TolkienSS got a reaction from Nick1Ø66 in What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)
I was surprised rewatching them how late in the franchise they actually found the tone we all think of when we think about M:I.
The first two are really not at all in the same category of 4-7.
M:I 3 is a really really strange film. It's like an M:I soap opera interjected with a heist movie. Not only do we never know or understand what the motivations, let alone goals, of the villain are, we aren't even told what the Rabbit's Foot is, what it's for - and the film sets up a whole scheme to retrieve it, and doesn't show any of it. Instead, we hear the story of a cat.

MI 3-6 is a legendary franchise run

Since the original Mission Impossible film was 30 years ago I may as well post it here.
What a genuinely fun movie. I went on a M:I watching spree the other day and watched 1, 2, 3 and Rogue Nation.
Overall, I found Rogue Nation the best of them actually. It's overstaying its welcome a bit in the last 40 minutes but fantastic film.
2 is so cringe. Zimmer's score isn't the worst but it's so distracting how compared to 1 it's suddenly the big Tom Cruise show.
But man, that original film is so on point. Not a wasted moment. I nearly flipped out when that MI theme kicked in during the heli sequence. Must be 15 years since I last watched it. It's technological aspects are dated af but that's fine.

I think he could use farts produced after eating gyros and be praised and maybe even win an oscar

I can't wait to see this movie suck huge, bulging cock.

Same. I love Bear's work, but I won't wade through the garbage of the actual show to get to it.

I would raise my eyebrow, but if the miniseries was somehow great, I would put my eyebrow back down.

The fact that there are not many "alumni" from the previous films is actually a good thing. It actually makes it look less like a cash grab.
I rewatched a few Bond films the past week, and it's ridiculous how MI6 is reduced to a little cozy family.
Middle Earth is vast, introduce new people.

I know this is tradition, but I wish they'd show Ben-Hur. It's actually about Jesus, about as long, and way, way better.

TolkienSS reacted to Quintus in Disclosure Day - Steven Spielberg will be making a UFO movie based on an original idea with a David Koepp script
Trailer is making the usual mistake of showing too much but it just looks like sci-fi Munich anyway. Visually, I don't recognise any of this as Spielberg, which is a bit disconcerting and I switched off the video before it finished.

Trailer still isn’t really doing anything for me

I expected this movie to be bad, but not hilariously bad. Shit, I may have to see it.

Melodramatic romance storylines are one thing.
The heroine wanting to put an end of the antagonist's shenanigans but also having the hots for him is a new level of hoary.
It's also the main storyline whereas stuff like the Tauriel stuff or even the Arwen scenes are decidedly NOT.

Romantasy 😬
That subgenre is how you end up with shows where Galadriel is “frenemies” with Sauron….

TolkienSS reacted to Xander Harris in So Warner Brothers is making a fifth Matrix movie written and directed by Drew Goddard
It’s what every sane person should feel about all this stuff. These are soulless cash grabs for starters. Second, these franchises already fizzled out at some point and the fanbases became understandably disillusioned. They became fanbases full of burnt out drunks. Indy, SW and the Matrix are cinematic atrocities in their sequels.
Even Buffy had an officially sanctioned comic book continuation that is highly reviled as it went on, for good reason. For all its faults in the later seasons, Buffy went out with a bang and so did Angel in the final season. Just let it rest in peace, let it get some sleep. It died, so many years ago.

WHAT. ROLE. ON. EARTH. TAKES. FIVE. MONTHS!?
Even Gilraen - which was everyone's best bet - doesn't sound like it can take that long to have in the can.
EDIT: Well, this just keeps getting weirder:
If this is true, there's a chance Taylor-Joy is also playing a Stoor.

I am sick of shoehorned female leads.
If anything, Gilraen should be the "female lead", and if only through flashback storytelling.

The film is the best of the Connery era.

Not only is that entirely true, but, in my experience, the better the musicians the lower the humour. Some of the jokes I’ve heard from professional musicians would be unacceptable even on a platform as liberal as JWFan.

Certainly none of the casting picks were so above their movies that their name got in the way of portraying first and foremost their book character.
