy me on such a profound level that even if I had Elon Musk-level money, I'd still NOT pay for them and instead would use alternative means to circumvent the paywall and read the article for free, just out of spite. If they reinforce their security against piracy or something similar, then I will simply not read it. But my money they won't get. It's not like what they're putting so much effort into protecting is the cure of cancer or tomorrow's lottery numbers.
*Most of them don't even make regular journalism, let alone quality journalism.

The article mentions that Mattessino is 61 years old.
Does he intend to keep working until he's 97? That's the only way he'll get to work on the complete John Williams Star Wars and Indiana Jones collections

For all the misinformation out there, it would behoove these media companies to avoid using pay walls so the public has easy access to import information and keep us all on the same page. Thank you for this, I hope this provides even more exposure they definitely deserve.

Here's for everyone who wants to read it for free, without creating accounts or suffering through insufferable paywalls:

Good to know ! lol
But I can only confirm how frustrating this is. There's a wonderful Hans title we thought we could have released by now but approvals will most likely take as long as the Bad Boys ones so we'll probably be lucky if that happens before the end of 2026......

While I can understand why they don't do this, I absolutely love this idea and completely agree. I'd be nice if there was a way they could add this feature.

I wish La-La Land had an option to continue to add to your order during the sale duration rather than start new separate orders. There are boutique home video labels that allow you to do that, and then your order ships when the sale ends. It benefits the customer because you can have it all ship together (often for a flat rate), and it benefits the retailer label because people will buy some and then a few days later add more if they have FOMO when titles get low in stock like this.

I'd rather not see AI being used to remaster music, and it introduces unnatural artifacts that weren't originally there.

This is different than anything else. It uses art and elements already existing and derives content from that. It has no soul. People claiming they’re "writers" or "composers" by using it, no, you typed in a couple words and an algorithm spit out text, a picture or song. That would be like ordering food from a restaurant and claiming you're the chef and "cooked" it because you made the order and initiated everything. It's exactly the same logic.
Not to mention it undermines us actual artists. Gives corporations an excuse to attempt to do away with people and just rely more on machine. And yes I very much do not trust AI especially if it becomes self aware. I use movies like The Terminator as a warning. I've uninstalled any AI based programs on my computer given they've been sneaking those in during updates. Wish I had caught it sooner.
I'm unsure how I feel about this one. I have looked into it and I guess the difference was that being a program trained to seperate elements rather than auto generating content into it. That technology by Jackson's team is a little different than the more current AI generating ones, but I'm still iffy on it all regardless. Need more data. But all this other AI slop stuff? Nah, pass. Plus it's also hurting the environment.

Since were on the subject it's worth mentioning that Chris Malone talked of the matter in episode "The Other" of the Goldsmith podcast from 1:41:12 to 1:53:25.

While he has used it here and there like separating vocals to a score, it's currently not night and day like a few say and is limited. It can be used as a tool to help these projects but it's best utilized with experts instead of letting it go on it's own

If we could just remove the echoes of these human voices from the music on these DVD tracks. Then it realizes, without human voices, there would never be echoes, or sound FX.

I'm sure Adobe Audition: AI Edition will be plotting everyone's murder after it's forced to clean up the muddy audio on The Mummy Returns for the 23rd time.

That’s how it all starts. Using A.I. to clean up muddy LA recordings of The Mummy Returns climactic tracks and rear channel rips of the Star Wars prequels. Then later there’s running and then screaming…

People here seem fine with using A.I. Artificial Intelligence to digitally alter this stuff, because that’s what it is. It’s a perversion. You can tell. I’m not Jacked In so I think this is all insane Skynet shit. You know. “Tin Foil Hat”, right?

I don't know which is more disappointing, when it's literally just another perfect performance with no real noticeable differences, or when the difference is that 2 seconds or some cool instrument line are missing.
-
CatastrophicJones reacted to Richard P in Alan Silvestri THE MUMMY RETURNS Intrada 2CD set!
I find it's usually a bit disappointing to get alternates that are essentially just performance variations on the same material. I generally need a prominent reason to deliberately listen to an alternate, and the odd timing or orchestration thing struggles to justify that for me unless I know the track really well.
If there's space on disc and they're available, I have no issue at all with their inclusion, but that 'first pass' on a new expansion can be a lot of ups and downs of discovery. I didn't keep anything from the bonus sections of either score.
