La-La Land Records' HOOK (2CD Expanded) Discussion thread

Why couldn't they get MM? -
I actively despise that theme. It's not really a theme, though, is it? It relates to one short slapstick sequence within a larger sequence. Mutt has another theme, derived from Raider's march. You can hear both father/son themes in the end credits coda. Karol "The Adventures of Mutt" is essentially a derivation of the Mutt's Theme that you're talking about. That's why I like it, JW develops it in some really cool ways. I don't really care how it functions in the film (although it worked well I thought)

Just from JW I'd say war horse bonding theme, deaths theme from book thief (if you can overlook the Mozart rip), mutts theme from kotcs.

I was always enthusiastic about this project just for the score. I didn't expect to get so excited about the film itself. It's gonna be so surreal to see the big 3 back on screen together, so many decades after RotJ. Cannot wait!

John Williams / Oregon Symphony Benefit Concert April 28, 2014
indy4 replied to Mari's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Thanks for the writeup, ConcertAttendee! Question: was the Book Thief concert arrangement anything new? I think this is the first time it's been played in concert (not counting that pre-Oscar thing). -
Back when FSM was putting out CDs, it was a similar situation. They would often print 10,000 copies of titles that clearly wouldn't sell that many. And I think it probably hurt their business.

LPs and man...two things separated by several decades of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?

BFg would be great for JW.

Quotes? Where we're going, we don't need quotes.

Conversations - New Chamber (piano solo) by John Williams
indy4 replied to pro-arte's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
KingPin, any report from the second day of sessions? I'm dying to hear about the piece, and the process -
In context, the passage is not as damning as it seems out of context. The author respects JW quite a bit, and even places him in league with GEorge Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein. He obviously could have spent more times discussing how JW is capable of contributing his own unique voice, IN ADDITION to his masterful abilitiy to tip his hat to the legends. But the piece was written to advertise a concert, that I'm guessing is just the popular movie music hits. The target audience are not the people that want to hear his Cello concerto, for instance
