Didn't ET & Elliot stalk Williams on his favored golf course, which ended in a lengthy auto chase around LA?

EDIT: Who made my post its own thread?  Not complaining, we just have so many TFA threads already.  Okay then. haha

This isn't Williams, but this is the kind of thing we're looking for ;):

That cue is currently the front runner. I'm happy to go with it if I can't find a better alternative from Williams, who I'd ultimately prefer *if possible*.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, it's appreciated.

Sharky, those cues are pretty and I definitely think the Lalo one is suitable once the intro is out of the way. The Nixon one would have been fine actually, if only the trumpet was on a fiddle

GreyPilgrim, the AI one... stunning. Now I need to search YouTube for a version which jettisons the voice and replaces it with silky strings, because that melody... I'd forgotten how lush it is.

I didn't know the final shot was "wrong" or "distracting" until I read all the complaints on the interwebz.

These are great news. I'm really excited the score is being recorded, and with Williams at the podium. Each time we get a new score from him, especially these days, is a blessing, and I'm looking forward to enjoy it!

I don't read anything relevant in the Spielberg quote. Of course they will try to go on with their collaboration.

Watching the Maestro at work on a sound stage is a nice treat, and provides wonderful access to the process.  How any fan of film scores or orchestral performance could be indifferent toward something like this is mind-boggling, especially given the composer.

I liked the moment when JW said that while scoring the action sequences, he often asks himself if he's overwriting.  That might account for his slightly more streamlined approach to TFA.   Referring to the 3 hours of score, he said that they're limited to the amount of music they can put on one CD, but that they just might have to release some more

For me, it’s already one of the best Star Wars themes and I immediately loved it, there were no growing time needed for me, so I guess I was lucky
I hope it gets great treatment in the next two movies, I think it’s meant to be. Everything just clicked for me with the whole character. Daisy’s youthful enthusiasm with her athleticism, the banter with Finn, the music, it was an overall great experience for me.
I think this is the kind of theme this movie needed, not an overly epic Duel of the Fates type music, so I’m perfectly happy with it.

TFA's transition was jarring when I first saw it (the film's bizarre final shot didn't help!) but I've gotten used to it after listening to the track 200-odd times.

It's interesting to find influences in Williams' scores (that's why I like to linger around the "Williams's Most Plagiaristic Cues" thread), but to automatically say that that is a negative thing, or that Williams "stole" that fragment, is silly and premature. It's obvious that in the 200+ hours of film/TV music that Williams has written there will be some melodic fragments which sound similar to other fragments. I even saw someone on another forum go as far as call Williams a "fraud". Lol.

What it comes down to is the "too good to be true" phenomenon, where people see that Williams consistently writes good, popular soundtracks, and feel like there is some underlying trick. But there is no trick - Williams is just a talented composer with a lot of experience under his belt (he composes every day!) and a vast knowledge of different types of musical repetoire. Sometimes some other melody might seep into his work...but this is nothing compared to Williams' (and any other good composer's) ability to weave musical material, develop it, contrast it, orchestrate it and sculpt it into an interesting piece of music.

(Of course there is also the element of "patting one self on the back", where people like to point out similarities just because they feel good about the fact that they have a knowledge of classical repetoire that extends beyond Ride of the Valkyries and Turkish March. )
