Fragmented music from Hook musical in Jurassic Park and Harry Potter
indy4 replied to ckappes's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I could imagine "My Friend the Brachiosaurus" having lyrics. or even the main theme. but if that were the case they probably would have made it into the final Hook score, as instrumental -
Are you thinking of the national anthem of Israel- Hatikvah (The Hope)? Wow, I had no idea that was the Israeli national anthem! Always thought it was an original JW tune. I wonder if it bears any connection to the Mozart piece? Such an amazing forum, every once in a while you get a mindblowing post/link like this! How cool is that documentary, fantastic is an understatement. Thank you indy4!! No prob, SF1_freeze! You should check out Bernstein's other videos on YouTube, he did a ton of musical education stuff.

I will never understand the continuing backlash over a relatively small and easy-to-adapt-to change in the MB's format. i think its fine as it is -

The opening of JW's sinfonietta is also similar to the same part from Shostakovich's 5th. I'm not trying to attach any sort of judgement to these discoveries. it's just interesting to me to hear what pieces have influenced JW. it used to bother me but not anymore, now it's just fun to try and pick them out -

New Williams Harry Potter music at Universal Studios?
indy4 replied to Gruesome Son of a Bitch's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
So Williams did score it! -
One thing that bothers me is that, since its premiere at the baseball game, the tempo has been significantly reduced in every recording. Not sure why this is the case. Maybe Williams marked the tempo slower, but for whatever reason (time shortage, or just a mistake) he conducted at a much faster tempo at the game?

Great interview with JW on the trumpet concerto: http://www.trumpetguild.org/_72820_archive/1997journal/9705thor.pdf

I would avoid all the concerti and Heartwood. It sounds like you want something that is easily accessible, and while these are great, they all take some time to truly appreciate. His easiest to digest concert works are: - Liberty Fanfare - all his Olympic pieces (there are 4 of them) - Fanfare for Fenway - For the President's Own - Sound the Bells!

Conversations - New Chamber (piano solo) by John Williams
indy4 replied to pro-arte's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
official facebook page for the project: https://www.facebook.com/MontageFilmComposers Like it to get updates and to show support for these types of recordings (which we certainly need more of for JW's music!) -
Hi everyone! As many of you know, JW’s “Conversations” for solo piano is being released along with solo pieces written by Michael Giacchino, Alexandre Desplat, Randy Newman, Don Davis and Bruce Broughton. I recently became the manager of the facebook page for this album. If you want updates on the album, or if you want to show your support for quality recordings of JW concert works, please ‘like’ the facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/MontageFilmComposers Thanks!
