  1. A non-fanfare piece would be a nice change, but I think JW's recent fanfares have been very diverse and original. Fenway, For the President's Own are both very interesting approaches IMO Whatever it is, I just hope it's longer than 5 minutes
  2. Why should music on a soundtrack album only function as slave to some movie (which in a lot of cases is best forgotten anyway)? That is exactly the kind of thinking that leads to whining fanboys because of a missing 30-second cues. Music released on a separate medium should stand on its own - and a lot of film score music doesn't (as a lot of very good composers have and will agree(d). I think Koray is using film as a representative of art in general, not saying that the music is only worthy in relation to te film. His statement could work for any form of art - for instance, would you only read one chapter of a book? That said, I am fine listening to both highlights and a work in its totality (I do both every week). I think that because music is more abstract than other art forms, it is more open to interpretation, and thus more susceptible to audiences' reimaginings than film or literature. For instance, I can listen to "the Searcj for the Blue Fairy" and have a completely satisfying listening experience, because I have considerable freedom in my interpretation of the cue. I can also listen to the entire AI OST (or score) and appreciate the work in its larger context. Both are perfectly valid forms of listening, IMO, although certainly some scores lend themselves more to one approach over the other.
  3. Wow, that is great! Please share any and all info you can about the Williams recording process, I am dying for more info. And I hope the other JWFan who attended will post something as well
  4. I try to use the iTunes rating system. If there's a track that's a lot better than the rest of the tracks, such that I fear I won't return to it, I'll give it 5 stars (even if it's not worth that).
  5. I'm not sure if I prefer the new first movement. It probably flows better in the beginning, but the developments of teh rhythmic motive that opens the original version loses some of its impact since it's introduced so much later in the movement.
  6. Has anybody read the Philip k dick short story? Is there anything in there to suggest such an interpretation?
  7. All three of these sound good for JW. Just pick one Steven!

    .

It gets a great variation on french horn in Burning Homestead, following an elegaic string variation of the Force Theme. Other than that (and the Binary sunset alt), I don't thik it's in the ANH. But it makes a lot of appearances in AotC and RotS.
  9. I think he's talking about the script in the variety one (can't watch the video right now).
  10. I'm guessing Detroit could really use the money right now. Go Johnny!
  11. It's definitely not muted I gotta say, the trumpet solo is beautifully performed. Is this the LSO?
  12. I really like it. The main theme is definitely too godfathery, but the rest is great
  13. Always sounded like quintessential Glass to me. The Canyon though always reminded me of Goldsmiths in the way it uses its rhythms.Oh yeah it definitely sounds like glass. It was written in 1988 so if anything shore was inspired by glass. I just think the chord progression and some of the instrumentation is similar to Lotr. Has anybody heard 1000 Airplanes on the Roof? One of my favorite works by glass
  14. I think he'll be like Tchaikovsky. Remembered for a few popular works and generally respected by classical circles, but ranked below more inventive composers. In film circles however I think he'll always be a superstar
  15. I hear it too. Like 30 seconds into the first movement of Itaipu sounds like something straight out of LotR:
  16. I would update the thread title I reflect that for seiji is being played. I rarely read these threads, and so there may be ppl interested who aren't reading
  17. What is evrybody's thougths on Philip Glass? I really enjoy his work, but I could understand why some might not.
  18. Have people mentioned rimarily wind band composers? John Mackey, Steve Bryant, frank ticheli, etc
  19. Thanks for the upload! Parts of it sound like a precursor to the Chairman's Waltz from Memoirs of a Geisha.
