  1. This seems like a really nifty little gadget so I guess I'll be adding it to my next Amazon order! This is the same thing, right?
  2. Until Monday, Black Ops costs 20 EUR instead of 50 EUR at the local computer stores chain. I think I'll be buying it; together with World at War, it's the only CoD game I don't yet have, plus Trent is speaking very highly of it.
  3. My thoughts exactly. I got it on Saturday and spent most of the weekend listening to parts I and VI, great sound quality and great music. I even fooled around for a bit at my piano with intervals and chords Manfredini describes in the booklet. I'm very happy I managed to catch this box before it sold out. I've wanted these scores for years so for me, this is another big gap filled in my collection.
  4. Oh man, this complicates things. Now I want to go to both London concerts but I can only make it to (and afford) one. So which one to choose?
  5. Does anybody know/have this CD? Is it any good? How are the performances?
  6. Friday the 13th. Classic horror score further enhanced by LLL's great treatment and presentation.
  7. True! If I remember correctly, IMDb for some time actually incorrectly listed Williams actually cameoing as a conductor in Carnegie Hall.
  8. My personal opinion would be that Williams hasn't really changed his basic approach insofar as he still approaches every film he writes music for with maximum devotion and willingness to provide the best possible score in that given moment and for that particular movie. However, speaking of nuances ... Well, let me just say that one can always come up with some "conspiracy theory" if one is really (desperately) looking for it. In connection to this I can also mention a review of War Horse written by one of most renowned Slovenian film critics I read recently who opined: "[...] We are well aware that the trenches of World War I were butchery, but this movie which is taking place on all fronts and in all trenches of WW I changes [this butchery] into poetry - into epic meditation, lyrical contemplative mosaic, into an already-heard musical by John Williams in which the blood only flows behind the curtain. [...]" I haven't yet seen War Horse or heard the score, but this seems a little far-fetched to me. At least for now.
  9. Salacius and Josh500, those are great anecdotes, if anybody has more let's hear it! One of my own greatest experiences was last year when I met Johan de Meij in New York and he told me he was also a huge fan of John Williams, but being a world-famous composer himself (and having arranged JW's music for concert band), he has already had the chance to meet Maestro privately. Lucky SOB!
  10. Um, what's that bold font thing? My post above wasn't in bold originally. What's all this?!
  11. Wow, Mikko, it's disturbing to see you lose your nerve like this! Don't worry, lads, Hook'll get released eventually and when it does, it'll be limited to 1000 copies which'll sell out in about 16 minutes, after whichever-label-puts-it-out's servers will have crashed about 10 times first! And now for something completely different: being a big fan of the series, I very much want a boxset (or three ) of music from as many MacGyver episodes as possible (kind of like LLL did for e.g. The X-Files). Do you think there's any possibility for that?
  12. Dear Alice, you must definitely try Lúnasa and The Bothy Band. Believe it or not, I actually play bodhrán and sing in an "Irish" band myself (none of us is Irish of course but we play Irish traditional music). We even have one CD out so far, and the second one is coming this year. Soon, we'll be performing at the St. Patrick's day reception of the ambassador of the Republic of Ireland like we do every year, and it's a great honour for us that we get invited to play at this event every year. You can check us out here, and I can also send you the CD if you like. Anyway, here is my favourite Lúnasa's set of reels (beginning with Ballivanich Reel) which we also play, so you can get an idea about how cool they are!
  13. FINALLY RECEIVED! Haven't had the time to listen to everything yet but parts I and VI (in which I was most interested and listened to the most so far) sound fantastic! Real happy to have another treasure in my collection. Ki-Ki-Ki Ma-Ma-Ma! Also received: - John Barry - King Kong - Craig Armstrong - World Trade Center
  14. I'll soon finish Decision Points by George W. Bush. Two chapters to go.
  15. Beautilful piano version of Donaggio's main theme from Carrie.
  16. Apart from my usual classical, jazz and film music favourites, I also very much like Randy Travis and Emmylou Harris, followed by a lot of 70s-80s pop and progessive metal music (Dream Theater and Symphony X being my favourites) and some Slovenian traditional music (which is - sadly - despised even by many (especially younger) Slovenians) - I'm sure even some of you have already heard one of the most famous polkas on the planet, by Avsenik Brothers Ensemble.
  17. Ad multos annos, Maestro! I only listened to JW's music for the whole day yesterday. ^_^
  18. So do Mars, Saturn and Uranus! Lots of timpani in a piece is always fun. For the Dies Irae sequence in his Grande Messe des Morts, Berlioz requests 8 pairs of timpani, 2 of which have two players (for double-stop rolls)!
  19. Anybody received this yet? Any first thoughts, opinions, impressions?
  20. +1! I would also very much like to have: Jerry Goldsmith - Executive Decision (complete) Fred Karlin - Survive the Savage Sea
  21. Richard Bellis - Stephen King's IT What a great score, and what an awesome edition! Thank you so much, Intrada! Another fantastic soundtrack and another gap in collection filled. ^_^
  22. Remembering good ole careless days ...
