The first half of this is an arrangement and second half is his theme.

I always liked his arrangement of “Teach Me Tonight” from Jaws 2, sadly not on the expansion.

Her answer about that makes no sense, though. She acts like these themes are in their "genesis" in between ROTS and ANH, but how? The themes were already present and developed by ROTS. By the time you get to this show chronologically, you've already heard Qui-Gon's theme in TPM; the Force theme in TPM, AOTC, ROTS; Leia's theme in ROTS; the Imperial March in AOTC, ROTS (with hints in Anakin's theme in TPM); the Mustafar theme in ROTS; the Order 66 music in ROTS. The Imperial March is even heard in both anthology films, Rogue One and Solo, and they both take place before ANH. Also, she talks about leading things to ANH, but the Imperial March isn't even in that movie...

The point is, these themes don't need to be "seeded"; they already exist in the universe. Many of them are even referenced in the animated shows that chronologically take place before this show (TCW, Bad Batch). Why do they need to be treated in this show as though they've never existed before?

I'd also like to point out that she remembered the name of ANH, but drew a blank when it came to ROTS. Between her, and the writer Joby Harold also seemingly not having watched ROTS before writing the show based on recent remarks of his, it is no wonder that there are so many problems. This show is arguably more of a follow-up to ROTS, than it is a prequel to ANH. Even the marketing clearly reflects this.

    There's no excuse for this.

I don't care what she's saying (and I'm not a conspiracy theorist), there is definitely more to this story, as others have posited. The involvement of Ross is a flag immediately.

I do feel sorry for her though. Imagine boasting that ET was your motivation to enter the film music industry... then getting a job on a Williams legacy project... and then having to pump out the most generic, bland, soul-less wallpaper paste ever.

All of these score releases are something I never thought I’d see due to all the red-tape and prep involved. Kudos to Omni and the others who keep making it happen!

MikeH reacted to Goldfinger in Jurassic World: Dominion (Colin Trevorrow 2022)
The movie is terribly bland and has almost no tension at all.  The end sequence where more than 7 people are all clumsily hiding behind a jeep from a dino just shows what was wrong with the movie.  There were no stakes, the main characters never truly felt like they were in danger, and the two different storylines that came together felt incredibly forced.

If they had just picked the ecology story and went with it I would have enjoyed the movie much, much more.  The stuff with Pratt and Howard felt out of a Bond or Marvel movie, not a Jurassic movie.  During Top Gun, I never looked at my watch once as I was completely enthralled and on the edge of my seat.  During this movie, I looked at my watch less than a half hour in, and continued to do so throughout the movie.

Very disappointing, and if that means I'm just looking for something to hate so be it.

It goes to show just how special, and brilliant, the original is.

MikeH reacted to crumbs in Natalie Holt's OBI-WAN KENOBI (2022)
I was able to get relatively clean versions of these two Ross cues from episode 4.

Lots of nice little Star Wars-ian flourishes throughout; he really nails the classic Williams orchestration.

SPOILERY if you haven't seen episode 4, obviously.

Note at 1:49 in the first clip, the same motif from the new Lucasfilm/Star Wars logo. 2:17 is reminiscent of the unused Rey Runs cue from The Last Jedi (deleted scene).

I suspect the first ~50 seconds of the second clip is actually Holt material; there's an awkward crossfade at 0:50.

Overall his writing seems like a natural continuation of the sequel trilogy, which makes sense (given he worked on all 3).

I can ask around since I know people who work at LFL if you'd like.. we can find out what actually happened .

As for the vader music at the end, I actually really enjoyed it! A few hints of the imperial march would've been nice of course, however it made me get goosebumps.. although that entire scene did.

It's like a whole new composer was in charge of the score this episode! What a huge improvement that was... it finally felt and sounded like Star Wars!

Lots of fun variations of the Obi theme throughout, in fresh and interesting guises, so I assume 85% of the score in this episode was actually Bill Ross? Holt's thoroughly uninteresting, synth-sounding underscore stood out like a sore thumb after the thrilling escape cue in the hanger bay. What a thrill to hear the Obi theme in action/tension mode.

It's increasingly clear to me that JW (and Ross) were brought in to fix a score that wasn't working. This wasn't a Solo situation.

Hearing the Fallen Kingdom theme a couple times brought a smile. Earlier ribbing aside, FK’s still a fun listen. Giacchino’s action writing is really corny in a way I find endearing in a monster movie context.
My main gripe is that, compared to, say, Powell, he doesn’t intertwine his themes within the score nearly enough. Powell sees action sequences as just as much of a chance to express character or story themes as any other kind of scene, whereas Giacchino just sledgehammers away and has nothing to say.

The scores for Scream 2 and Scream 3 are so fun and over the top and operatic that it’s a bit of a letdown that 4 and 5 didn’t have the big music budgets and had to rely more on orchestral samples instead.

The orchestrations and performances by the musicians on the original trilogy are just superb, especially for 2 and 3 where Beltrami got a much bigger budget and was able to use the full Hollywood Studio Symphony.  3 in particular has some really cool synths and electronic effects in addition to a lot of fun avant-garde orchestral writing.

I love Star Wars.  Full on adoration.   I love Rise of Skywalker.  I love Episode I.

Sometimes I can’t help myself but dabble in some discussion.  But when I find myself having to defend, I get exhausted and withdraw.  I just have grown so tired of getting nowhere with some of that kind of thing.

Definitely! I hear some echoes of ‘The Adventures of Han’. There’s what sounds like a jazzier version of its rapid-fire trumpet passage, and the ending timpani solo is also quite similar.
